  • The wet season is slowly coming to an end and we're starting to experience some short spells of pleasant weather, so I decided to take advantage of a break in the rain to go on a short Bikepacking overnighter.
    Also known as a S240, or Sub-24 hour Overnighter, a short ride like this is a great way to shake down bikes, camping gear or other equipment.
    Things didn't go exactly as planned, but the trip was still thoroughly enjoyable and gave me a great opportunity to test out some new equipment and new video stuff.

    This one didn't turn out how I imagined, but still made for an enjoyable evening....
    Has anyone else been on an overnighter lately?

      My oldest daughter lives 800km away and she recently came for a short visit to do an overnighter with old dad. It was just 42km but we slept on a river and had a great ride and visit. (No video though. Just quality time with my daughter)

      @@BluecollarBackcountry - Sounds perfect!
      We've been on a lot of trips that I didn't video and they were super enjoyable. It's hard balancing "personal time" whilst also feeling like you're missing out on potential video content!
      You can't put a price on quality time with your daughter though.

      Did one from Lilydale to Warburton near Melbourne, 90km return overnight staying at the caravan park. I did it on a single speed with a tent 😳, had to push up Mt Evelyn on the way back, but otherwise quite flat. Need to get a gravel bike. I gave the single speed for city cycling and my old 80s racer that I might try with some upgrades

      Sounds awesome! That's some beautiful country through there!
      Kudos for doing it on a SS. You'll be very happy when you get a gravel rig. 😁

    No worries on how this video turned out Dave, just like all your videos do, a bloody ripper mate. Its really beaut how you and Bonnie show the bare bones of bike touring, all the ups and downs and no bushed over BS all fair dinkum stuff as it is on the spot to look back on to see that even the crook times were a great experience that you endured. 10 out of 10 old mate, please keep'em coming, I'll never tire viewing them as you show the version of Australia that due to events currently well beyond my control that I'm missing out on. Thank you so much for your efforts. Hopefully in the near future I'll look forward to be able to contribute some financial reward to you. Don't worry about coffee mate, make yourselves a hearty brew of billy tea with some camp fire toasted whole meal bread, buttered and topped with strawberry fly bog. Health food of a nation, Ha.👍👍👌💗💗💯

      Thanks so much, Col! That's so nice of you to say, mate!
      I'm glad you appreciate our approach. We try to be as open and genuine as we can and I try to be honest with when things are either good or bad! It's hard because I sometimes catch some flack whenever I speak negatively about anything, but that's just the way it is!
      Don't worry about the financial contribution! We certainly appreciate it and will appreciate it more next year when travels resume, but it isn't an obligation! As long as you watch the videos and enjoy, then that's all that matters!
      I'll need to get that billy for future adventures....
      Cheers!

    When you can't do a tour, those overnight trips sure take the edge off don't they. This was a good one Dave. I'm glad you survived the mozzies. ✌

      Despite being my home country, I haven't really explored that much of England by bike. Mainly just the North East. I have a lot of catching up to do once I get back there!

    G’day mate, good to see you out and about 👍 How long is that line ? Looks like it would make an awesome Rail Trail, did you say it runs all the way to the coast ? And is it all disused ?

    • @VeloObscura
      @VeloObscura  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers, my man!
      I'm not sure of the overall length and I don't know if it went all the way to Port Douglas, but it certainly goes to Cairns.
      There is a tourist train that runs from Cairns to Kuranda and then I think it's abandoned to Mareeba. From Mareeba to Atherton there's an actual rail trail and then beyond Atherton is what I rode part of.
      It's a really beautiful section of rail and I truly wish they would make it into a proper rail trail rather than trying to get a train going again. I think a rail trail would be far more beneficial to the area - and I'm not being biased here. The success of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail comes to mind....

    It's getting a bit late here for me, Dave. (Hope Bonnie is okay; was a bit worried that she wasn't with you on this one.) I liked the video and it certainly shows you're made of 'sterner stuff', Dave! Mind you, I believe that at least some bugs give you a bit of protein, if you're game to do a taste-test!! Loved the waterfall or cascade, whatever! There's also a Carrington Falls that drops in Kangaroo Valley, NSW.

    • @VeloObscura
      @VeloObscura  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No need to worry about Bonnie! She's fine, but we often don't get the same days off, so it's quite hard to do stuff like this together at the moment. I also enjoy doing things myself (as does she) so we do our own thing a lot.
      It's a lovely ride out there, Brian. You'd enjoy it!

    Most bugs can't see red light. If you can find a headlamp with a red light, you will probably have less bugs in your meals at night (and your face).
