I'm grateful God is sanctifying me through the blood of Jesus Christ. I feel myself changing as I have taken unprecedented measures to attend the Temple Daily these last 2 weeks in preparation for conference. Love this from two sharp and knowledgeable scholars. I appreciate the thread back to section 88. The Doctrine and Covenants is so temple focused. I loved the reminder from Brother Harper that this is about exaltation of families. I am so blessed by temple ordinances and covenants. I had read D&C section 109 before our Prophet Russell M Nelson has challenged us to study it. When i looked at it and found that for a different set of study I highlighted verse 10-12, and verse 23. I remembered referred to this section in another sets of studies, but came to realize it was a preparation to study it more and more through his request for all to study and ponder. I enjoyed so much sharing your video and your spiritual insights-rephrasing the revelation of our loving Prophet. Now, you have given me another opportunity to study deep in the section. What a blessing to have a living and amazing Prophet, and his love and example for the Lord. A prophet who strongly believes and set examples of all great health belongs to God, amen. A hundred years of age in these later-days is an endurance of love with however whatever the world would throw at you, unique, valued, and a miracle for those who believed he is a prophet of God. Also, a blessing to have a temple built in our area and was merely dedicated by beloved Elder Dieter F. Uchdtorf of The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in Jesus name, amen.

I’m afraid I have been remiss in studying the D&C. I read but don’t really understand it, yet I don’t think I ever really ASKED for knowledge.But I am repenting and am applying myself to ask for help. I look forward to studying it in 2025. @ the scriptures are real, You claim to believe the DnC? Then read the parable of the redemption of Zion in section 101. NOW... recognize that the tower in section 101 that was NEVER COMPLETED was the NAUVOO TEMPLE. NO COMPLETED TEMPLE... NO MELCHEZIDEC PRIESTHOOD! NO KEYS! NO TEMPLE ORDINANCES! Go ahead, keep straining at gnats and swallowing camels. Jesus Christ REJECTED the church WITH IT'S DEAD in 1844. Section 101 describes the REDEMTION of Zion, section 124 brings it all into focus. THE REAL QUESTION is WHY someone like yourself who studies the DnC HASN'T SEEN THIS.
I've long appreciated the relation between sections 88 and 109. Thanks for the additional insights and knowledge. It is marvelous to consider that God's light, glory, knowledge, truth, intelligence, and dominion are infinite and that He longs to share the "infinity of fullness" with us. Thank you, Dr. Harper for pointing out that that prayer begins with an acknowledgement that God keeps covenant. That strengthens my faith in Him. My favorite verse may be 21 which holds the promise of forgiveness as we repent and reverence the temple.
I'm so grateful for D&C 109. It deserves much study. Temple blessings, covenants and promises are everywhere. It is much needed in this time of so much divisiveness and worry. Thank you for your insights.
As I don’t breeze through what I find hard, even impossible, to understand, I find that Heavenly Father grants me tiny glimpses, tiny delicious tastes of something just beyond me..and as I keep coming back and try, try,try, He leads me along…here a LITTLE and there a LITTLE. And, sometimes He rewards me with help such as the beautiful teachings in this video today. A true feast of gospel learning!

Thank you for your work in preparing for this podcast to help and encourage all of us to follow the admonition of President Nelson to “digest” section 109 with the help of the Holy Spirit so that we can move better on the path to exhalation.
We are SO THANKFUL for your efforts in helping us understand the covenant relationship, blessings, and responsibilities. When I teach the youth, I abbreviate it by saying when we enter into covenant with the Lord, we are given A Name A Place A Job The name is the Lord's name. We are clothed in Christ. The place is in the kingdom of God on earth and forever. You BELONG. The job (responsibility) is to help everyone know they belong too! I also have come to see in the temple how the Lord helps us even know WHAT to pray for. He helps us focus our minds on the most important things.
What I love most about this discussion are: 1. The reminder that, although we're not entitled to blessings nor the specific manner in which we receive them, we should expect them. And ask to receive them. 2. Even though the Saints were slow to start, they repented and were still able to receive marvelous blessings. It's the same for me and others.

It is so fulfilling for all of us to do this together. I feel such a bond with others are we find these ways to study what the Prophet has asked us to study, together!
God has put in my path, through the last few months, people and circumstances that hace prepared me and brought me to the spiritual place where for the first time in my 60 years that I've had/have the desire, more importantly, the determination to prepae for Conference with fasting and prayer and things I need the Lord's help with. One of my questios/requests to Father in Heaven is to help me finally let go of a soul crushing pain that I've carried for 30 years!! God can do all things and I know He will bless me in the coming days/weeks/years to heal from this pain completely and gain a new acceptance of myself.l that I've had because of the circumstances that caused this pain. God is so wonderful!!!

I read section 109 on my own today. Feel that this prayer was reserved for us today. Interesting to me was that the Kirkland Temple did not have to be rededicated when The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints purchased it earlier this year. We will need the blessings asked for in this prayer now and in coming days in specific ways as there is an escalation of events. It feels personal to me.
I agree! It feels very, very personal. These blessings are for us and our temple attendance today as much as at any time. President Nelson's talk was mostly about section 110, but he wanted us to read section 109, which is instructive also. I am thankful for how both of you explained it by adding the history of the steps of the Saints in fulfilling the promise to build the Kirkland Temple. I was so touched by the message of the Salvation and Exaltation and what they mean. It has touched me to think when I go to the temple to worship and to humbly pray for the blessing of mercy from my Heavenly Father and the Savior to receive the blessings promised of sanctification, and purification by the Holy Spirit wow! The power of renewing my baptism, and temple covenants and the power of that in my life. Thank you both for enlightening me. Brethren it was like the Holy Ghost lead me to see this video. My eyes are opening wider in the necessity of the restoration of Christ’s gospel on the earth. I am a convert and have to overcome addictions. I’m gaining a better understanding that I can’t be perfect while I’m in mortality. I have had many difficulties in keeping the word of wisdom due to these addictions and haven’t attended the temple for many years. It is my desire to return to the temple and receive the blessings from doing so. I feel more hopeful now as I listen to what you are both bringing to my attention. Having faith, I know somehow in someway I will accomplish retuning to the temple with the help and blessings from our Father in Heaven with the knowledge that He understands and knows who I am. Having faith and a greater understanding of the power of the blessings we can receive as individuals from our Heavenly Father is so important and motivating. Thank you.

Thank you brethren for this discussion! The point was made that worthiness (as a synonym for wholeness or, completeness) is granted us as a result of consistently demonstrating to ourselves and to our Father what we value. Certainly the world offers mounds of opportunities to value "that which moth doth corrupt". However, the Temple reminds us to constantly value what the Lord blesses us with ("I hold them sacred"). It seems that the Lord's servants are among us to accomplish two fundamental goals: (1) continually remind us of our worth as chidren of Loving Eternal Truth (2) simultaneously point us to the potential of our everlasting. We are His glory. That is the path of realization that Christ sets us on. Thanks for the opportunity to look more closely at the mark!

I wish I could tell you how happy I am to see faithful members share their testimony of the gospel. I have been given the right to share with you a small portion of the prophecy that president Nelson is preparing us to receive. I’m not able to proceed further but what. I will reveal will illuminate the power of the temple and the endowment that we will need to sustain us through the tribulations that are about to be unleashed. Before that day comes God will earn His prophet to perils that await us. I prophesied that if we receive section 109. We will be prepared for the protection that we will need to survive. The key is to use the temple and call us to participate in the solem assembly and learn how to use it to become one in receiving collective revelation Using stakes ward families to receive and validate personal and collective revelation and there participation in marvelous miracles reserved for the faithful in these the days of the fullness of times. All of the blessing given in section are about to come forth I so testify in His name amen
We certainly all need to use temple, covenant, wards, stakes, and following the Prophet to receive the help we need in these days. Bless us all in these efforts!

Something I took from verse 21 is that my personal life is an ongoing restoration. When I repent and take the sacrament every week I am restored to the blessings that God has ordained to be given to those who reverence Him. Gives me so much hope.

I benefitted from the comments (about 27:40) about growing by degrees (likened to degrees of glory) until able to be in the presence of the Almighty. I grow by degrees (gradually and steadfastly) to expand in the synonyms of glory, even honor / power / majesty / might / dominion / truth / justice / judgment / mercy and an infinity of fulness from everlasting to everlasting. To me it means I can increase in my capacity, by degrees, to keep commandments, be refined in temperament, and endure to the end. This can mean expansion of quality in my relationships too. Joseph Smith had to be highly sanctified and consecrated to be worthy to receive such glorious revelations as were expressed in DC 109. I am grateful!

I feel Heavenly Father's love in that I am always forgiven when have repented. I love the Lord and know how he loves me and they are truly amazing. I have no words to express just how wonderful they are.
I have been shown I have tasted of the fruit of life in the temple, whilst I find I am learning , to keep my Covenants as best I can . I am experiencing the power of our lords Atonement, and hope to foever, through repentance till He can take me home.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, to quote a Garfield joke: “now we are even.” Joking! Very awesome learning you both shared thank you. What came to mind as you invited sharing, is what an Infinite cost was paid by our Heavenly Parents and Jesus Christ, and it gives Their great authenticity as we gather to Them in the Temple to make covenants and try to honour and keep our covenants, made with God through Jesus Christ. Then we too can authentically rejoice in Their great gift of Priesthood Keys.
What great blessings come from following the commandments of God. Just think of all the sacrifice that entailed for the early saints to get to Kirtland. But as they uprooted their lives and joined together in unity, it allowed the Lord to endow them with power. This is a great section that helps us know what we can look forward to as we unify ourselves with God and become His covenant people. Thank you for this conversation.

Section 109 makes me feel more faithful and blessed in serving in the temple as an Ordinance worker every Saturday, v. 13 “And that all people who shall enter upon the threshold of the Lord’s house may feel thy power, and feel constrained to acknowledge that thou hast sanctified it, and that it is thy house, a place of thy holiness.” Love this dedicatory prayer very much.💗💗💗🙏🙏🙏

Lately God has been reminding me that I can discern truth from error and drawing me to my covenants so I really appreciate this discussion. We recently went to Kirkland and I had a very powerful experience in the Whitney Store. I appreciate the opportunity to ponder on the dedicatory prayer even more. The Kirtland Temple is such a special place and I felt the Spirit testifying that Kirtland. Had been the sight of many Christ manifestations.

I have thought long about the premises that we will have all that God has, without diminishing what He has. And I believe it is an unfettered (except by eternal law under which even God is bound) power to create. We have Mortality as an exercise in creation with boundaries so we can understand the power of creation for good and evil. The math of infinity is that given the power of creation multiplied by the pure love of Christ we can create worlds (and beings) without number, time with no seconds, minutes, hours, days, years, decades, centuries, millennia, etc. Our constant yearning/drive as children of God is to create. And we are hard wired to create: children and families, meals, 100 story buildings, music, paintings, stories, new ways to harness energy, cures for diseases, etc. When corrupted that same yearning, drive creates: human suffering, chaos, hatred, ways to engage in evil, interference with God’s plan, etc.

God clothed us in His righteousness, he died for us and sacrificed His life for His believers. This is the only covenant that we need to make first and foremost. Ephesians 2:8 For you have been saved by grace through faith, not of yourselves, it is a gift from God, not of works.

It's such a powerful dedicatory prayer. You referred to a letter that Joseph had shared with the Saints in Kirtland and also the Missouri Saints regarding Section 84. Where can I find that. And, where would I find the source of who was with Joseph the day he sought inspiration from the Lord to know how to dedicate the Kirtland Temple. I tried getting an answer using both of my AI programs, one of which is usually pretty good, but I got a response that it was Joseph alone who sought inspiration around the dedicatory role and "couldn't confirm" that anyone else was present when he did so.

Why don't we talk more about people like Brigham Young speaking in "cloven tongues" at the Kirtland Temple dedication? Apparently, Brigham spoke in a language no one could understand and then David W. Patten translated it for those present. Why doesn't that hapoen anymore and why don't we talk about it?
I can't answer why it doesn't happen anymore (and I can't be sure that it doesn't), but I think we do talk about it. It is not what the point of this section and President Nelson's emphasis is, but I have spoken about it in Kirtland and have heard others talk about it there too.
I love in 68 where it says Joseph Smith, Jun., and all his afflictions and persecutions-how he has covenanted with Jehovah The covenant is Jesus Christ it is only with Him we make it to our Heavenly Father. That to me is grace at it's very finest. Not leaving us to be as we are but lifting us up through our Savior Jesus Christ! Beautiful message y'all! Those early saints were amazing I am thankful for their examples shortcomings and all. Just like I am thankful for the saints today!

What we are referring to with this word is not the Spirit. It is something else, that seems to be both material and immaterial. Steve mentioned the places in the D&C where it is spoken of. I think it would be a great personal study to go through the sections he mentioned and try to get a grip on just what the Lord is speaking of here. I don't think we will come to a perfect understanding here, but it would be a fantastic study!
I have realized recently that the Lord gives us opportunities and invitations in our daily lives to utilize the Holy Ghost and become more Holy. It’s up to us to accept the invitations and opportunities.

I believe that the way one obtains the “stuff” is set forth in the intercessory prayer when Jesus prays that we may, in him, be one with the Father as the Son is one with the Father. In my opinion, that is brought about by merging with the Godhead, not in body, not in spirit, but in Intelligence.
I thought I posted earlier but it didn’t seem to save. It appears that in 1837 most Patriarchal blessings stated lineages. Prior to that most did not. (See figure 1 from “The Practice and Meaning of Declaring Lineage in Patriarchal Blessings” in the Interpreter). Basically went from 40->90%. Are we thinking that the keys Moses gave had anything to do with that? Or do we think it was just a delay naturally expected in the harmonization/standardization of blessings?
That is a great question! I don't think we could know with any degree of certainty. It may be that keys made the declarations more possible. It also may be that the restoration of those keys just brought its importance to the forefront and that affected things. Perhaps some other explanation altogether is the right one. Still, it seems like this was most likely to have played a role in that change. Fun to ponder on that. Thanks. This is so important. God makes it clear, this is not a zero sum game. The temple makes it clear that there is more available to us than we can conceive of!
This so insightful thank you. In your comment it is through the Holy Ghost. I would say it is through Christ as we listen to the Holy Ghost but when we act on those promptings that is acting as Christ into the second commandment as we gather others not just ourselves, then we are exalted by our actions and repentance only upon the cleansing blood of Christ we are inheritors of what the Father has for us. Individual then family affairs. Then the Holy Ghost witnesses to Christ of our preparedness and works and repentance.

I feel myself changing as I have taken unprecedented measures to attend the Temple Daily these last 2 weeks in preparation for conference. I feel armed with power beyond my own choose an act differently then I would before it's changing my very nature, preparing me to be the queen God intends me to be

I loved the reminder from Brother Harper that this is about exaltation of families. I am so blessed by temple ordinances and covenants. I had read D&C section 109 before our Prophet Russell M Nelson has challenged us to study it. When i looked at it and found that for a different set of study I highlighted verse 10-12, and verse 23. I remembered referred to this section in another sets of studies, but came to realize it was a preparation to study it more and more through his request for all to study and ponder. I enjoyed so much sharing your video and your spiritual insights-rephrasing the revelation of our loving Prophet. Now, you have given me another opportunity to study deep in the section. What a blessing to have a living and amazing Prophet, and his love and example for the Lord. A prophet who strongly believes and set examples of all great health belongs to God, amen. A hundred years of age in these later-days is an endurance of love with however whatever the world would throw at you, unique, valued, and a miracle for those who believed he is a prophet of God. Also, a blessing to have a temple built in our area and was merely dedicated by beloved Elder Dieter F. Uchdtorf of The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in Jesus name, amen.
We are indeed so abundantly blessed to have a prophet who continually counsels us, and how blessed we are when we follow that counsel.

D&C 109 keeps coming to me as I attend the temple. The blessings are incredible! As I strive to attend the temple often as the prophet asked us, I feel protected, empowered, and understand the purpose of the temple and covenants better.

I read but don’t really understand it, yet I don’t think I ever really ASKED for knowledge.But I am repenting and am applying myself to ask for help. I look forward to studying it in 2025. Go ahead, keep straining at gnats and swallowing camels. Jesus Christ REJECTED the church WITH IT'S DEAD in 1844. Section 101 describes the REDEMTION of Zion, section 124 brings it all into focus. THE REAL QUESTION is WHY someone like yourself who studies the DnC HASN'T SEEN THIS.
I've long appreciated the relation between sections 88 and 109. Thanks for the additional insights and knowledge. It is marvelous to consider that God's light, glory, knowledge, truth, intelligence, and dominion are infinite and that He longs to share the "infinity of fullness" with us.
Thank you, Dr. Harper for pointing out that that prayer begins with an acknowledgement that God keeps covenant. That strengthens my faith in Him.
My favorite verse may be 21 which holds the promise of forgiveness as we repent and reverence the temple.

I also have come to see in the temple how the Lord helps us even know WHAT to pray for. He helps us focus our minds on the most important things.

God has put in my path, through the last few months, people and circumstances that hace prepared me and brought me to the spiritual place where for the first time in my 60 years that I've had/have the desire, more importantly, the determination to prepae for Conference with fasting and prayer and things I need the Lord's help with. One of my questios/requests to Father in Heaven is to help me finally let go of a soul crushing pain that I've carried for 30 years!!
God can do all things and I know He will bless me in the coming days/weeks/years to heal from this pain completely and gain a new acceptance of myself.l that I've had because of the circumstances that caused this pain.

I read section 109 on my own today. Feel that this prayer was reserved for us today. Interesting to me was that the Kirkland Temple did not have to be rededicated when The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints purchased it earlier this year. We will need the blessings asked for in this prayer now and in coming days in specific ways as there is an escalation of events. It feels personal to me.
I agree! It feels very, very personal. These blessings are for us and our temple attendance today as much as at any time. President Nelson's talk was mostly about section 110, but he wanted us to read section 109, which is instructive also.

I was so touched by the message of the Salvation and Exaltation and what they mean. It has touched me to think when I go to the temple to worship and to humbly pray for the blessing of mercy from my Heavenly Father and the Savior to receive the blessings promised of sanctification, and purification by the Holy Spirit wow! Brethren it was like the Holy Ghost lead me to see this video. My eyes are opening wider in the necessity of the restoration of Christ’s gospel on the earth. I am a convert and have to overcome addictions. I’m gaining a better understanding that I can’t be perfect while I’m in mortality. I have had many difficulties in keeping the word of wisdom due to these addictions and haven’t attended the temple for many years. It is my desire to return to the temple and receive the blessings from doing so. I feel more hopeful now as I listen to what you are both bringing to my attention. Having faith, I know somehow in someway I will accomplish retuning to the temple with the help and blessings from our Father in Heaven with the knowledge that He understands and knows who I am. Having faith and a greater understanding of the power of the blessings we can receive as individuals from our Heavenly Father is so important and motivating. Thank you.

Thank you brethren for this discussion! The point was made that worthiness (as a synonym for wholeness or, completeness) is granted us as a result of consistently demonstrating to ourselves and to our Father what we value. Certainly the world offers mounds of opportunities to value "that which moth doth corrupt". However, the Temple reminds us to constantly value what the Lord blesses us with ("I hold them sacred"). It seems that the Lord's servants are among us to accomplish two fundamental goals: (1) continually remind us of our worth as chidren of Loving Eternal Truth (2) simultaneously point us to the potential of our everlasting. We are His glory. That is the path of realization that Christ sets us on. Thanks for the opportunity to look more closely at the mark!

I wish I could tell you how happy I am to see faithful members share their testimony of the gospel. I have been given the right to share with you a small portion of the prophecy that president Nelson is preparing us to receive. I’m not able to proceed further but what. I will reveal will illuminate the power of the temple and the endowment that we will need to sustain us through the tribulations that are about to be unleashed. Before that day comes God will earn His prophet to perils that await us. I prophesied that if we receive section 109. We will be prepared for the protection that we will need to survive. The key is to use the temple and call us to participate in the solem assembly and learn how to use it to become one in receiving collective revelation Using stakes ward families to receive and validate personal and collective revelation and there participation in marvelous miracles reserved for the faithful in these the days of the fullness of times. All of the blessing given in section are about to come forth I so testify in His name amen
We certainly all need to use temple, covenant, wards, stakes, and following the Prophet to receive the help we need in these days. Bless us all in these efforts!

Something I took from verse 21 is that my personal life is an ongoing restoration. When I repent and take the sacrament every week I am restored to the blessings that God has ordained to be given to those who reverence Him. Gives me so much hope.

I benefitted from the comments (about 27:40) about growing by degrees (likened to degrees of glory) until able to be in the presence of the Almighty. I grow by degrees (gradually and steadfastly) to expand in the synonyms of glory, even honor / power / majesty / might / dominion / truth / justice / judgment / mercy and an infinity of fulness from everlasting to everlasting. To me it means I can increase in my capacity, by degrees, to keep commandments, be refined in temperament, and endure to the end. This can mean expansion of quality in my relationships too. Joseph Smith had to be highly sanctified and consecrated to be worthy to receive such glorious revelations as were expressed in DC 109. I am grateful!

What came to mind as you invited sharing, is what an Infinite cost was paid by our Heavenly Parents and Jesus Christ, and it gives Their great authenticity as we gather to Them in the Temple to make covenants and try to honour and keep our covenants, made with God through Jesus Christ. What great blessings come from following the commandments of God. Just think of all the sacrifice that entailed for the early saints to get to Kirtland. But as they uprooted their lives and joined together in unity, it allowed the Lord to endow them with power. This is a great section that helps us know what we can look forward to as we unify ourselves with God and become His covenant people. Thank you for this conversation.

Thank you for the enlightening further of my testimony of the temple. Section 109 makes me feel more faithful and blessed in serving in the temple as an Ordinance worker every Saturday, v. 13 “And that all people who shall enter upon the threshold of the Lord’s house may feel thy power, and feel constrained to acknowledge that thou hast sanctified it, and that it is thy house, a place of thy holiness.” Love this dedicatory prayer very much.💗💗💗🙏🙏🙏

Lately God has been reminding me that I can discern truth from error and drawing me to my covenants so I really appreciate this discussion. We recently went to Kirkland and I had a very powerful experience in the Whitney Store. I appreciate the opportunity to ponder on the dedicatory prayer even more. The Kirtland Temple is such a special place and I felt the Spirit testifying that Kirtland. Had been the sight of many Christ manifestations.

I have thought long about the premises that we will have all that God has, without diminishing what He has. And I believe it is an unfettered (except by eternal law under which even God is bound) power to create. We have Mortality as an exercise in creation with boundaries so we can understand the power of creation for good and evil. The math of infinity is that given the power of creation multiplied by the pure love of Christ we can create worlds (and beings) without number, time with no seconds, minutes, hours, days, years, decades, centuries, millennia, etc.
Our constant yearning/drive as children of God is to create. And we are hard wired to create: children and families, meals, 100 story buildings, music, paintings, stories, new ways to harness energy, cures for diseases, etc. When corrupted that same yearning, drive creates: human suffering, chaos, hatred, ways to engage in evil, interference with God’s plan, etc.

God clothed us in His righteousness, he died for us and sacrificed His life for His believers. This is the only covenant that we need to make first and foremost. Ephesians 2:8 For you have been saved by grace through faith, not of yourselves, it is a gift from God, not of works.
His death and our covenant with God that allow us to even more fully partake of His sacrifice are the great gifts of our life!
Thanks so much for this. Got me started on my own deep dive. Somehow, even though I was reading and listening for these types of challenges and I love this talk and read and listened to it, I missed it. Heard a few people refer to it and didn't make it a priority, That's ok. We can't do all the things and hopefully the spirit helps us figure out what is most important for us. TY for another wonderful conversation with you and Dr. Harper. I've been studying Section 109 each week as I have moments within my service in the Red Cliffs Temple. It's such a powerful dedicatory prayer. You referred to a letter that Joseph had shared with the Saints in Kirtland and also the Missouri Saints regarding Section 84. Where can I find that. And, where would I find the source of who was with Joseph the day he sought inspiration from the Lord to know how to dedicate the Kirtland Temple. I tried getting an answer using both of my AI programs, one of which is usually pretty good, but I got a response that it was Joseph alone who sought inspiration around the dedicatory role and "couldn't confirm" that anyone else was present when he did so.
I will ask Steve, but I am pretty sure it is all on the Joseph Smith Papers website.

Why don't we talk more about people like Brigham Young speaking in "cloven tongues" at the Kirtland Temple dedication?
Apparently, Brigham spoke in a language no one could understand and then David W. Patten translated it for those present.

I can't answer why it doesn't happen anymore (and I can't be sure that it doesn't), but I think we do talk about it. It is not what the point of this section and President Nelson's emphasis is, but I have spoken about it in Kirtland and have heard others talk about it there too.

I love in 68 where it says Joseph Smith, Jun., and all his afflictions and persecutions-how he has covenanted with Jehovah
The covenant is Jesus Christ it is only with Him we make it to our Heavenly Father. That to me is grace at it's very finest. Not leaving us to be as we are but lifting us up through our Savior Jesus Christ! Beautiful message y'all! Those early saints were amazing I am thankful for their examples shortcomings and all. Just like I am thankful for the saints today!

Steve Harper, please tell me where to learn more about 'this stuff'. The Spirit is called 'It' in the BOM.
What we are referring to with this word is not the Spirit. It is something else, that seems to be both material and immaterial. Steve mentioned the places in the D&C where it is spoken of. I think it would be a great personal study to go through the sections he mentioned and try to get a grip on just what the Lord is speaking of here. I don't think we will come to a perfect understanding here, but it would be a fantastic study!
I have realized recently that the Lord gives us opportunities and invitations in our daily lives to utilize the Holy Ghost and become more Holy. It’s up to us to accept the invitations and opportunities.

I believe that the way one obtains the “stuff” is set forth in the intercessory prayer when Jesus prays that we may, in him, be one with the Father as the Son is one with the Father. In my opinion, that is brought about by merging with the Godhead, not in body, not in spirit, but in Intelligence.
I think also that light, or intelligence, will start to flow to us without compulsory means as we become truly virtuous, or godly, beings.

I thought I posted earlier but it didn’t seem to save.
It appears that in 1837 most Patriarchal blessings stated lineages. Prior to that most did not. (See figure 1 from “The Practice and Meaning of Declaring Lineage in Patriarchal Blessings” in the Interpreter). Basically went from 40->90%.
Are we thinking that the keys Moses gave had anything to do with that? Or do we think it was just a delay naturally expected in the harmonization/standardization of blessings?
That is a great question! I don't think we could know with any degree of certainty. It may be that keys made the declarations more possible. It also may be that the restoration of those keys just brought its importance to the forefront and that affected things. Perhaps some other explanation altogether is the right one. Still, it seems like this was most likely to have played a role in that change. Fun to ponder on that. Thanks.

This so insightful thank you. In your comment it is through the Holy Ghost. I would say it is through Christ as we listen to the Holy Ghost but when we act on those promptings that is acting as Christ into the second commandment as we gather others not just ourselves, then we are exalted by our actions and repentance only upon the cleansing blood of Christ we are inheritors of what the Father has for us. Individual then family affairs. Then the Holy Ghost witnesses to Christ of our preparedness and works and repentance.
