Quick Scouting Trip & New Lure: Beefle Spin Spinnerbait & New Area Snakehead Fishing
Snakehead have turned once uninteresting waters into destinations for excellent sportfishing near to home!
On this day, I scout some new waters near home and test out a new spinnerbait made by my friend, Adam, at Care Again Fishing: the Beefle Spin.
Checkout this video for the action and tips and see below for a link to Adam's channel where he shows how to make the Beefle Spin: th-cam.com/video/Epyj9O7SRmw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=mYi4WGxhL1oAIVoe

I just lost my favorite pocket knife of 14years on a fishing pier. I know the feeling 😂
@@ericnvee the one that really hurt was when I lost my army-issued multitool over in Blackwater fishing for snakehead. That multitool had been some places with me lol
@@KambotroutFishing I would have went in and got it 🤣
I had one bend my swim bait hook and get off. Insane. I roll with the heavy duty ones now and been ok, but I still think about that fish 3 years later lmao

Were fo you go snakehead fishing at
Whats that thing in the middle of your rod? Its look like marcotting a branch. Just curious Master. Tnx
That’s a rod float. I’ve had snakehead knock my rods into the water more than once. One of these will keep it on the surface for you. That said, the straps on them wear out over time and your line will occasionally grab it those strap ends when that happens.
@@KambotroutFishing see, thanks Master
When the 🐐 drops I like simple .. Appreciate the likes on fishbrain. I will be fishing with you soon bruv 💯🗣🎯
It swam over like how ya doin Steve 😂
there's so many snakeheads now, if you go to the smaller river unoffs there all over

Any tricks for fryball fishing
I just had one break my line too. First time in 3 years of fishing for them, also first time with some new brand of line. Two breaks on that in the same day. I don’t know what was up. With the Bangkok hooker knot how often do you re-do them? I just started using that this last week and am wondering how much life it has generally
I usually retire that not at least every other trip just out of precautionary measure. What new breed did you switch to? Also, have you checked your guides for any types of Knicks or abrasions? I’ve had those damaged guides havoc on my line before.

Releasing invasive species, especially something as deadly to an ecosystem as a Snakehead? Interesting choice.
That’s so sickening lol I’ve had that happen lol
Snakeheads are not supposed to go back in the water
How can you tell if it’s a fry ball
Time on the water brother. Fry balls may give themselves away by their color (bright orange). They’ll also tend to stay on the surface after a lure hits them, whereas most minnows and menhaden schools will submerge and scatter. Still, ID-ing them gets better with time and being able to get up close to them and observe them.
Heading up on Sunday to La Plata, from south Florida. Do you have any spots that we can fish? Hate asking, but it's a long drive. Thanks
I would try Allen’s Fresh or Port Tobacco Marina. Those are two nearby launches on some decent Snakehead water
Wow

@@KambotroutFishing It's wired sitting in the kayak and they just pop up right next to you as your throwing to the shore
I hit the tributaries around the middle of the Choptank, hit it hard Saturday from sunrise to mid day, caught white perch, catfish, zero snakehead, mostly throwing a chatterbait & a real beetlespin which usually works. Fun time trying anyway!
Glad you still got on some fish, but I know what we all want to catch 😜 How was the structure and vegetation?
@@KambotroutFishing muddy banks at low tide, with grass that only is against the water during high tide, lots of minnows everywhere (banded killifish) - downed tree's along the banks looked good, maybe there are snakeheads as I assume they would be there, unless the salinity is too high from no rain- but I have yet to catch my first, which will make it more satisfying when I finally catch my first.
Remember when I dropped your pliers in the water on the Eastern shore? I now see it's clearly the fault of your pliers.😂
@@lazygamer6948 lmao
So I have a question I’ve been seeing these from the bank/wade fishing and i didn’t know if they where snakeheads or shad schooling I’ve been told they are shad by other guys but I don’t know how to tell the difference between the 2 (I’m in south eastern pa) normally fish the Delaware river and schuylkill River Also I’ve been considering investing in a kayak do you have any suggestions for a entry level kayak
It’s likely that what you’re seeing is shad/menhaden. Those schools will generally remain on the surface and swim together, mouths agape, filter feeding. It’s hard to say unless you can get closer to them.
@@KambotroutFishing thx man I appreciate the info!
Tough as nails!
💯
I thought we were supposed to keep and or destroy those fish, not let them go to reproduce
@@LaverneJamison Legal requirements on Snakehead vary by state, but in most cases, you’re allowed to release them immediately after catching them back into the waters in which you caught them. That’s the case in MD, DE, and VA (this was in VA). It’s usually only illegal to possess live snakehead or to transport live snakehead (which makes good sense in my opinion). I often harvest them, but it usually depends on whether or not I have room in the freezer or know someone who wants them. They’re the best tasting fish in freshwater and have an excellent meat to body ratio. They’re also easy to filet, so if I need meat or know someone who does, I’ll often keep them. With that said, I’ll release them if I don’t have a need to harvest. Many people take an issue with this because they’re labeled as an invasive species, and most fisheries managers do highly encourage their harvest. The peer-reviewed and published science thus far has not shown invasive impact. I’ve actually done an interview series with John Odenkirk, a VDGIF fisheries biologist, in which we review the most recent science and legal requirements on the species (link below if you’re interested). th-cam.com/video/lceYaOj8P9M/w-d-xo.html Still, invasive impact sometimes takes several decades to manifest, so if someone does harvest intensely, I understand their position. My personal opinion is that the degree of their impact will depend on the waters involved. In uniformly shallow waters with no established large predatory species (like Blackwater), they’ll likely have more of an impact (though I do think their impact is overblown and the snakehead scapegoated for our own impact). In deeper waters though, they’ll likely have less of an impact, especially when those deeper waters have large, established predatory fish. For me, they’re an admirable species, excellent parents, and incredible sportfish. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
@@KambotroutFishing Thank you. I am a retired senior citizen and just getting into this. I have not caught my first one yet . I did have one on down at Port deposit in Maryland, but I think I should have let them have it longer. Fishing at the pier at Port deposit. I am going to try it in my kayak soon, but I’m a little afraid. I do have a wooden mallet and a good net and a sharp knife. I really want to try and eat one of these. Really like your videos and thank you for getting back to me so soon.
I know space is at a premium and you select your gear as to what works best for you. For unhooking turtles and snakeheads I use the vise grip style plastic lip grippers on the lower jaw. With the other hand a pistol grip style metal fish hook remover does the trick. Hopefully snapping turtle encounters will be a rare event
Thanks Mike! By vice grip type, do you mean these? saltwateredge.com/products/the-fish-grip?variant=30275578658860¤cy=USD&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADSGP9AhR-jU7AiUvoW7kMPHfXwjX&gclid=CjwKCAjw7s20BhBFEiwABVIMrXYnp6jiT0H2ZWUbD7FCzGbLTJhRQD0g7rEU6yT2NpbnWMeBaiHuKhoCQPYQAvD_BwE
That is the type I use. In most cases the lure is shredded by their claws. But it has been a safe hook removal technique for me and the turtle
Amazing that fish is as big as it is with a jaw like that. Survivor no doubt
They are nothing if not survivors!
Beast
Thanks John! I wish I had had the camera rolling at the time. She came 3 feet out of the water with a double jump on the hook set.
Thanks again for another great video and the link to the spin beetle making. That will be a project for the off season. I was wondering if you have developed your own technique for safely unhooking a snapping turtle? If not I have a system (and all my fingers) that serves me well
Thanks Mike! No, I do not have a set system for unhooking snapping turtles. That’s still very much a figure it out as you go operation for me lol

Wow! I appreciate the shoutout, Steve! I'm really glad the lure is working for you. Catching a fish on a home made lure is fun. Watching a buddy catch on a lure you made is EVEN BETTER. Here's hoping the video shows folks that they, too, can experience this unique joy. Go watch the instructional. Get yourself a handful of supplies. Unlock your imagination. See what works! @@underdogoutdoors 😆😆 I have no idea.
So you checked the rivers when the bass are spawning and they’re spawning grounds and wonder why you don’t think the snake head is detrimental do the same test in the fall and see what happens
What do you mean? Study sampling methodology is done such that the same areas are sampled each year at the same time to track changes in community makeup.
Has it been a decent spawn season for snakehead this year?
Hard to say. I’ve only been out twice this year where I saw a good number of Fry balls. Could just be the spawn is a little bit later this year because it’s taken longer for the grass to grow in. I’m honestly not sure yet.
Love the videos! New and hooked on the snakehead fishing! Out of Northern Va.

Fish trashed, felt the pain and my jaw breakers landed 10ft from my kayak. good thing they have a float. They are good, but no match for 30+ fish. I recommend them, they work...just make sure you don't leave your thumb more than necessary...believe me, IT HURTS!
Man glad it wasn’t worse brother! I love the chaos from snakehead but it’s not without some risk for sure.
Awesome thank you for updating that so quickly!!!!!!!!
Np 👍
Now I have to figure out how to work the damn thing!! It's just a map lol
That looks like a snake head which in most states is an invasive species. Should Remove it eat it or put it in your garden or fertilizer. Do not put that back in the water.
Legal requirements on Snakehead vary by state, but in most cases, you’re allowed to release them immediately after catching them back into the waters in which you caught them.
@@KambotroutFishing so after watching the video part one. In my opinion, the statements you hear in the video are opinion and view not actual fact, therefore the video is null and void for this conversation. Where I grew up, we called them black eye or dogfish.
Congratulations man!!
Thanks brother 👊
🙌🙌🤞🤞 and we're gonna need a pin drop as well!!😂
🤐😏
Mic drop is all you’ll get 😊
Damn...inspiring.
Thanks brother. It was a grind and a struggle, but rewarding as can be 👊
The link for the shellfish map for the Chesapeake Bay doesn't work. Is there a new link possibly a noticed? This video is two years old
Looks like there was an update. I think I found it and updated the link.
@@KambotroutFishing awesome thank you. I'm going to check it out now. Have a good night.
bow fin?
Northern Snakehead. They look very similar in body profile.
@@KambotroutFishing yea
I am just a catch and release guy on a bank with no knowledge of tournament fishing. Is each tournament fish specific? Like you can only catch bass, trout, or whatever fish, but you can only keep those certain fish in each tournament.?
Hey Chris. Yes, many different tournaments for different species. Some tournaments focus on one species and others on a list of particular species. If you’re interested, download the app Fishing Chaos and scroll through the tournaments there. You can find a ton of them for many species all around the country.
@@KambotroutFishing Thank you so much for the information. I wish you the best of luck with your fishing.
