  • I've owned the 50-140 for a couple of months now but only recently took it out for the first time to a portrait shoot.
I share some thoughts and opinions as well as photo samples.

I owned the 50-140 for a bit. I love the build and sharpness to the size; it's a very good lens. I shot everything from sports to portraits are were very happy with the results. That being said, I didn't use it much as I thought I would. It's a beast to carry around (along with other lens) in the backpack. What finally did it for me and why I sold it, was the crazy strange bokeh that you get with this lens when you have anything jagged in the background (i.e. like tree branches). I don't know if this is still the case; you may want to test it out.

I fondled one at Adorama when they first came out. When I was looking at it in the store I kept telling myself that it wasn't too big to carry around but, after renting one for a few days, that changed. As you said, it is a very good lens. Hell, it's a great lens for someone that wants/needs a 70-200mm equivalent Fuji lens. It just wasn't something I really needed and certainly not something I could justify dragging around NYC. The 18-135mm would probably serve me just fine if I had a need for a longer zoom(I don't). None of that means I wouldn't buy the 50-140 in a second if I had the disposable income laying around.

hey , it is a bit big so definitely not a lens that will automatically get packed on every portrait shoot.. For travel , I'd like to bring it every time , but as someone who has stuck mostly to the f2 series of primes until recently, I can definitely feel the weight when i have recently brought it on a vacation, or on hikes.. and yes i would agree, i certainly wouldn't ever call it a bokeh master

heard this about the bokeh which scared me away too and saw it when I rented it once. Kind of wish they'd come out with an upgraded Version 2 of this lens sometime soon. I ended up getting the 55-200 awhile back and love it for size and performance. Yeah not a constant f/2.8 but an underrated lens and a LOT cheaper

Im a firefighter first and a shooter second so my opinion is skewed. With that being said the weight is negligible if your used to heavy stuff. I heard people complain constantly about the 16-55 and when I got it I almost laughed. anyways take care

That is why I ended up buying the 16-55. the 55 end is great for close up work but then I have the option of zooming out for a full body shot. I recently bought the 85mm but even that is limiting in when and where I can use it

the 16-55 is quickly becoming a favorite for me!
