I had the opportunity to work as an administrative assistant to a gold mine general manager, so I learned about the refinery's and connection with the fire. The more fire applied to the gold, become more pure and valuable. I used to feel weak when trials and tribulations came to me in the past, but after this chance, I learned to be stronger and felt closer to my Heavenly Father and my Saviour. My pain has a purpose and it is not wasted. Thanks for your efforts to teach the gospel ❤😊.
Amazing thoughts, thank you so much! When President Nelson pleads with us to increase our capacity to receive personal revelation, I feel he's inviting us to become familiar and COMFORTABLE with the fire of the Holy Ghost. Then we will be able to abide the Day of His coming and stand, not cower or hide, when He appeareth. I tell my students, "Get used to the fire!"
I know you are probably getting tired of hearing from me every week, but I just wanted to thank you, Kerry, for sharing your story of seeking prestige. I don't want to sound vain in sharing this, but Heavenly Father blessed me with an intellectual mind. Understanding scripture and the gospel comes fairly easy to me. He's also given me a gift to be able to teach. In addition to this, my love language is affirmation, and when I teach, speak in public or expound the scriptures to others, I get a lot of affirmation. Too much public adulation is probably my most difficult trial, and I have to say, I look to you as an example. I think you are probably the smartest guy at BYU, and are so good at expounding the scriptures! I think to myself, it must be so hard for a guy like Kerry to stay humble. And yet I think you are the most humble teacher on the internet. You are always so kind and polite. It is hard, at least for me, to be good at something and not be prideful about it, especially when all around you, people are constantly telling you how great you are. And yes, the irony of what I'm doing right now has not escaped me. I guess I'm just saying thank you for being vulnerable about a weakness that I'm also working on overcoming. Listening to the Spirit, listening to others, and repenting immediately when the Spirit shows me I'm doing it again, is helping. I still have a long way to go.
This warms my heart and puts a smile on my face! I could only hope to have a moment to comment further! I love the True Refiners Fire! Love and prayers, Brotheren. 39:23
I attended the temple yesterday and covenanted to keep the law of consecration, as Iistened to this podcast I understood at a deeper level how the privilege of obeying the law of tithing does make my more Christ and Godlike and fit for Their kingdom.
I am so grateful for podcast like yours and others that help me understand scripture and its practical application. I find myself in an upward spiral of greater trust and commitment that leads to greater understanding, that leads to greater commitment and trust. This upward spiral has changed why I want to be true to my covenants. It has become a personal choice born of a growing love for God and thus my neighbor, and even myself. Thank you.
Kerry, I just wanted to thank you for your amazing book "Learning to Love Isaiah." I know the focus of this episode was Malachi, and it was awesome, but the CFM scripture block had so many of Isaiah's teachings. I finally feel like I have been able to "search Isaiah" and begin to feel its great power and doctrines because of your book! The format and Book of Mormon highlights are inspired. Thank you, thank you, for helping me keep this commandment of my Savior! Thank you for choosing to spread the Gospel! May you be blessed for your efforts. 🙏✨️💖✨️🙏
Also, I think Doctrine and Covenants 84:31-43 really defines modern priesthood holders as the Sons of Aaron, which may add to our understanding of righteous offerings to the Lord.
I agree 100%! Dr. Muhlestein’s book “Learning to Love Isaiah” has opened up so much for me too! I keep it out on my dresser and refer to it often. Thank you thank you!!
Thank you for the insights. I now place even more importance on the words our prophets, seers, and leaders, speak. I know that they speak what God our Father has put into their hearts to speak to us. And yet; I know it now more profoundly. Thank you both.
This was such a great discussion about these scriptures! I need to be more refined, and living the law of tithing is one way for that to happen in my life. Thank you!❤
I love how you talked about sitting with your feelings, so you can absorb the discomfort. This helps you not want to do those things again and helps you to be more refined. I remember something John Rosemond, a family counselor said-when your children do something wrong and they feel bad about it after you corrected them let them sit in that for a while so they learn from it. Don’t try to quickly soothe them to make those feelings go away otherwise they won’t learn from it. Of course we’re supposed to comfort our children. Give them a little time to internalize what they’ve done wrong.our Heavenly parents know what they’re doing.
I appreciate the discussion this week. As I've struggled with some things recently, I feel a renewed sense of commitment to the Lord when it would have been easier to shrink. Thank you for this.
I love the reminder of definition meaning to dwell... so it's indicative of something long-term. So, it's also about whether I'm in his presence just to confess He is the Christ and then ask to leave, or am prepared to forever be with Him. And Kerry, thanks for talking about the natural man not liking to be killed. It's just as C.S. Lewis wrote in the Great Divorce.
Really great point that Israel’s whole job is to get the blessings of Israel to all; therefore “sons of Levi” applies to all members. One thing that makes the scriptures real is Handel’s Messiah. This is because it often sings one line over and over. I never considered the scriptures line by line much. I woke up once to hearing “and he shall purify” over and over. It hit me that this is not a conditional statement. I just felt a lot of peace feeling that what I was bad at I would someday be good at thanks to God. The scripture comes off as a promise. i just felt very reassured, grateful and hopeful. Thanks also for pointing out that Samuel the Lamanite is really a John the Baptist-like prophet.
The refiners fire helps change us from one form, solid rock, to another form, liquid, that can be molded into a shape that is valued. The Fuller’s soap is an ingredient that reaches deep into the liquid and breaks the bonds with impurities. Both processes require me to let the Master Refiner prevail: accept that I am not in my final form and allow experience to change me, and search out the impurities that I need to let go of.
I don't think it's any coincidence that Malachi teaches tithing before teaching about blessings of the Temple. Those two things are intertwined together, from the physical building of the temple to the building of our personal temple.. from baptismal covenants to temple covenants.
Thank you for another great discussion. Could I go back to chapter 20:9 where it says they “did cry out with one voice, and gave glory to Jesus “. Can you tell me what that actually looks like?
“ Cleansing” was the part which allowed the 3 Nephites to transform even to a much more advanced physical state (3 Ne 28.36)! A lot of ways we show our endearment to the Lord as to aLwaYs remember the Savior (dc 20.77,79), keeping the Sabbath (Ex 31.13) a sign between me & thee ! Tithing helps us to be organized to know what our finances are to compute what 10% really is. Just as the law of chastity is imperative to not offend the spirit ! It requires INTEREST (Mosiah 4.18) w/ the things of the Lord to make that become our 1st effort in life & living (Mt 6.33)!
A few people left some messages that somehow, as I was trying to reply, they went away and I can't find them anymore. If your message is somehow lost now, please put it on again. Sorry about that!
Who can stand @ 39? Can it be who can stand up for Christ at that day? Like Peter who denied him because the pressure was too great for whatever reason, meaning whether he did it because he wanted to stay as close yo the Lord as possible or that he really was afraid to be associated with Him at that moment. Anyway, just a thought that maybe it is somehow they we stand up for Him and don’t deny Him at that day.
Perhaps Mormon probably didn’t put Christ’s expounded material because it was too good (3 Nephi 26:8-11). So jealous it seems everyone speaks Hebrew and Greek but me. I am grateful for your insights.
I think there is something about it being too good for a world and people that are not prepared. There is probably more than that, but it seems like that must be part of it.
Yes, I don't think it was a coincidence that when the Savior expounded on those scriptures, it was given to that audience. They had been prepared to receive it. We can receive it as well, but only after we are prepared.
Okay, so I was still thinking about the messengers in 3 Nephi 24:1 and who they could represent and here is another idea. Jesus is all three of the messengers and He is preparing the way for us to come back to the presence of the Father. “Thus said the Father unto Malachi-Behold, I will send my messenger, (Christ) and he (Christ) shall prepare the way before me,(the Father). Just another idea.

Yep! If we are going to be sanctified, we need to get used to the fire.

I love the True Refiners Fire!

The refiners fire is welcome, but also hard. I am glad for the hardness in my good moments. Bless you!
I attended the temple yesterday and covenanted to keep the law of consecration, as Iistened to this podcast I understood at a deeper level how the privilege of obeying the law of tithing does make my more Christ and Godlike and fit for Their kingdom.
There is more power in consecrating in all things we do than we often realize!
I had to listen to this episode twice because there's so much here to learn. I love the discussion on the refiner's fire.
I am so glad it was helpful!

Tithing is just a small representative sample of our consecration, but an important one!

There is so much in the way of power in these scriptures, isn't there!?! What a wonderful thing you have taught us.
48:00 to 49:00 or so, I really needed to hear, thank you.
So glad it was helpful for you!
