If you’re not barf half your deck onto the table turn one are you even playing modern Yugioh?
Speaking of power creep. If you look at some of the most powerful spell and trap cards in the game.. they do not come from later Yu Gi Oh in most cases they come from the earliest era of the game. Harpy's, Raigeki, Royal Oppression, Ultimate Offering, Deliquent Duo, Skill Drain, Rivalary of Warlords. I could go on. The idea that somehow Konami had lost the plot in a balancing standpoint is hilarious to begin with when you consider some of the most broken cards released year after year. Or at the genesis of the game. Also let's not forget how many old cards had to be errata'd to be re-balanced due to the fact they're BETTER than new cards, especially starter or combo pieces. I regret to inform my fellow old heads you're lost with your rose-tinted glasses.
This is what happens when you try to make a card game based on a random throw away card game that was created as a plot device for a single anime episode. it was never intended to be an actual functional fun card game. In fact one of the things from that episode was the card game was very much a pay to win. You either bought the best cards or you lost... Wait a minute... Never mind Konami clearly has done an amazing job capturing the spirit of the original game. It is us that have foolishly not learned our lesson and not play it.
Bro is gonna get roasted but he's objectively right. I love a lot of the modern mechanics, but its how they all interact with each other that makes the game really toxic and unfun. It's got so little actual interaction.
I do have 2 deck lists from a few years ago where I am now going to replace the weak old cards with their powercrept version a d see how the deck performs against the old version or in general Deck 1 synchro pile 2009 Deck 2 Dragon Deck woth 3 BEWD
I liked the game until gx/ds era, before pendulum/link convoluted mess. Specially links, it was purposely changing traditional game mechanics to "stop flooding the field with special summons" only so you have to buy the new links so you flood the field even worse than before.
Something that would've helped this absurd power creep would've been if the game had set rotation. But introducing it now just means that it'll be stuck at the current power level

About HERO getting a ton of consistent support: it makes sense. HERO was the first main character deck to actually have a consistent archetype (Yugi just had a jumble of random monsters and spells, dont tell me he had a "dark magician" deck), which was played and expanded on through the four seasons of the GX show, and had character design and effects that made them very popular with their audience even if they hadnt been the protagonist's cards. This meant the deck had a large roster of about three synergising archetypes, and people who wanted those cards for themselves. And they got them! But they sucked. A core roster of normal monsters and hyper-specific fusions with low numbers or limited effects made bricking in an already speeding up card game basically an inevitable loss. So you have a ton of people who want to be in with a chance of winning but also want to play the funni hero deck... so the solution was at the time to release more KINDS of hero and change summoning mechanics. Here comes Masked HERO and the elemental support like Shadow Mist to get them on the board, or even weirder archetype mechanics like Vision heroes. Deck powered up, everyone's happy. Except... well, they ARENT actual E-Hero monsters... and people like those most! So you get generic fusions like Absolute Zero or Escuridao (one much better than the other) and even in more modern times retrains of classics, like Flame Wingman, and improved versions of them like shining neos wingman rather than shining flare wingman. Things also got even more generic with "Wake Up Your E-Hero" which literally just need a fusion and any number of monsters. Essentially its two different groups in one playerbase that want to be strong, one that's married to just Elemental Heroes and one that is happy to use any HERO. The second group is much stronger for it The current meta uses Vision, Destiny, Masked and Elemental heroes, with top players siding in a tiny Evil engine of Dark Calling, Adusted Gold and Malicious Bane. It remains fun to play because it doesnt rely on negating your opponent, instead buffing your monsters, and reducing the attack of your opponent using Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer. DPE is also essential for protecting against hand traps like Nibiru, because it pops itself and a Wake-Up to summon out Shadow Mist and resummon itself next turn, saving you from a board wipe. SS'ing Shadow Mist also adds a Mask Change which gets you a Dark Law. Another upside of playing HERO is that because to be strong you need so many engines/types of HERO, you just cant fit in any hand traps, so your opponent is allowed to play. Most meta hero players will run a single rivalry of warlords and dark ruler no more/forbidden droplet, and cant fit any more in without going well past 45 cards in the deck. All-in-all, I rate the archetype highly and think its much more fun to play against than current meta decks, and support for it is fine/warranted because its essentially like 6 different semi-linked archetypes now (Masked, Elemental, Destiny, Vision, Evil, Neos, Yubel)

Super Poly exist because season 3 of Yugioh and how powerful and Key for the plot of the season was and yes it was an unstoppable card. Thats why it exist. Maybe Super Poly shouldn't have ever made available for the OCG and TCG
Game legitimately was one of the best of its kind held back by some... unfortunate... enthusiasm But yeah, community is sick and fully of grinders, but movement update really did hit this game in the knees
Honestly alot of these complains are why I moved from standard to commander in mtg. I found the format getting faster and faster and more reptative, with commander (and the amazing table I play at) we all try to find cool shit to do.
when I was in the discord around 2 years ago, in the vc, I had said that I felt like Raymer (I think that's his name? gun guy)'s animations weren't that great, and I got some... heavy push back. But I had a lot of fun with the game, had some friends play, always hoped for the best for it overall. Nice to see more discussion about all these aspects

The reason everyone dropped Rushdown Revolt is because CAKO tried to integrate blockchain NFT stuff into the game, and nobody liked that.
Like genuinely the only reason they didn’t add them is because of community backlash, which they never recovered from.
@@emilyjones8713nah i mean that certainly put a stain on the game but it wasn't popping off before that anyway. The game had better numbers before it went into closed beta
A huge point to your interaction argument is the reason i moved over to mtg: theres a cost to negation, whether resource or opportunity. You CAN stack your deck with counterspells but theyre only useful if you have the mana to spend on your opponents turn, which means doing less stuff on YOUR turn. Same goes for combo decks, sure you can pop off and play 15 cards in one turn but if your opponent (or opponents in the case of commander) counters a key part of that strategy, you not only just burnt a ton of mana for nothing but now you dont even have mana for defensive spells. Outside of the most degenerate strategies there is a little bit of tension that doesnt boil down to an rng check.

To be fair, Yu-Gi-Oh! started being bad when FTKs and OTKs became a viable strategy. Doesn't stop me from enjoying my shitty little game, tho
it deservers for them to bring back the tech i made to be added with holding down before jumping to give u a jump in place with no residual momentum

I hope rush rev gets new traction soon It annoys me how platform fighters are seen as something that eventually fails, cuz even if that does happen, it should be considered that the genre can find new success, and I hope that a Platform fighter renaissance happens one day
