Steve Harper, one of the greatest experts ever on the Doctrine and Covenants, helps Kerry explore Section 109, the Kirtland Temple dedicatory prayer. Last conference President Nelson asked us to study section 109, so in this episode we share with you the context, and show how it teaches again and again the power of covenants and how God wants to sanctify and change us. This episode is invigorating and powerful.

Thank you for the enlightening further of my testimony of the temple. Section 109 makes me feel more faithful and blessed in serving in the temple as an Ordinance worker every Saturday, v. 13 “And that all people who shall enter upon the threshold of the Lord’s house may feel thy power, and feel constrained to acknowledge that thou hast sanctified it, and that it is thy house, a place of thy holiness.” Love this dedicatory prayer very much.💗💗💗🙏🙏🙏
We are SO THANKFUL for your efforts in helping us understand the covenant relationship, blessings, and responsibilities.
When I teach the youth, I abbreviate it by saying when we enter into covenant with the Lord, we are given
A Name
A Place
A Job
The name is the Lord's name. We are clothed in Christ.
The place is in the kingdom of God on earth and forever. You BELONG.
The job (responsibility) is to help everyone know they belong too!
I also have come to see in the temple how the Lord helps us even know WHAT to pray for. He helps us focus our minds on the most important things.

I’m afraid I have been remiss in studying the D&C. I read but don’t really understand it, yet I don’t think I ever really ASKED for knowledge.But I am repenting and am applying myself to ask for help. I look forward to studying it in 2025. Thanks for your input on sections 109 and 95. I appreciate your work in learning and seeking out for more light and knowledge, and then sharing it with others (me included).😊

There is some power for every person and every situation to draw from Section 109.
Several of us met weekly to study this, we went verse by verse of D&C 109, we finished a week ago. So good and we had so much insight.

What great blessings come from following the commandments of God. Just think of all the sacrifice that entailed for the early saints to get to Kirtland. But as they uprooted their lives and joined together in unity, it allowed the Lord to endow them with power. This is a great section that helps us know what we can look forward to as we unify ourselves with God and become His covenant people. Thank you for this conversation.

What came to mind as you invited sharing, is what an Infinite cost was paid by our Heavenly Parents and Jesus Christ, and it gives Their great authenticity as we gather to Them in the Temple to make covenants and try to honour and keep our covenants, made with God through Jesus Christ. Then we too can authentically rejoice in Their great gift of Priesthood Keys.

Thanks so much for this. Got me started on my own deep dive. Somehow, even though I was reading and listening for these types of challenges and I love this talk and read and listened to it, I missed it. Heard a few people refer to it and didn't make it a priority, That's ok. We can't do all the things and hopefully the spirit helps us figure out what is most important for us. This episode has now increased my desire to study the talk, 109, and 88 together

I have realized recently that the Lord gives us opportunities and invitations in our daily lives to utilize the Holy Ghost and become more Holy. It’s up to us to accept the invitations and opportunities.

TY for another wonderful conversation with you and Dr. Harper. I've been studying Section 109 each week as I have moments within my service in the Red Cliffs Temple. It's such a powerful dedicatory prayer. You referred to a letter that Joseph had shared with the Saints in Kirtland and also the Missouri Saints regarding Section 84. Where can I find that. And, where would I find the source of who was with Joseph the day he sought inspiration from the Lord to know how to dedicate the Kirtland Temple. I tried getting an answer using both of my AI programs, one of which is usually pretty good, but I got a response that it was Joseph alone who sought inspiration around the dedicatory role and "couldn't confirm" that anyone else was present when he did so.
I will ask Steve, but I am pretty sure it is all on the Joseph Smith Papers website.
I believe that the way one obtains the “stuff” is set forth in the intercessory prayer when Jesus prays that we may, in him, be one with the Father as the Son is one with the Father. In my opinion, that is brought about by merging with the Godhead, not in body, not in spirit, but in Intelligence.
I think also that light, or intelligence, will start to flow to us without compulsory means as we become truly virtuous, or godly, beings.
Our temporal existence is a laboratory of the illusion of scarcity. What will you do?
This is so important. God makes it clear, this is not a zero sum game. The temple makes it clear that there is more available to us than we can conceive of!

@@cristiantorres2891 My logo is from a scarab beetle found on the back of the head of a golden mummy excavated at my site, and of the pyramid at my site. Both of them are symbols of rebirth. Since we are seeking rebirth and are being aided by having the scriptures came to life for us, they seemed to be symbols that held potent meaning for what we do.
