It's been a long time, but I'm finally back on the road! I had a lot of expectations about how the tour would be and what kind of videos I would make, but I have had those expectations well and truly shattered. Setting off on a solo tour of Southeast Asia has already been a crazy, intense experience and I'm looking forward to sharing it with you. I hope you guys enjoy this first installment and continue to enjoy the series as I film it.
Great installment! I've been there during Mohammad's birthday and the mosques going off all day till 2am. No tourists gets sleep! Better to hold up on Bali when that happens.
Hey Bro! when I was in Java in the late 80's there was like 180 million people on that Island. And those mosks go off like 5 times a day everyday especially at 5am you won't need an alarm clock. I had the time of my life in Java absolutely loved it. Good luck with the traffic I mainly got around on a motor bike.
Haha, yeah mate! Spoiler alert: I've been in Sumatra the last few weeks and they're even more full on up there! All part of the cultural experience though! It's been a great time. I've been super out of my comfort zone and that's what it's all about. Cheers!
Thanks, mate! Left Australia about 7 weeks ago and I've been on the road for 5. It's been hard getting the time, energy and facilities to sit down and edit the footage, but I'm getting there! Hope you enjoy!
🤣 I've already filmed a ton of stuff and found it quite hard to do the food stuff. There should be a couple of interesting moments, but we'll see - I might be able to voiceover some of it. After I've had a bit of time to reflect in Melaka, hopefully I can get more in future.
Fantastic, I’ve been waiting for your update, I thought you were having too much fun to post a video. Well done, nicely edited, and punchy video, interesting to get a view of this part of the world. I think I would go spare, turning up to accomodation after a hot day and no one there. Well done for keeping your cool!
Haha, yeah it was brutal! Getting anything editing in Indonesia has been very difficult. It's difficult to get the footage and also difficult to find the time to edit. I have very limited visa time and there has been just so much going on... Hopefully now I can get some momentum going with it!
@@VeloObscura ok Great, I really enjoy your videos I am new to bike touring. I purchased a Kona Sutra LTD here in Australia and I have all the gear now, I am very interested to see how you pack your gear on your bike so I can get the weight correct for my bike gear please Dave....thanks Dave
@@VeloObscura after I saw your bike on the vid, I looked for a review online. I found an Italian guy Davide Travelli who has the bike and ridden it through Africa. He loves it. I remember when you flew out to Australia you had the conventional trek (I watched all your vids). You have gone to an MTB. Not long ago I was watching a guy on youtube called Iohan Gueorguiev who did bikepacking in some really remote places. He was a legend, and his bike was very similar to yours. I have a conventional bike 58cm frame with 700cc tyres and I have never felt comfortable on it. I am 6'1" and I think it may just be too big for me. Anyway, I realise that I have been heading in the wrong direction. I have contacted a dealer in NSW and exploring having a longitude delivered here in Melbourne. You are the same height as me if I remember correctly. The large size for the Genesis Longitude is the preference, yes?
Yeah, I know of both those guys! Iohan in particular was an absolute hero. Such a shame what happened to him. Yeah, I liked the Trek, but I have some rougher routes planned eventually and I wanted something that could handle them. So far I've been really enjoying the geometry and the extra leverage the wide bars provide with a heavy load. It's a really stable bike - I'd imagine because it's so long - it really is a massive machine. Super long chain stays. I'm 6'3" and ride the XL. It's great, but I reckon I would be fine on a large. Like I say, it's a super long bike and I think the reduction in reach on the Large over the XL would make it a little comfier. One day I'll have a home base and multiple bikes because although I love the monster truck I'm riding, it'd be great to have something light and fast as well.

I spent Eid Al Adha in Sumatra and that was a pretty interesting time!
That’s a fantastic first episode! Well done 👌🏻 Looking forward to the next one😃
Thanks guys! ❤️
Great to see the videos have started again Dave.
Thanks Jim! Hope you enjoy them!
Not a bad video at all. I liked the format which let the viewers experience some of the real life issues when doing such a journey.
Thanks John!

Long time since I was in Bali, cracked up when you said it was intense.Wait till you get to Java. Prayers morning and afternoon every day.
Haha, yep - and Java is nothing compared to the busier parts of Sumatra!
Gotta work up to it though! 🤣
Wow… hope to see you in Cambodia my man. Let me know whenever you reach Thailand 😊
The videos are VERY far behind. I got to Pai today. Will be heading to Laos next. Maybe in Cambodia in about 2 months?

Easier said than done! 🤣

@neilpenny5475 - Any time! It's a good bike, but I feel like they might release a new version soon!
