The GENIUS Tyre Lever // Tyre Glider Review

  • The Tyre Glider is biggest change the tyre lever has seen since its inception.
    It offers a simple technique for removing tyres that, while sometimes requiring some effort, is extremely effective. In addition to tyre removal, it can also aid in fitting a tyre - which it does very well.

    It makes it so easy to work on tyres.

    I've had this for about one and a half year, and I agree 100% with everything said in the review, with the exception of its right-handedness. I happen to be left-handed, and I haven't had much issue mounting a tyre by pusing with my right hand. But maybe other people have less strength in their wrong hand.
    Other than that, it's a godsend for the dreaded tubeless rim + tough tyre combo, and yes, its slight shortcomings when unseating tyres are more than compensated by how good it is seating them.

    Bought a tyre glider about year a go used it a few times, but the 'hook' you ise to get under the bead of the tyre is quite thick so i still needed to resort to a normal tyre lever to start the removal off.
    When putting a particularly stubborn Continental tyre on i managed to break the hook that goes over the wheel rim, so now its just for removing tyres!

    This is a great tool and highly recommended!! The last piece gave a bit of trouble but with the help of the other hand hold firmly on the end that is not fitted and use the tool the last piece.
    Just one quenstion, has anyone exprience that the Tyre glyder destroyere the tube??
    Also kudos to the manufacturer for making a great tool!!!

      Thanks!
      I have a bit of a "technique" that helps with that last stubborn part of the tyre. Once the Tyre Glider gets stuck, I just back it up a bit and release all the tension, then regrip and push it again. Give it a try! 😁
      I haven't had any issues with any damage to tubes, but I run 100% tubeless now, so I'm unlikely to be able to test that. Why do you ask? Have you had any issues?

      That's right You use tubeless tires I had forgotten that.....
      Today is the first time I use it. I therefore simply wanted to know if there is a risk of damaging the cylel tube. It could be that there was someone who had some experience and something I should be aware of.

    • @JohnSmith-ox7xc
      @JohnSmith-ox7xc 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@erikmortensen1091 Yes it's still possible to damage inner tube. Nicked a tpu tube and a created a sizeable gash on a butyl tube both times because they were caught between the rim and tyre and I tried to brute force it through. It looks like you need some force from the videos but when the tube is caught it's a lot harder to push through, in which case back off, and exam that the inner tube is tucked in as much as possible away from the rim edge.

    • @VeloObscura
      @VeloObscura  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yep! It takes a bit of muscle, but you can do it.
      I used it on an enduro casing 29" tyre and it took a bit of work, but I got there.
      I found that I needed to push it round the bead a little, then back it off, then push it some more. Sort of working my way round in steps. I think if you applied soapy water like another commenter mentioned it would be much easier.

    • @VeloObscura
      @VeloObscura  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I didn't really want to do a direct comparison, but I suppose that's what this is about to a degree!
      I'd definitely say this one is better overall. The way it puts a tyre on is just magic. However, I might have to give the ease of removing a tyre to the other one - but ONLY JUST - and the other one doesn't fit a tyre even half as well.
      I just got a message from the inventor of the Tyre Glider and he acknowledged my comments about the ergonomics etc. There's a new version coming later in the year that addresses those issues.
      Looking forward to seeing what he comes up with!

      As the Tyre Glider is the original, etwas first. All others are knock-offs.
      Buy the original, it is the only one that went through all the R&D.

    • @VeloObscura
      @VeloObscura  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Yeah, it's a bit of a complicated one for me.
      The Tyre Glider was definitely the first to employ this method and indeed would have taken a fair bit of R&D to get it where it is now - However the other tyre lever I tried that has been accused of being a knock-off lacks all the engineering that makes the Tyre Glider so good. The other one is so basic that I'm not really sure that I could say that it takes advantage of the R&D that the Tyre Glider went through.
      So, despite the other lever working in the same manner, I don't know if it's as simple as just calling it a "knock-off" as it lacks the refinement of the Tyre Glider - which is probably a good enough reason to buy the Tyre Glider anyway!
      Cheers for the comments!

      You could carry a small container of soapy water in the saddle bag on a ride to aid the TG get the tyre off and on. Looks a good tool to use. There is another tool called a tyrekey. I have this one and have found it’s pretty good. I’ve have ordered a TG. The thing I don’t like about ordinary tyre levers is you can easily pinch the inner tube on really difficult tyres when trying to get the tyre back on, which I’ve done and that is a nightmare for your fingers and your sanity because you’ve got to get the damn tyre back off. 😅😂

    • @VeloObscura
      @VeloObscura  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You could definitely do that, but honestly I don't think it's necessary in most cases. It might make the job easier with a touring tyre, but if you're touring then you might even have a small amount of dish soap anyway! 😁
      I haven't heard of the Tyre Key, but I'll look it up!
