The Awful Angler

Derbyshire bases sea angler, travelling the country in search of fish.
🇮🇪 Donegal International Rally 2024 🇮🇪
Something a bit different from the fishing, and as some may know, my second love is motorsport. So it's no coincidence that I timed our trip around Ireland to coincide with the Donegal International Rally, one that's been on my bucket list for years.
I thought it would be a good chance to have a play around with some camera setups, and try different pieces of editing out, and make a cool little memory for years to come.

Fishing the Holderness coast after storm Darragh
มุมมอง 8K9 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
I think everyone is aware of the effect storm Darragh had on the country. I know some coasts fish well in rough seas, the Holderness doesn't seem to be one of those, I find it fishes well a couple of days after the seas have settled. So the first chance I got I headed across to one of my favourite spots to give it a go. Hope you enjoy the video, take care & tight lines. Alex
Busy night fishing in Fleetwood | Lancashire
มุมมอง 8K16 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Bit of a random one, but I used to visit Blackpool all the time with my grandparents, so I figured I'd see what the Cod fishing was all about. I ended up fishing at fleetwood as the conditions were less than ideal and the beach at low water had so many more features than my original mark. Busy session battling the conditions, so not much filming got done. But hope you enjoy the video. Take care...
Cod fishing with Dad and another PB!
มุมมอง 16Kวันที่ผ่านมา
Good fishing and better company make up for terrible weather and failing microphones. It's another session from the Humber, this time fishing with my dad, in search of his first cod of the season. Apologies for the poor Audio, I will get some new mics sorted soon. Thanks for watching, take care & tight lines! Alex
Huge Winter Flounder | River Leven | Cumbria
มุมมอง 19K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
Something a bit different this week, it's not often I target one species and know that's all you're likely to catch. But when Matty told me he knew a spot for huge winter Flounder, he had a new rod I could trial, and I was invited to a wedding in Lancashire, it seemed like all the signs were there that this was going to be a good session. Hope you enjoy, take care and tight lines! Alex
Continuing the Cod hunt on the Humber
มุมมอง 8K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
Well after the success of the previous session, who could blame me for wanting to carry on, right? So after a couple of good hours sleep in the back of the van, I was up and back at it. A short video unfortunately due to mic issues, and I won't expose you to dodgy audio. But hopefully long enough to watch with a brew! Enjoy, take care & tight lines Alex
First Cod session of 2024 and a new PB!

Fishing the Bristol Channel - I got this one wrong!
มุมมอง 5K28 วันที่ผ่านมา
I let my head overrule my heart and left Chesil and headed back towards home to a mark on the Bristol Channel. This is a mark I've wanted to fish for quite some time, but I definitely got it wrong this time around.
Big session on Chesil Beach
มุมมอง 10Kหลายเดือนก่อน
The conditions improved massively over night and it was game on to fish the big beach, Chesil beach. In an unplanned but planned coincidence I met up with Tommy Joe of @fishingcountrylifewithtommyjoe for a long session which resulted in plenty of fish, good banter, and a great day out in some winter sun. Hope you enjoy the video, take care and tight lines! Alex
Sea Fishing | Weymouth Pier | Dorset
มุมมอง 7Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Well it certainly wasn't the venue I wanted to fish. But with lengthy delays on the M5 and strong southerly winds which weren't dying off as forecast, I opted for a short comfortable session instead. Thanks for watching, take care & tight lines Alex
New Tripod - Akios Sealegs Review
มุมมอง 2.5Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Now you know I like my Akios stuff, but I am genuinely excited to take delivery of the new Sealegs, I don't feel like I do it justice in this video, so there will be another one to follow I'm sure. But its an awesome piece of kit.
Sea Fishing - Layde Bay - Bristol Channel
มุมมอง 9Kหลายเดือนก่อน
I got a 2 day pass to head off and get some fishing done, so armed with a plan, I headed to the first mark of the trip, Layde Bay on the Bristol Channel. Tackle used this session: Akios Airtorque 3 piece rod Akios Airloop R10 fixed spool reel Akios Airpower RXP 3 piece rod Akios Airloop R10 fixed spool reel
Sea Fishing - Half Moon Bay - Heysham
มุมมอง 6Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Southerly winds were making choosing a spot to fish tricky. But when Gerrys Tackle had the size of winter wear in stock, and Matty messaged to say he would lend me his Akios Airtorque to have a play with, I packed the van and headed to Lancashire. Half Moon Bay sits just in front of Haysham wall, a mark that produced my first Bull Huss, and with Bull Huss being my Autumn target, hopes were high...
Short session on Cold Knap Beach | Barry Wales
มุมมอง 7Kหลายเดือนก่อน
After the session on Font-Y-Gary, I drove around aimlessly until I realised I just didn't want to leave. So after a couple of terrible, cramped, hours sleep in the drivers seat, I decided to fish the only easy low water mark I knew. Cold Snap beach. Understandably, I was tired, so didn't film much. So it's made for a short video, but hope you enjoy. Until next time, take care & tight lines! Alex
Night session fishing low tide in South Wales
มุมมอง 7Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Well after taking a beating on witches point, I was determined to find some shelter to fish over low. Having spoke to a few folk and studied google maps, I decided to check out Font-Y-Gary. The difference was incredible, the slightest of breezes, calm seas, and a mild evening made for an enjoyable session. Hope you enjoy! Until next time, take care & tight lines. Alex

Fisherman that love road rallies too, wonder how many of us there are?😊
Plenty I'm sure!
Just two by the look of it
🤣🤣
Include me I used watch the rac years ago and welsh rallie
@chrispower8099 I grew up going to the rac. Back when you could get close to the cars with dad holding on to the back of my jacket so I didn't get too close. Must say I've stopped watching the WRC, it's all got a bit boring
Nice session, I hate that red weed!
Thanks for that mate I been suffering I got no family so Xmas is hard but thanks to you and advice I'm going to make it a good one pish myself wish u and the family and spirit dad he's a star a merry Xmas and happy new year
The new tripod looks slick, what make?
The new tripod looks slick, what make?
It's the new akios sealegs mate, lovely bit of kit. Very light but sturdy too.
@theawfulangler looked sturdy even with the weed pulling along. This is where the internet gets dangerous, instant access to tackle shops 😂
Awesome Alex buddy! hope you all have a fantastic Christmas, and all the best for 2025 buddy, love to all the family x
Great video again mate 🎣👍
Was it John Levo fishing channel. Who was levitating 🤔
Cheers for another excellent video great words about Christmas I wish you and your family all the best for 2025
Few fish to save the blank mate, shame the cod didn’t turn up but always next time. Conditions looked really good too as you said. Enjoyable watch as always. No packs of veggie sausages these days? Tight lines 🙋♂️👍
I hate it mate, thanks for checking in, tight lines❤
Thanks Alex. Tight lines ,Take care
I had a heart attack Christmas before last so my mind does struggle now this year and last if being honest
caught my first bas just over 4lb, by the old coastguard station many moons ago in similar conditions.
New subscriber VMSD FISHING.
Good video
You must be local to me pal im Ilkeston shipley. Great video pal
I am mate, not far from Ripley.
Were ya getting ya sea baits from i use too get mine from walkers of trowel but has shut down. Shame was a great tackle shop.
Blimey with that quick shot change, for a minute I thought you were tucking into that washed up lobster! 😂😂😂
🤣🤣 made me peckish mate.
Not a bad session Alex, but you've got to keep going, I want to see you get that double figure Cod!
I've not given up yet mate don't you worry!
your a good man, ah well about the fish. happy xmas.
Thanks, you too!
Was you at Withernsea, if so I thought it looked familiar. Either that or Easington. I live up the road at Hedon. 2 hours driving back home is some going for your dinner night out. Great video.
Yeah not far from Withernsea mate. 2hrs is the usual commute for me to get out fishing
was that a cooplands toffee danish, they are nice
Love my tournament match pro they are a cracking rod and will fish big baits into even some lighter rough ground. Up here in the north east Alex the water is shallow so without a sea running it doesn't push the cod in, down there the colour can stay without a sea running.
Great video mate👍
Well done buddy, that looked a cracking session and winter evening
Buy self a new tip tornado for Xmas ❤😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks for another top video . I have had a crap weekend found out on Saturday morning an old rowing mate died sudden. And this afternoon my best mates wife died after a long battle with cancer. Watching your video and other sea fishing helps me escape this shit weekend. Have a fantastic Xmas and tight lines for 2025.
Cheers m8. I was out Saturday afternoon/evening and had a very similar session, although the weather was better. Its lovely to have the sand under your feet. Happy Days
I've enjoyed fishing the river, but you're right, it's nice to be back on the beaches!!
Is the huge dead seal still there very close to where you were?
It wasn't within my eyeline mate, but I can't say i went looking for it 😅
Had a session at mappleton Saturday with the old man, managed a dab whiting n a undersized haddock all in all not bad considering I thought coast would be written off after storm, I did encounter a tonne of weed but after a move from next to rock groin I was all clear of weed, plenty of bites tho just couldn't hook half of em 😂 cod hooks on
Yeah small whiting or haddock mate a pain in the ass at times. That's when you question, do you go to smaller hooks and hook up every time or leave the big hooks on to avoid the smaller stuff?
@theawfulangler yeah my thoughts exactly, I normally go one rod big baits & other scratching around but session before last I casted out my tip light along with my end eye then got messed around with delivery on new one from eBay 😂 just my luck, big up on the contents bud tight lines & maybe cross paths on the sand sometime 😂 not lines tho 🤞😂
Carl holdstock is your local man for rod repairs mate he will have you back in action in no time
@theawfulangler it's only end eye, I can fit if eBay deliver on time 😂 cheers for the option tho bud
Nice sea pity no bigger fish.
I know, maybe a couple of days too late, or too early. Usually, the beach starts fishing well after Christmas, but I hoped it would be better after the storms.
well done for speaking out on the mental health stuff and the not so posative side about consumerism xmas , have a nice festive period brother tight lines
Just keen to remind people what it should be about, and that it's perfectly fine to say 'I'm struggling'. If one person hears that and reaches out to someone, I'm happy with that!!
Great videos old rugby players suffer we loved getting hit on the field then you retired a big miss great videos keep them up
I know that feeling. Although I put the boots back on last weekend, when I walked out of the changing room to the winds and rain of storm darragh, I did question what the F I was playing at 😂 enjoyed myself though!
The floating man is Mike Moody he was fishing in the yorkshire federation catch and release match it finished at 4. You should have entered it Alex..
Ahh I didn't know! The first time I fished the holderness, it was a Yorkshire fed match. I had been speaking to Keith and met them at Ulrome
@@theawfulangler wow i used to have a caravan at Ulrome Alex at Hornsea now ,Give us a shout if your around there next year Mate your the only youtuber i think i,v not meet up with, All the best Mate hope you and family have a great xmas yours Terry
All the very best and have a good Christmas and tight lines
Thanks mate
Nice meeting you mate you are welcome to the gear just wish I had more for you. I ended up with codling rockling and wting but i enjoyed being out first time in 4 weeks
Thanks again mate. Tough going by all accounts, but it's always better to be out fishing than at home
@theawfulangler the other's were in a match
Enjoyed that, greetings from south east Ireland.
Thanks mate. How's the fishing down your way?
I only lure fish for Bass on the Waterford coast, not caught one since mid November, but still trying, out in the morning 3 hrs before daylight, conditions are perfect but fish are getting scarce on the shore
Glad to see another vid bud! fishy session or not! I'm rather excited! going on my first fishing away day tomorrow at 3am!!! 2 days on the north wales coast from Holyhead to Conwy!!! a little nervous but really looking forward to it!
Oh now that sounds awesome mate. I think that's what I'm going to do over Christmas, the chance of some big fish, good luck!
Good to see your using decent rods now Great video
I'm still trying to find the perfect rod for me mate
Awesome rods Alex. Good choice.
They are lovely rods. I can't deny that. 1
Hi alex .. great review mate .. im defo fancying one of those tripods .. are there any discount codes at all mate ?

Must be great to go fishing with your Dad. Enjoy. Some cod that!
Proppa 'TH-camr' ( Smashing the lens with you fist 😂 ) knott-End- on sea I think you ment? I used to go to the 'Bourne Arms' pub on bowling mains back in the day.🤦♂️. All the best for Christmas mate. Take care and best wishes to little Jack and the Boss.👍🫶
