  • Email at thescripturesarereal@gmail.com to learn about our amazing Church History Tour in October.
    In this episode Kerry and Lori Denning explore the few verses of King Anti-Nephi-Lehi's speech and what we can learn from it. Neither was expecting that there was so much richness in that speech, but it became such a rich discussion that they didn't move on to other material. They discussed the transformation that took place for that group of people, and what it might look like for us. They also delve into the notion of turning weapons of war into weapons of peace.
    We are grateful for our sponsors, and for our producer, BJ Muhlestein, and for Rich Nicholls, who composed and plays the music for the podcast.

    It was lovely to hear Sister Denning cover this material twice, both here and on Follow Him. Thank you so much! I love your out-loud nerdiness and exuberance about everything, especially the scriptures.

      Yes, that was a bit of a surprise to hear her tell the same stories there, but both ended up having some unique and powerful content that she conveyed. We sure love all she brings!

    When Jesus Christ died and shed His blood for us is the greatest covenant, He ushered in Gods grace for all those who believe in the biblical Jesus. Without His grace we have nothing, and it is all because of His will that works through us. We can do nothing without Him. Jesus is significant.

    Thank you for doing these weekly podcasts. I really enjoy them. I especially enjoy the ones like this week's where there is a lot of personal application. We are reading the CFM verses each week so we don't need a recap of what we are reading. You do a great job in these podcasts of not just recapping, but rather making the scriptures real through personal application. Thanks again.

      That has also been my take on it, and this is the first time I've heard anyone else see it the same way. But like another commenter, I feel like it's the one that makes the most sense in the cultural context. Thank you for bringing it up!

    Kerry Muhlestein indicated the meaning of Anti-Nephi-Lehis may be "not-Nephi" Lehites. In other words, those not descendants of Nephi but still descendants of Lehi. That is an interesting interpretation. However, Alma 17:19 seems to indicate that those in the land of Ishmael where Ammon was preaching are descendants of the sons of Ishmael who became "Lamanites." So it would seem that they are not descendants of Lehi at all but of Ishmael. Or did I misunderstand what was said?

    • @rochelleholmquist9259
      @rochelleholmquist9259 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This may be way off but maybe this could help. I understand that the sons of Ishmael were possibly married to Lehi's daughters and the sons of Lehi married the daughters of Ishmael except for Zorom. So most of their children would be descendants of both Ishmael and Lehi.

    • @bafalaska492
      @bafalaska492 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Although among modern Jews, a determination of Jewishness for children comes through the mother, Lehi, Ishmael, and their descendants lived in a patriarchal society so the dominant lineage identification would be through the patriarch. This is indicated by naming their geographic location as the Land of Ishmael and that they were descendants of the sons of Ishmael. Of course, children are the descendants of both their parents. But who the sons of Ishmael married is purely speculative.

    • @TheScripturesAreReal
      @TheScripturesAreReal  หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is where it started, in the land of Ishmael, but the later story is many, many more people than that, and they all considered themselves Lamanites, regardless of whom they descended from.
