    Its unacceptable that people suggest you shouldn't expect fuji's autofocus to work properly or that the rest of the features make up for the price of the camera. I just don't get it. It's 2024, you pay 2500 usd and you expect your camera to work. I don't want best in class autofocus, just something that I can use. Someone in the comments suggested that it's 2 generations behind sony? Really? The autofocus for video just doesnt't work! They screwed it up with their fake AI features and their silence on the matter makes it so much worst. I love my fuji gear but it saddens me to be treated like that

    I think with Fuji we need to configure how we want. And this does not match the Fuji buyer's expectations. They want Fuji to be a Canon or Sony, but it's not, it's Fuji. I have a Sony A7iv and a Z8 and what I learned was: that Sony has fewer options and when you need more, it is frustrating, then Fuji has these options but when I use the Z8 (expensive than Fuji or Sony) I need to configure, like I do with my Fuji! Z8 doesn't work out of the box like the Fuji XH2s. Look, I am not saying that Fuji hasn't problems and needs more improvement of course they need too, but I worked to know how to make the camera work well as I did with my Z8 and my Sony A7iv, Sony has problems in other areas and I don't see people creating a big noise about that. When we talk about Z8/Z9 it's worse and what I see is a lot of channels teaching how to solve or talking about all configurations and explaining that. For me, this approach is way better than just complaining and not offering solutions or workarounds. We need to change our behaviour, we need channels that offer solutions and not just complainings.

      @@Carlos-mw5rw I've tried many settings to make something as simple as walking toward a camera, at a rather casual pace, work and it hasn't gotten better. Keeping it in multi, there are two main adjustments to set, tracking and speed.ther is 0 to +4 in tracking and -5 to +5 in speed. If I had a solution I would gladly offer it. And beleive me I tried. But at a total of 275 possible settings I'm not making that video just to prove it. It would be an excruciatingly long and boring video to watch. I disagree. I got this camera because fuji said it's their flagship, new and fast sensor etc. If fuji offers eye af me as a customer I don't want an af which sometimes works and sometimes not. Edvard said in his last video he thinks the xh2s is working more with contrast af than with phase af. Even in your video the af pumping reminds me to old panasonic af and I am really angry actually. Imagine you buy a car with airbags...and as a customer you have to accept that it works sometimes. "You still have your car seatbelt ". Nobody would accept it.

AF settings didn't need adjusting. just used them as they came, straight out of the box. and they work. they stick to the face. the tests i did, the simple (and admittedly boring lol) walking back and forth was as easy as it gets. i didn't try to fool the camera. never even gave the camera my back. i didn't move around like a maniac. jump in and out in an urealistic manner. just waking back and forth. occasionally stepping out of frame then stepping back in. all my other cameras, except my m43 cameras and older canon camers (t4i) who used contrast detect, would easily pass such a simple test.

    Everyone is hyper focused on the focusing (see what I did there) but for $2200 US, it can't be beat for the features included that other companies simply don't offer anywhere near this price point. The trade off is the autofocus, this has been going on for years and no one should be surprised that Fuji remains a solid 2 generations behind Sony. For folks that video autofocus is a priority they shouldn't choose Fuji. If you manual focus, you can't beat the Fuji feature seat for the money. Highest value in APS-C on the market.

      the xh2s certainly is packed with a lot of features. many of which i won't ever need or use ,but still... its a lot of bang for your buck! As i've said in other comments. this video isn't too say the camera sucks, its simply to show people who might be considering this camera an example of what to expect if you'll be shooting in scenarios where people would be moving around. i absolutely love the images from this camera and all my other fuji cameras. In particular when photographing people. the skin tones and textures can't be beat in my opinion. my only complaint on this camera, is the AFC for video. More than anything, that pulsing it does as it follows a moving subject. if it weren't for that, i' would have gottten rid of my sony a7s3. impressive as it is getting clean video footage at iso's above 12,800.. its rare i'm shooting in conditions that actually require that.

If a6000 is released in 2014, in Fuji world, that's when x-t1 is released. Basically, it's 5 generations behind the leading brand. In fairness, 2 generations behind would probably something like Panasonic when releasing s5ii.

    I keep seeing a lot of people site the LUMIX cameras as being better AF than Fuji now, and as someone that uses both the Fuji flagships (XH2s/xh2) and the s5iix pretty regularly, the S5iiX has pretty much the same AF reliability. Maybe the GH7 is better? I dunno. I don’t know that we have a large enough sample base to make those claims yet. Having that said, I haven’t had any issues with the Fujis in a professional setting. But I don’t really try to stress the AF system either - especially in a professional setting. I keep the AF to low risk, controlled shots, and it’s worked fine. Surprisingly good in controlled settings. Good enough to get out of the way. I also only use the focus box/tap to focus system to give the camera some input on what to look for anytime I’m moving around or the subject is moving and it’s pretty much bang on 90% of the time. The only system that has pretty much perfected AF is Sony. And the only Sony camera I’ve had a perfect AF experience with is the A1. There’s almost no input required and it’s almost too sticky with the touch to focus - sometimes refusing to let it go haha. The lesser expensive models weren’t as good as the A1, in my experience (like the a74 and FX3), but close.

  • @9Mtikcus
    @9Mtikcus 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Thankyou for running these test, you may accuse me of being a fuji fan boy, that is your choice. As a photographer and filmmaker using Fuji cameras (or anything over the years) these results seem perfectly acceptable, and for professional use tweaking settings is not unreasonable, yes if everything worked perfectly without any user input I guess it would make jobs easier, but we may as well just be camera operators, not photographers or videographers. These tests walking towards the camera, are the same as photos of tests charts to me of little use in how a camera is used. I can't think of one occasion where I have filmed someone walking towards the camera. I can see when you may want it as someone enters the scene etc.. but would I want it at F/1.4 where the focus in the background is changing so much and quickly, distracting from the point of focus (the person) I'd probably stop it down, in reality the camera would be on a gimbal and the subject would be large in frame as they walk forwards (and the videographer walking backwards) If you were a wedding videographer/photographer maybe the bride walking down the aisle but again would you do it at F/1.4 with the distraction of the guests dropping in and out of focus as the bride walks past them.... Yes people want to test the cameras and want to be able to trust the autofocus works at F/1.4 (where DOF is only a few cm) but I have worked throughout the "Bad Firmware" period, without any issues. It maybe that if you need to video at F/1.4 and use CAF and track a subject as it walks towards the camera, and you need to get it all done in one take or you only have one take then Fuji may not be the right system for you,. It may not be the answer people want, but you have two or three immediate choices, stop down the lens to increase the DOF (which makes focusing easier, and allows more tolerance for when the focus misses), manual focus, or sell your fuji gear and buy a different system and hope the faults they have elsewhere do not hold you back. Long term you can hope Fuji improves with Firmware, learn to work around the faults, but in reality the firmware may never improve the autofocus enough to past tests, it is whether it works well enough for you to live with it and enjoy your photography and videography

      hey there. i'm making a follow up video, 95% commentary, my thoughts and opions regarding some of the things you've brought up. I'm still reviewing footage and gathering my thoughts, don't want to just shoot off at the mouth.. But what i will say for now is this... i have a heavy bias towards fuji, something i've repeatedly said in past videos. i own a 5dmk4 and a sony a7r4, yet 98% of the time its my fuji xh1 that i've been grabbing for when i go into my camera cabinet. For the past two months its been the xh2s. When it comes to my fuji cameras, i'm fully capable of 'making them work' . part of the reason i made this video is to give others another side of the fujifilm AF coin. There's a lot of videos of youtubers reviewing the xh2s that claim, with very little evidence to none at all, that the video AF on fuji is reliable and now almost as good as sony. its these videos that pushed me toward getting the xh2s, despite being repeatedly disappointed in fuji' video AF again and again when i'd level up to the next released camera. like i said, there's a special place in my heart for fuji, that keeps me buying them again and again. like you said, if someone needs f1.4 video af, then people should know what the best options are. this video, and others like it, will show help them get to that realization. i've shot many music videos, wide open at 1.4 with the Fe24mm, 35mm, 50mm on the a7s3. creative purposes, if you will. no issues. maybe out there are people who'd like the same subject seperation look, but on a fuji. videos like this will help them decide if they can tolerate fuji's Current level of continuous AF with narrow depth of field or they are willing to us MF .... or, if they are better off with one of the other camera brands, who don't struggle in this area.

    • @9Mtikcus
      @9Mtikcus 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@randallherreraNyc I'm not criticising the video, or even disagreeing with why it was made. I think it is important buyers can make an informed choice, however always go to trusted sources for reviews For an artistic choice I have often shot video at f/1.4 on Fuji but not videos where there is lots of movement from front to back, I have shot dancing and gymnastics on an X-T3 with CAF without any issues, but this is never done at F/1.4 as the DOF needed to make sure a couple are in focus is 2-3 meters having 5cm DOF would never cut it (they spend $$$$ on their outfits, they don't want them blurred out) . What I do dislike is videos/people complaining that the camera they purchased did not get better over time... you should never buy a camera (or anything) , knowing it has weak points and then complaining that even though the weak points have improved with firmware updates it is not as good as company X camera, when it never was at the start. If you buy an electric car that does 200 miles per charge, then it updates the software and now does 201 miles per charge because they change something in the drive motor to make it slightly more efficient you can't then complain that it doesn't do 300 miles per charge like the competitor that has a different engine, different battery and weighs less. Fuji has a long history of supporting cameras over many years following their release with not just bug fixes and minor improvements, to releasing new features, some more than others, the X-T3 was a different camera it received so much post launch updates, but it was also the first camera in that generation and lots of new features went into it. The X-T4 did not receive as much but that was the same sensor and processor as the X-T3 and had already benefitted from what fuji had learned with the X-T3 so there was less to update. Other camera manufacturers release a camera and that is it, no updates but bug fixes (sometimes not even that) and if you want new features (even though the camera is capable) you need to buy the new model. If fuji release an update that makes the camera worse (introduces a bug), it is their job to fix that bug (which they did here)

    For 2.5 times smaller sensor, a few grams lighter than FF doesn't sound reasonable enough to switch from Sony.... What other reason to choose Fuji except for 'colours' and analogue feel given that Sony has improved significantly their colour science... Besides they have amazing AF, low light capabilities and better control over DoF. If Fuji hade made it smaller and lighter and cheaper, it would have been more attempting IMHO.

      I agree. If going for fast primes and flagship bodies there is a negligible difference in size and weight. However, if one is willing to compromise and there are things about fuji that someone likes,( colors, film Sims, retro styling, etc) then there are options from fuji that make sense and there will be a noticeable difference in size and weight. Such as the f2 primes and the xt30 or 50.

      @@randallherreraNyc Nikon z 40 f2 is the same weight even if it's made of plastic. I think sony have similar size f2. 5 lens. With a body like A7C, there is almost no difference in size and weight...

    I agree with your comment on the 16mm f1.4 “loose” aperture ring. What I really enjoy is the close focus ability, as you are able to get some unique images. I may, at some point get the 18mm f1.4, but I am quite content with the 16mm right now. Best wishes for your channel.

    Ill take the 16mm over the 18mm ANY DAY! I Love wide angle shots. To enjoy wide angle shots even more ADD a subject up close, you will then see how much fun wide angle shooting is. This will be my next lens to add to my 23mm 1.4, 35mm 1.4, 56mm 1.2, and my just recently arrived 80mm 2.8 Macro. I shoot with the X-Pro3, I am also based in NYC 💪🏽💪🏽. You got that lens at a KILLER PRICE, ENJOY it. 👍🏼👍🏼

    Exactly what I wanted to hear. I’m trying to make the same decision. A used 16mm is so compelling. I just keep asking myself, “Is the 18mm $500 better than the 16mm?”. I feel like the 16mm is such a bargain right now. Glad to see you are enjoying yours.

    hey randall how you're doing my brother it's so good to talk to somebody who also have the same camera as me. i have the 16-35 mark 2 lens and the 50mm lens i want to get the sigma 18-35 but should i get that even though i have the 16-35 L series lens? i want the 55-250 and the 15-85 lens i was told they are some good lens and they're cheap ya see. i want another good prime len like the 35 for portraits. i want the 1. 15-85 2. 55-250 3. 24mm 4. 24-105 5.35mm 6. 18-35 i think having 8 lens should be good and i don't have to go with full frame if i don't want to right i think camera is good enough

    Regarding the comment about the 18-55 kit lens having varied reviews, I do wonder if that's caused by some people having the camera set on its default of continuous OIS ... which seems to cause vibration and softness. Hard to tell for sure, but I've seen professional photographers note that. And, in my case, I think I notice the difference. I'm not sure the 18-55 focuses as well as the 16-55 either. I am thinking of switching to X-T4 and 16-55 as my core combination, but hope it won't feel too heavy in my hand when I'm roaming around. For me, the problem isn't so much the 18-55's softness as it is its variable aperture, which makes it fiddlier.
