Went myself, yeah, learnt a lot of different ways of fishing. From very good and quality anglers. I'll be going again next year. I know I won't win but I'm going to learn more. Hopefully see you up there.
You will never stop learning in fishing. Just gather all the info and tips that you can from lots of anglers and eventually you will find what works for you. A confident angler catches fish and confidence in what you are doing is the key. Always have a plan as the best plans are made in advance but always be adaptable when conditions change. A five hour match can see lots of changes in weather conditions, sea conditions, water clarity and tide flow.
A totally different man fishing day 2. Well done. Don't think I could do comp. fishing, I fish mainly for the table, very different methods and motivations. Thanks for great vid. 🧔 👍
Everyone too their own I’m more on your side with fish for the table but on the other hand I take my hat off to him for fishing a comp, filming it, showing everyone either side is catching but he struggled abit and highlighting that it’s about improving learning from others and persevering that’s how anyone becomes a better angler. Top 3 TH-cam sea fishing channel without doubt, everyone worries about what everyone else is thinking, are they watching me thinking what’s he doing and this channel show to go out do what you do learn, talk to other anglers and take everything on board. Brilliant motivation
Love my fishing of all types, love your videos. My one and only trip this year was a boat trip from Tenerife. After 14 years of trying, finally got myself a Marlin, skippers agreed of an approx weight of 600lb, you can see the photo as my thumbnail. Was buzzing for a week. Plan is to do loads more UK fishing next year. Keep up the great work!
I didn't manage to land a Marlin on our lads trip to Mexico, but just being there was an experience in itself. The video is up on here. We are planning another trip for next year, hopefully it will be just as memorable!
Great vid and hand presentation! Love the way you do that! Keep em coming... I love the match fishing, the craic is great, you learn loads and a chance to win something...
Hiya Alex Looks like the joy of catching those Gar's was worth entering the competition mate, that's what its all about, chatting and learning and that came true when an old bloke helped me on Filey wall last week resulting in me catching my first ever two Flounders, p.s.I fell over on the Brigg AGAIN ffs🤕🙄
Absolutely mate. Last year, I learnt loads on day 1 and had a better day2. Same again this year. Maybe next year I'll do OK in day 1 and stand half a chance 😅
Match fishing isn't something that floats my rigs, but I do like watching match videos because, as you say, matches are great learning opportunities and good on you for giving it a go and feeding back to us what you're learning. 240 anglers hammering a mile and a half of beach for anything from 2cm up does make you pause for thought about the impact it must have.
If I can share what I learn and help a few folk improve their fishing, that would be awesome!! I know what you mean on the impact. But I don't think the impact is anywhere near the same as 20 folk fishing the same pond day in day out. But that's another topic 🫣
Used to catch Garfish in Jersey at St Catherines Breakwater and Bonne Nuit Bay. Bait was either Mackerel or Squid strip iirc. Congratulations on those two Gars (we also called them Snipe), they're lovely looking fish.
@@theawfulangler Awesome looking forward to that video? Have you got any tips for the diawa? This is going to be my first actual comp and not 100% sure what’s best? East coast can be tricky at times I’ve heard?
It's probably one of the better methods I've come across for sea fishing comps. The fish get measured by the guy next to you who signs your card and acts as a marshall. As for battering fish out. Fish go in a bucket, get measured, then returned. The next rod can't be retrieved until the fish have been returned.
@@theawfulangler dogfish was two lb and throw back rays were weighed and thrown back cos they take some killing anyway and there never has been a shortage of whiteing. Fishing has changed massively I match fished for years and never had a smoothhound 🙁 but on the other hand my pb mackerel was two lb I could go on 😊 keep on doing what you enjoy hope I see you on a beach somewhere👍
Nice one Alex, very satisfying when a plan actually works 👍
Absolutely mate! Roll on next year!
@theawfulangler nah squid fishing is my new thing, haven't caught any but i have a plan 🤣
I'm going to come over, catch one first cast and leave 😂
There's a first for everything 🤣

That's exactly the reason I go, some great people there to learn from

Well done both of you for sticking it out. Great videos keep them coming.
Thanks, will do!
Great vid Alex,fair play,what a difference a fish makes😂😂
Yeah, that one fish may give me a false sense of security for next year!

Stuck to the game plan. That game plan is looking more refined for next year. Like I say, not my usual type of fishing but it makes a nice change.
@@theawfulangler it's one of the things I love about fishing, there's always something new to learn. 🧔 👍

Love the part your dad says not giving up ❤.
Well done both 👏
I had to search that bit out in the footage. I wanted to make sure I kept that part in!
@@theawfulangler yes m8t fantastic 👏
Thanks Alex. Enjoyed 🙏👍

Well done on catching the Gar mate, really pleased for you! Take care
Thanks mate, nothing better than a plan coming together.

Thanks mate. Yeah comps are always a good laugh with the right bunch of folks.

Great vid buddy. Well done on the gar.
Thanks mate
Really interested in the rig you used for the garfish. You fished your best as allways
What I learnt was a very long, very fine snood with a floating bead at the end.
Well done Alex. One fish can change everything, boost’s moral. Nice Garfish. To my shame one species I haven’t caught yet.
Cheers Colin, they're so finicky, definitely a species to go after next year.
Fair play on getting involved in the competitions , weighing up entering a Cod comp in November . Thanks for the great content as always mate 👍🏼
Like I say mate, you can learn so much from comps and fishing with others, what have you got to lose?

Imagine if they grew to 4-5lb, the fight you would have on your hands then!
Very good vid. couldn’t wait for day 2. Grettoseesomanyanglers and the cameradery . At least something works well . Well done onthe garfish.
Thanks Anthony! I think I said it in the video. Amazes me how helpful everyone is, even though it's a competition
Nice one mate. Keep positive 👍.
Always mate 👍🏼
Well done buddy 👍🇬🇧
Cheers buddy!
Thanks Alex, well done mate.
Tight lines Take care
Thanks mate 👍🏼
well done mate good vid
Thanks Neil 👍🏼
So where did this fishing take place.. Looks great there
Day 1 was fished on Pwllheli beach and Day 2 (this video) was on Abererch beach
It would appear that there is a gap in the market for a specialist book on match rigs, glad you did better on the second day well done
Hi Gareth what a great video you were more chilled out & you seem to be enjoying more thanks
Thanks mate, definitely a much better day. Need to remember that for day 1 next year.
Tasty rod rest, any idea when they're for sale mate?
Currently on the seas making their way over here mate. Hopefully mid/end of October.
@@theawfulangler Brilliant news, thank you.
Well done on the new species Alex, also are you fishing the diawa comp?
I think I will do mate yeah I was just looking for the info on it earlier 👌🏽
@@theawfulangler Awesome looking forward to that video? Have you got any tips for the diawa? This is going to be my first actual comp and not 100% sure what’s best? East coast can be tricky at times I’ve heard?
possibly the most random question , how tall are you? some angles you look about 6'6 and other you look 5'10
😂😂 I like to keep folk guessing. I'm 6ft4.
Dead chuffed for you n your dad....may be a lighter tip. or a lighter rod..wtg.
Another thing I saw with the regular competition lads, how many different rods they had with them. Definitely need a few extra options next year
Measuring fish thats comedy and open to corruption without an electronic measure. What happens when you are battering fish out.
