At different life stages, Snakehead are preyed upon by everything from small fish like bluegill to Eagles, Ospreys, and Blue Catfish when Snakehead mature. Many people think that Snakehead have no "natural predators", so in this video, I explain the reality of what eats Northern Snakehead.

I don’t know Montgomery County well enough to give you any really good Intel on those creeks and rivers out there. I’ve spent most of my time in that general region fishing either Triadelphia reservoir, Rocky Gorge, or Black Hills.
if you haven’t yet, I would check out a combination of the apps Fishbrain and GoPaddling. I think if you sync those two up according to the species you’re looking for, that could definitely point you in the right direction.

Thanks and definitely. Osprey eat many other species of fish, but even so, many Ospreys indicated many fish which means a solid forage base for Snakehead.
So long as there is good structure for them there (grasses, reeds, etc.), and salinity isn’t too high, should be good water.
Off topic. But I saw you comment about when snakehead males have to fight with other males ? They get beat up ? Steve can you comment on this. Always enjoy your videos,very educational
Sure thing. Much like other species, male snakehead will posture and sometimes fight for control over an area or for the opportunity to breed with a female.
Posturing sometimes negates the need for a physical fight, but when it doesn’t, you’ll see the big males circle each other on the surface, trying to get a good attack vector on the other.
Then the water erupts with violence. They’ll grab each others dorsal, anal, and caudal fins and try to rip them apart. That’s one reason you’ll often find snakehead with severely torn fins or outright missing a tail fin.
It’s rare to see, but one of the coolest things you can see on the water.

How many eggs does a snakehead lay?
Hey Kim. It really depends on the size of the Snakehead. Smaller fish will lay a few thousand but very large specimens can lay many tens of thousands.
I’ve seen many fry balls during my time on the water and they usually range from around a hundred or so fry up to many hundreds.
So while thousands of eggs may be laid, it’s usually only hundreds that hatch and then those are quickly winnowed down to perhaps dozens that make it to 4-5 inches in length (the length at which parents abandon them and they must fend for themselves).
