A New Beginning // Bicycle Touring Southeast Asia EP1
Welcome to the first episode of my solo bicycle tour of Southeast Asia.
After having a short holiday in Bali, I begin cycling to the port of Gilimanuk to catch the ferry to Java. Java is like nowhere I have ever been before and after a morning spent getting accustomed to bike touring in crazy traffic, I track down a hotel and prepare for the road ahead.
I hope you'll enjoy this series of my time bicycle touring Southeast Asia.

Great pump 10 years with mine and seated a bead on a 26 mountain bike wheel. My only problem is recently with new 29x2.4 tires on a newer mountain bike it takes forever to get pressure in those tires where I want them

    • @VeloObscura
      @VeloObscura วันที่ผ่านมา

I run that exact size and find it doesn't take too long at all... I suppose it's all a matter of perspective - compared to a floor pump it'll be pretty slow.... I run tubeless at pretty low pressures though... 🤷‍♂️

Pros: Exceptional comfort over rough terrain, including gravel and hardpack surfaces. Cons: - Relatively heavy compared to other components. - Bushings are prone to wear and tear, and replacement kits can be costly. - Requires maintenance, which can be time-consuming and demanding. - Limited saddle angle adjustment due to the slotted rail lock design. - The saddle tends to shift backward during rides, affecting both reach and saddle angle.

The massacre story seems unlikely. I don't mean to say killings didn't happen all over the Tablelands. The early settler colonial period involved considerable killing of Aboriginal people, but this was almost always finding 'camps' and shooting them up. There is a probably true local story of a prisoner being handcuffed to a tree for a later pickup that never eventuated, but mostly if handcuffs were bothered with, the prisoner went before the courts. The cliff story probably comes from an earlier famous event involving Inspector Johnstone (for whom the Johnstone River was named) at the Leap, near Mackay where an Aboriginal women jumped to her death to evade Native Police (it is said the daughter she carried with her over the fall survived).

No spanners. I need an 8mm at least. A 10mm is good as well. I still prefer the Topeak survival gear box. It doesn't have the ratchet, but it has a far more comprehensive set of tools in a case that is about the same size. And yes, it locks shut and does not drop tools.

On the rare occasion you actually need to fix a flat (none for me in over 5000km now), you'll be able to make do with a really lightweight manual pump until you reach a petrol station (keep the car valve adapter in your kit), bike shop or public track pump. I have the Topeak Micro Rocket Carbon, which weighs half as much as this and doesn't have to be recharged. It cost me €30 which means I can have one living on every bike without breaking the bank and without having to remember to bring it on every ride.

It's also a hat that optometrists might like. It not only reduces UV exposure, but also blue light. To keep the hat from slipping on the back of my helmet, I 3D printed some tabs and attached them with double-sided tape. You might need to take a picture of the helmet so that you can design them to match the its contour.

I'm from Perth, Australia, home of Sea To Summit. I used it about 30 nights over 3 years, and suddenly, now, there is a slow leak on one side; turn it over, and there is no leak. I emailed Sea To Summit. They asked me for the batch number and replied they would replace it or refund it. Without blinking, that said it all. I agree; it's like sleeping on a cloud, so comfortable, but in the middle of a 7-day hike, and it's my business and work, it saddens me to move away and buy another brand. Thanks so much for this review.

It's been a long time, but I'm finally back on the road! I had a lot of expectations about how the tour would be and what kind of videos I would make, but I have had those expectations well and truly shattered. Setting off on a solo tour of Southeast Asia has already been a crazy, intense experience and I'm looking forward to sharing it with you. I hope you guys enjoy this first installment and continue to enjoy the series as I film it.

Thanks, mate! Left Australia about 7 weeks ago and I've been on the road for 5. It's been hard getting the time, energy and facilities to sit down and edit the footage, but I'm getting there! Hope you enjoy!

With regards to your Childers tragedy memorial, I was touched deeply by your very thoughtful and respectful address. You are to be commended. We will remember them.

Thank-you. We want to visit these things and to share them, but we try to be as respectful as possible in doing so. I'm glad that came across in the video. Thanks again.

I used the Glider on a set of Renee Hearse Fleecer Ridge tires - if you don't own one of these, don't think -- just buy it!

From what ive heard from the best bike fitters, there is never a reason to have a saddle pointing up. Apparently when there is need for that, you have a problem with fitting.

Like what? Also, that's not the point. The point is that the post suffers from a lack of adjustability, which could impede you from setting the saddle level too.

this seatpost increased a lot of reach distance . you can hardly use it, this is the biggest issue

Increased reach is an issue for me as well and I put the seat as far forward on the rails as possible. Didn’t expect this.

Just tried it before a long group- ride tomorrow- unbelievably good. Took me seconds to get my tyre on and off - much, much quicker than normal tyre levers. Strongly recommended - I think it’s a game-changer.
