LAST DAY‼️ Insights on Alma 5 from Kerry Muhlestein You Can't Miss!
I am always intrigued at the preparation the people had to do in order to come to this "conference." They were probably coming from a distance. They had to get their affairs in order at home to come. They had to commit to being away from home for a time. They would have had to bring what they needed with them. I think of all I need to pack to go on a camping trip just for myself, let alone for all those with me. This was quite a commitment just to hear the words of your king. But for those that were willing to commit themselves, certainly were well fed spiritually.
I think that because Enos' book is so short, and encompasses his whole life its easier to see how He followed the pattern that Peter establishes as the way to be "Patakers of the Divine Nature" (2 Peter 1:1-10). Enos demonstrated throughout the chapter his example of following the Savior by developing his Faith, Virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, Godliness, Brotherly Kindness, and charity. I just love to find examples of following this Christ-like pattern. You aren't likely to find this pattern when you are reading the scriptures at break neck speed. Thank you for sharing the need to slow down, pay attention, and really study the words.
I gain spiritual strength with every episode; thank you and Brother Miller for this discussion and lesson in Charity. I often “share” your whole discussion on social media with my siblings, including a brother who has been inactive for years. I also post quotations from yourself and your guest. It is then a great way to start a discussion among us.
That is fantastic! Thank you so much! If you wouldn't mind sometimes sharing with me, via Facebook or whatever you are using, some of the quotations you share, etc., maybe we can use them to help spread the word. We could just excerpt them rather than invite the world to your family's conversation. Just a thought. In any case, I am so happy that we can be of help in any way possible. Bless you!
@ I will try to put those comments in the comments on this because it is my only social media platform. I share by text thread with siblings. I will be e diligent in commenting on this.
Such a beautiful message
I am so glad it was helpful for you!
❤❤❤
If it blessed you, I am so happy.
Moroni 6:4 - "they were numbered among the people of the church of Christ; and their names were taken, that they might be remembered and nourished by the good word of God" this automatically makes me think of the importance of ministering and seeking after the one. A common complaint of the ministering program that I hear is that people are “assigned” to visit someone. The ministering assignment is a key part of the ministering program and in caring for the one. In order to make sure each “one” is ministered to, there must be an assignment. If left to our own, I have no doubt that people would minister to those around them organically and out of love. But unintentionally, some people would get ministered to by many people, while others would never get ministered to at all. God is nothing if not a God of Order. The ministering program is of divine design, and given to us in this specific time, to make sure every soul who feels lost, is found. And with that, the ministering interviews are so crucial because they help identify ways that needs can be met in a private, loving way. Interviews are also an opportunity to “rejoice together” and to have testimonies strengthened as needs that have been already taken care of are reported as successes. As a Bishop, one of my favorite things to hear in council, is that there was a need and it has been taken care of already. There is a real peace knowing that those I care for are having their needs met.
Agency is a hard principle to respect when love is involved. But it's also Christ-like love that allows us to allow those we love, to make unrighteous decisions or decisions that we know will cause them pain. And then again, it's that same love that allows those that we love, to come back into the light. Our Father always leaves the latch unlocked in hopes that we will come home. What a great example for us to do the same.
Agreed! So well said!
Such a great discussion!❤
So glad it was helpful for you!
Great discussion! When we follow the counsel of the Lord through His anointed leaders, we can feel peace even while our children are wandering off the path. Joy amidst sorrow, like you said. We have a son who is very much not partaking of the gospel. It's so hard to watch, but I have "seen" him in the future, grasping onto the Lord. I love that Jenet said when our children don't want to hear the Word, we can BE what the Lord would be for them. And Byron said for us to do that, we have to nourish the word within ourselves. LOVE THIS
I believe with this approach we can have so much more peace and hope!
D&C 45: 45-48
These are things I know, but forget, or become discouraged by my pitiful efforts and don’t intentionally remember. THANK YOU ALL
I am the same way, and am glad for the reminders! Bless you!
So good, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Pude ver vocês e lembrar dele e aos pés da cruz seus amigos esperançosos aguardando o momento com dor e alegria por serem os amigos de Jesus Cristo. Obrigado por seus testemunhos.
Que depoimento lindo. Obrigado!
Thank you so much for your time and effort to do these. They help me to continue to have faith and find hope
I'm so glad!
Well done, thank you! I’m so grateful that I know Jesus Christ is with me in all of life’s challenges! He & Heavenly Father have individual plans for me & all of my loved ones (wandering or not). And thankfully those plans include however long & hard the road is… It’s so reassuring to me that Jesus is MY Savior & it is not my obligation to save anyone - that is HIS work & HIS glory! All I can do is to continue to ask God to help me to love others (doing all the good that He enables me to do) & stay at the Tree of Life, feasting on its joyous fruit! 😋😇‼️
It is so important to keep this in mind all the time, but so hard. Bless you!
Great words of hope. Thank you for your goodness. Sharing this good word with my sisters.
I am so glad to hear all of this!
So many reminders in this discussion....Jesus saves, not me, keep trusting, keep hoping, stay true and continue in faith in the Lord, Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ IS mighty to save! Thank you!
This is a blessing for me too! We need this hope, and it tastes so good!
Thank you. My spirit really resonated with this. I'm very musical, and today I was so upset by the way we had sung the opening hymn at half speed that I couldn't concentrate on taking the Sacrament. In frustration I told the Lord how sorry I was that I couldn't concentrate, because of this, and the Spirit whispered, "It's ok. He liked the music anyway, because He has mercy on their musical weakness, just as He will forgive you for your impatience with that weakness." It completely changed my entire outlook, and I was able to spend the rest of the passing of the Sacrament feeling a very deep gratitude for the Savior and his mercy with our weakness. We are so lucky that the Lord's tender-mercies are so bountiful towards us, unworthy creatures, that we are.
This is a great story!
Thank you so much! I needed to hear every minute of this and I am sharing. It helped me find some peace.
I am so very, very glad!
17:19 I I know I stood up in heaven and said I volunteer to not have babies so that someone else can use their agency and have them out of wedlock. Maybe we didn’t stand up and say I want that trial, I will take it. But we did stand up and say I will accept the trials that Thou gives to me for I know. . ..
I am sure that we did accept whatever trials God would send our way. We probably had no idea what we were getting into, but we were right to have faith then, and are right to have it now.
I so enjoy and glean from you and your guests. Your show that focused on the Atonement of our Savior is so wonderful that I plan to listen to it often. Thank you, Renae
I am so glad it was helpful for you!
I loved this episode! It brought back so many memories for me. I love that you continued our tradition of toilet papering State St. We always did the Johnson’s because they had the best trees. I also remember Bishop Miller. You might remember my parents, the Samuelsons.
Ah yes! How are you? It is great to hear from you. I am glad we could bring back fond memories! --Kerry
We are good. Living in Utah Co the past few decades. I do have one child living up in Sandy in my old stomping grounds. I do enjoy watching your podcast. My mom would have loved it!!
Thank you so much. I love and enjoy both of you, your insights and for enhancing my knowledge and faith in the scriptures and of course the boundless mercy and charity of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Thank you again. I look forward to your podcast.🙂❤️🙏🙏👍
I am so glad this is a good experience for you. I love how many things we can pull from these scriptures!
Thank you for that very warm comment! This is the best part, and the reason why I love discussing the scriptures in class or in a podcast, to make connections with people like you. Thank you!
Thanksgiving joke - Do you know what kind of music pilgrims listened to? Plymouth Rock….
I am using that!
I didn’t know where else to ask this. Do you have any suggestions for study helps for next year’s CFM?
I don't know what study helps are out there yet, but I will look into it and get back with you.
I’m always in awe of God’s personal touch in each of our lives. The chapters of Ether are astounding in both faith in Jesus Christ. and then the complete opposite. How am I (we) doing? That’s what these chapters are certainly teaching us as humankind. Be STILL and KNOW that I AM GOD. ❤
There are so many powerful introspective questions that can arise from this reading!
This so insightful thank you. In your comment it is through the Holy Ghost. I would say it is through Christ as we listen to the Holy Ghost but when we act on those promptings that is acting as Christ into the second commandment as we gather others not just ourselves, then we are exalted by our actions and repentance only upon the cleansing blood of Christ we are inheritors of what the Father has for us. Individual then family affairs. Then the Holy Ghost witnesses to Christ of our preparedness and works and repentance.
This is a lot of great stuff to think about. Thank you!
So many blessings for us to tune into this podcast ....thank you so much... Happy Thanksgiving We love you too!
Bless you and Happy Thanksgiving!
you too!!!!
While I like many of the perspectives given in this episode, I am profoundly surprised and frankly disappointed in your both reinforcing the false reading so many have of Ether 12:27. It speaks solely about weakness, not weaknesses, and says nothing about turning weaknesses into strengths. It's the weakness of the human, mortal condition that's been given us. If we recognize that and humble ourselves as the scripture says, then that grace is available and sufficient to help us overcome the inherent weakness borne of mortality. Fallen beings in a fallen world, yet too often we develop pride and fail to see that we have, then fail to depend on the Lord, and we deny ourselves the blessings of his grace. Paul talks about this when he realized that he needed to accept the fact of his human weakness and call upon the Lord, wisely concluding that when he is weak, then he is strong.
You are raising an important point that has been raised and talked about and emphasized, appropriately so, for a long time now. While I agree with that point and think it is important, I think it has taken things so far that we don't read the last part of that verse, which is also important. I guess I didn't explain it as well in the episode as I intended to. At the end of the verse it speaks of God making weak things (note the plural) strong for us. So, it may not say it turns weaknesses into strengths, but it does say that weak things will become strong. This means that our weakness can turn us to God, and then weak things, many weak things, even all weak things, can become strengths. We should recognize the power of our weakness bringing us to God, and then realize that in doing so the weakness and many/all weak things can be made strengths, and we should not let one of those eclipse the other. We must do the one and not leave the other undone. I just don't know how to take the last part of the verse seriously and without emphasizing that last aspect along with the first, which has not been the trend lately. That was what I was trying to say but didn't say it well, apparently. Sorry for not communicating better.
Thanks for your hard work in putting these videos together week after week.
It has been such a joy to do them! If they are helpful for you, they are worth it!
Back at'cha! 😊
🎶🎉🎶Happy Thanksgiving 🕊😇🕊
Happy Thanksgiving to you too!
We are grateful for YOU…and your guests. Happy Thanksgiving.
Thank you! That is so kind of you to say.
Happy Thanksgiving to you also
I am so very thankful for you!
First, thank you for your willingness to share this podcast. I enjoy listening every week. Thank you for always reminding your listeners to take time to study the scriptures on their own. For a time I used Come, Follow Me podcasts to take the place of my scripture study and hearing your reminder helped me do more study and pondering of the scriptures on my own. Thank you for that! Also, thank you for including President Nelson’s challenge for us to study the Atonement of Christ. As I read Ether 13 today I thought about Christ’s Atonement and I loved the imagery that is shared in verses 10-11. Those who dwell in the New Jerusalem will have their garments made white through the blood of the Lamb. Those in the Old will be washed through the blood of the Lamb. So grateful that our Father in Heaven is so merciful and loving that through the Atonement of Christ we can be made white and completely clean to be able to dwell with God in these beautiful cities of peace. What are your thoughts on the differences between the two verses…those in the New Jerusalem will have GARMENTS WASHED WHITE through the blood of the Lamb and those in the old, will be WASHED through the blood of the Lamb? Do you think there is a purpose for the different wording? Just thought it was interesting that it was different. Thanks
I am so glad to hear of the scriptural experience you are having. Bless you! I am not sure if we should make something of the difference, or if it is just two different ways of saying the same thing. I lean towards the latter -- meaning it may be that in one area they have one phrase that is the equivalent of a similar but slightly different phrase from a different place -- but I really don't know. It deserves some more thought and study. Thanks for bringing this up.
Thank you both for teaching me more about some of my favorite scriptures.
I am so glad it helped you in that way. You could consider going to TSAR.website, where you will find me talking even more about the sequence of faith Moroni uses.
Thank you for all the sharing and hopeful message of the Lord’s saving grace with us as we have faith in Him to ever help us, as we turn to Him. It was great to hear about your long time friendship. It was inspiring to hear about the wonderful brother you taught on your mission in Germany, Brother Miller, that is a very special story. I loved the tender mercy of the Lord to him when he went back to the business that wanted to buy all his paintings. Also the tender mercy to you when you saw him preparing to go to the temple to do temple work for his kindred dead. It will be special to meet with him in the spirit world. Thank you and bless you both.
That was an edifying story, wasn't it?
@ Yes, it stood out because I studied Elder Gong’s talk about “what does holiness to the Lord look like in everyday life?” That man’s story would have fitted well into Elder Gong’s talk. Stories of faith in Christ as taught in Ether 12 are all around us, “we have a front row seat” as members of the Lord’s church.
@@annsilva1506 That is well said!
Yes that makes sense!! Thank you ❤😊
I hope we can all be careful of this!
Thank you ❤😊
Glad it was helpful for you.
Wish it had gone on for another hour. You are both great and such a testimony and experience in the gospel ❤
I am so glad it was a helpful experience for you. That is what we hope for!
I loved this episode! As you two talked it reminded me of my son and his friends remembering High School and the times they had. I've been listening to this podcast for about 2 years now and I was so excited to see that you were coming to Santa Barbara. Your lecture was so very interesting, and I enjoyed it very much. Hopefully you also enjoyed your time here in this little bit of paradise!
We really had an absolutely wonderful time! I am trying to figure out how to make a visit to Santa Barbara an annual thing.
I love that you include help with President Nelson's invitation to study the Atonement of Jesus Christ in ever week. I look for it each week in these discussions. I also got a chuckle with the toilet papering adventure.
Those two are not necessarily connected! I am really enjoying making those connections. For the last two episodes of the year I felt there was such a strong and obvious discussion of Christ's atoning sacrifice that I didn't need to point it out, but I probably should have.
As I read these chapters (and other chapters) and listen to your podcast, my mind keeps recalling the scripture phrase "... HIs hand is stretched out still." How patient and merciful is our God!
So true!
Amen! Thanks for the comment!
It’s always refreshing to see 2 LDS people get together and love not only the scriptures but eachother. We don’t see connections that are that loving and respectful enough these days.
Anyone who has such connections is truly blessed. I am so grateful to have them!
When you seek support from someone else thats in a low place, its terribly hard to be lifted. When you seek guidance and support from God, you are sure to be raised up. I'm grateful that Jacob touched on this subject. We need to do better and be better. I never want to be the reason someone cries out to the Lord in pain and sorrow.
I agree! It is so sad when someone is crying out! Somehow we will all be there, but I hope to do all I can to make it so they don't, and I hope Christ heals everyone we ever hurt unintentionally (and intentionally too).
This was a great discussion. The idea of our growth and progress continuing for the duration of our mortal life was a great reminder that there is much for me to strive for…and I should be patient with myself and others as we strive to become more charitable…like our Savior. Also loved some of the stories you shared that help us know you both better…podcasters are real too Thank you.
I am so glad it was helpful! We do need to extend patience and charity to ourselves as well.
I really needed this . Thank you.
I am so glad it was helpful. Bless you!
Thank you both for your experiences and your encouragement of faith and sharing our light. I took your prompt and am pleased to report an encouraging contact with my first married granddaughter this night🤩
That is so fantastic! Thank you for sharing!
I loved the comparison between secret combinations and sacred connections...great guage to measure one's own why...also who do we give the platform to have influenceon our thoughts which determine behaviour, be interesting excercise if I measured this by time and influence....so grateful for scriptures and apostles, prophets today...coz for me...this helps me to hear God and Jesus Christ better through the Holy Spirit...thanks Kerry and Lamar, yous rock!❤🎉
I am so happy to hear everything you said. Such great stuff. Thanks for sharing!
Sonia you rock! Thanks for your very kind comment and for joining us!
Alma 40:23 - The soul shall be restored to the body, and the body to the soul; yea, and every limb and joint shall be restored to its body; yea, even a hair of the head shall not be lost; but all things shall be restored to their proper and perfect frame. What an amazing gift the Resurrection is. Even more so than just living again, we will be glorified. All this will happen because He loved us first. Thank you for your Easter messages.
You are right, what an amazing gift!!!!
