    Beginning to realise the amount of preparation that can go into fishing a match. So many variables to take into account. Remind your dad that small hooks catch big fish too. Large hooks only catch large fish. Looking forward to seeing outcome. Cheers 🧔👍

      Dad was determined he was sticking out for dogs. It honestly was incredible talking to the regular comp goers and seeing the gear they had and amount of Rigs they had prepped up and things like that, really slick!

    Hi Alex you look much better on the coast than on a river very informative video enjoyed the video all the best in competition.

      The coast feels like home to me. The river feels like I'm sleeping over at a mates house 😂

    Nice voice over, plan b worked 😂 I love fishing Pwllheli, you never know what you may catch! I once had 9 species in a club match there. I never fish bigger than size 6 hooks, I once caught a 9.5lb Huss on a size 6 with a 1cm strip of squid meant for a bream ! (Unfortunately, not in a match !)

    • @theawfulangler
      @theawfulangler  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Haha that's always the case mate. But yeah I learn so much each time I fish there. It's like no where else I'd normally fish.

    If that crab was big enough would have made a nice crab salad! I've only ever caught Bream in Jersey and they have a very characteristic tapping sort of bite.
    Haven't been to Pwhelli since 1969!

    Great to be back on the coast Alex, especially Welsh waters. Back down West Wales for me next week Porthclais. Some Autumn Bass hopefully. Tight lines.

    • @theawfulangler
      @theawfulangler  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Spoiler alert. Floats feature in the comp. The trouble is they have to be anchored by a fixed lead.

    Superb. With Bream best to sit on your hands till the tip really bangs down

    • @theawfulangler
      @theawfulangler  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've definitely learnt that much. Although with the smaller ones, the tip tends to bang and then not do a deal.

    • @dm51964
      @dm51964 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@theawfulangler They used to drive me mad when I fished for them off Boscombe pier in Dorset but after being told to leave the bite till it banged round would normally result in a fish. I eventually caught the biggest that year off the pier but think people could hear me swearing at everyone I missed lol

    I wouldn't use anything smaller than 1/0, fresh lug and I wouldn't fish in Pwllheli.
    I've just moved from the racist gits after 10yrs of abuse about being English... F U Wales 😂 big bass West of Pwllheli, also decent pollock.
    Some good spots to east too but harder to work/find.
    Spider crabs are everywhere and in big numbers.
    Interestingly, I've had a lot more fish on single hook, quite long traces too. Pulley rigs work but not as many results.
    If you want some info on mega marks for real fish, let me. Know

    • @theawfulangler
      @theawfulangler  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think what I'm learning is that if there isn't much movement in the water the pulley rigs don't tend to work as well as a short single hook rig.
      I'm always on the lookout for new marks mate. So yeah ping me a message on social media if you don't mind.
