I am awed that I am a literal daughter of God. I believe it because I feel it, but I cannot fathom that even with his myriads of children who inhabit worlds without number for thousands of years, he knows me. Also, I am in awe of his great mercy and justice made possible through the atoning sacrifice which puts me in awe and deep gratitude for his son Jesus Christ.

I agree with you on all of that. But perhaps that first thing you mention, who we really are because of who are parents really are, is the most awe inspiring! Amazing! Awe-some!

I haven't finished listening to this episode yet, but Stephen Taeger mentioned the power of The Book of Mormon early in the episode. I will share an amazing experience our family recently had. My daughter who is now 19 years old stopped going to church 2-3 years ago. About 2 months ago she decided to read The Book of Mormon. She read it in 25 days and it COMPLETELY CHANGED her life. She is one who has struggled to recognize the Holy Ghost, but while reading The Book of Mormon she experienced so many undeniable blessings and positive changes in her life. It was the witness from God that she needed. She is now going to church weekly, performing baptisms for the dead weekly in the temple, and she recently decided to start taking temple prep classes so that she can receive her temple endowment. My wife and I have always known The Book of Mormon to be the word of God, but we were amazed by the power of the book. Following my daughter's example, my wife and I both recently finished reading The Book of Mormon in 30 days. It was a powerful and awesome experience for us! Thanks for doing these podcasts. They are inspiring!

I am in awe of the love of the Father and the Son for every individual and how everything they do is for our welfare. And even when we turn our backs on them and go after gods in our likeness and image, they patiently wait for us and welcome us back with open, loving arms. We may forget them, but they will never forget us. I am in awe that we have a Savior who ministered to the one and that we have leaders of the Church who do the same. I am in awe of prophets and apostles who testify of Christ and this work and are willing to wear out their lives teaching, testifying, ministering, and bearing witness of our Redeemer and his marvelous plan of mercy. Satan and the world want to destroy us, while this Gospel lifts and heals us.

Great episode. What a fun idea to share ways we experience awe of God’s plan! I just got back from Palmyra and am still experiencing awe at the coming forth of the Book of Mormon- how it was written, how it was preserved, how it was translated by an uneducated young man, how it was printed and how it is spreading through the world. It is an absolute miracle and manifestation of God’s love for us!

I have recently hit a season in my life where I am able to attend the temple weekly. I have been feeling that I need to add something -- and I think this conversation named it for me. I have been taking the temple and the ordinances performed there as ordinary. But they're actually AWEsome! I am excited to seek to make the temple become AWEsome in my life again!

Bro. Taeger asked for us to tell what things in the gospel bring us awe. To me, it’s temple and family history work. The principle of offering salvation to everyone who ever lived on earth makes me feel awe. I feel it every time I’m engaged in temple work, family history, indexing. This all grounds me when false ideas swirl around me.

I have a beautiful drive to work. Every day I get the amazing opportunity to see the majesty of mountains with either a bright, beautiful clear blue sky in the backdrop or I see white fluffy clouds hover either in the foreground or over the peaks. Sometimes, I witness the awe of storm clouds or fog whisping just below the mountain peak. I am always fascinated as the sun shines on the mountains, while the clouds cast a shadow. I find so many analogies with my daily views as I commute to work. When I get home, I see the sun setting behind the mountains and cast the most beautiful rays of color.
Daily I am in awe and often tell others that I never tire of seeing the wonders of heaven.

I am a podcast listener, (I have listened to this one twice) but have come to the brink of the yawning chasm of TH-cam because Kerry asked us to.
As I have pondered all the “awes” that I have, one of the biggest is the awe I have that I, a bumbling daily sinner, have been so undeservedly blessed by God. I mean, He long ago should have splattered me like a bug on a windshield, but yet here I am, being blessed like crazy. I don’t understand it but I am in great grateful awe! I have so many blessings.

I'm constantly in awe of the Plan of Salvation. I'm a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, so the Plan is part of my consciousness and can (and admittedly has at times) become routine. But the longer I live, and the more I learn and understand the Plan of Salvation, the more in awe I am of it and our Heavenly Father and His Son who makes the Plan work.

I am in awe of the sheer intelligence of God. I have become aware of how much skill God has in things like language and timing and more. How brilliant he is in the way he created us and this world. How brilliant he is in the words used in the scriptures. How brilliant he is in the timing of bringing his children together when they need it most or the resources or knowledge that he provides for us in moments that seem random to us until we can look back on it and see what he was doing. Our God is absolutely brilliant. And he loves us so much! I can't even fathom it. I am in awe of my God.

The beautiful World around me always brings me a sense of awe. Also, I have lost a son. I know the seriousness, and pain involved. For Jesus to sacrifice his life willingly, and for Heavenly Father to willingly allow his Beloved Son to suffer and die for me is beyond my comprehension. This brings more than even awe to me. When I consider the immense scope of this sacrifice for us I am beyond “awe.” I cannot express my appreciation, awe, wonder, and sense of being valued adequately…

So many things I am in awe of but the one I will mention is, I am so in awe at how God is in and knows every detail of our life. It seems that every time I have a life changing event happen I can think back at the things I was previously prompted to do or things the spirit spoke to me to prepare me for what was to come. I haven’t known what was to come, but when it did come I recognized God had been preparing me for it and to me that is awesome!

Seeing the light that comes in knowing you have worth because you are a child of God. Gaining confidence that you can change because of repentance and the strength of accepting Christ's atonement. The love and peace that you feel when forgiven is impossible to describe. Our Father and His Son are amazing. ❤

Yes, i especially love hearing new temples announced for Asia. I live in South Korea and for a time lived in the southern part of the country. Once a month, the stake would rent a charter bus and we'd leave Friday night after midnight and arrive early Sat morning at the temple and spend the morning there. When President Nelson announced a temple for Busan we all cried for joy. I still get choked up thinking about it.

Loved this episode! At education week this year, Marcus L Smith of KBYU radio led a class entitled “Sacred Wonder: The Role of Awe in Religious Life”. We learned that our tendency is to put all things into a “normal”category. We normalize the givens. We can experience a deep sense of awe when we change our perspective and view those given as gifts. It is not a peach anymore. It is a beautiful, wonderful gift! It is not the plan of salvation anymore. It is a beautiful, wonderful gift of which I am in awe. Seeing things with a sense of awe is strengthening my relationship with Heavenly Father.

I can't remember who said it, but a few years ago there was a talk on prayer. He said something to the effect that when you pray God's eyes are turned toward you and he is looking at you. It just amazes me that with all that is created and all the crazy in the world around me, God and I can have a personal moment together.

I am in constant awe at how often my prayers are answered! Sometimes I do not feel worthy of how immediate or how perfect the answers are! I am aghast. This strengthens my faith that though some pleadings may seem unanswered, I know they will be. And because those prayers are not always answered in the way I thought they would or should, experience taught me the Lord really knows what I need. Now I have heard lessons teach these concepts and nodded along. But until I witnessed these wonders again and again, I don’t know how deeply I believed. And I have had the same experiences with miracles big and small. I would love to expound on one or two, but I will on another platform. Concerning why we feel such pain when loved ones stray: In addition to my overwhelming sorrow at what my faithless loved ones are throwing away, my greatest sorrow is how there is an automatic distance between us. So much of my deepest, highest, widest spiritual moments I cannot really share with them. And I am quite close to those of my children who have fallen away. We can laugh, and visit, and work, and enjoy our time together, but there is a closeness, a oneness, that is just not possible. Even in the same room, we are in different kingdoms, as it were. I don't have to ask and angst over what I did wrong. Frankly, I know. But I have the miracle of repentance for that. To paraphrase: pain is the price we pay when those we love are distant from us, regardless of what that distance looks like.
Concerning awe: beauty: nature, music, literature, paintings, sculptures, truth, babies

What gives me awe and how it changes me: The more I read the scriptures, the more I see the difference between me and God, most notably, His depth of love for us (and me). This depth of love means that He doesn’t give up on us, He wants to be with us. God has blessed me with gifts and blessings that I didn’t earn and that I can’t give myself. I recognize that I don’t deserve His love, rather He gives it to me.
This awe carries into my life as I find myself judging others. When I’m close to the Spirit, it helps me remember all that God has done for me, that I don’t deserve, and then it’s brought to my mind, this person does need to deserve your love, but God would love them, and has asked you to love them. I’m thankful for a loving God that doesn’t give up on me. I pray that I don’t give up on others.

When I talk to my members and my youth, I like to share with them 2 things. 1. You will always find what you are looking for.. so make what you are searching for, worthwhile. 2. The most important spiritual experience you will ever have, is the one you will have tomorrow.
I think it is vitally important, not to rely only on experiences from the past to feed your testimony, but to continually refresh your well of experiences. To keep looking for those moments that will sustain you.. because they are there if you look for them.

I think you are so right. At the same time, I think it is very important to remember the experiences you have had. There are times when the Spirit doesn't come, when you don't feel it, and you will need to remember past experiences in order to keep pressing forward to your so important future experiences.
This is a very important conversation. Thanks for this!

@TheScripturesAreReal Temple work comes to mind. If we can get our youth and our members to the temple, they can look to the past, learning about their ancestors, learning of their trials and experiences.. they will see the similarities in their own lives. And doing their ordinances gives them opportunities to be the bridge from the past while strengthening their own future.

That is indeed where we hit the text we will spend the rest of our time talking about. Yet I think the discussion of the power of the Book of Mormon narrative is important for setting this up, and I know that has really struck a chord and been helpful for some people. Likewise, there are a number of other things about the Book of Mormon we discuss before this that actually make what we talk about make more sense. I am grateful that you help me relook at this issue. I hope we can both find a balance. Thanks!

Sorrow... of course in the way you identified spread out in a web of deception...
There are church insiders who are so messed up and delusional, pretending to have clear vision and judgment...
The faithful surounding thier family are also lost with no possible grip at the time of critical need...
its all sad, a great sad sorrow... the fix is having the same motive as the Lord!! Be in awe of His example!!! At the moment of inspirations.

Yes, having godly, or Christlike, motives is the key. And it is awe-inspiring that He helps us have those motives.

Have either of you read "Awe: The New Science of Everyday Wonder and How It Can Transform Your Life" by Dacher Keltner?? I am awed by learning about awe! I would LOVE to hear your thoughts on this book and if you want an amazing experience read this book in conjunction with One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp. Together, these ideas and lenses have changed my life and understanding of the gospel. The thing that I loved most about the Awe book was that even though the author is not religious, I could CLEARLY see the hand of God in all the science and understanding of awe. He breaks it down into 8 categories and I would just add one last chapter that explains how these 8 categories are God's way of trying to reach ALL of his children, ALL the time, in EVERY way possible as Michael S Wilcox says.
Please share your thoughts on this book and if you see awe as a way God is trying to get our attention.
Thanks to both of your for all the work you do and share publicly.
