@GhibliNova I can understand the Strategy RPG tag, but to call them purely strategy games like some folk do, is false. Command and Conquer and Z are strategy games to me! 😂

@gameshack1985 don't mean to get in an argument but they are Strategy games 😅 Command and Conquer and the like are 'Real-Time' Strategy games, or RTS's

@@gameshack1985 Wikipedia says C&C is a 'Real Time' Strategy Game and Strategy/Tactics is used interchangeably. If not then there would be no reason to specify C&C as a 'real time' version of something that doesn't exist (i.e. plain Strategy game)

If you don't mind reduced clarity and colour quality then composite or RF cables will hide the mesh effect transparencies better, yes, simply due to the image being less clear.

@ I actually think that that’s what it was intended to be used with. Maybe give Virtual On a go as a side by side. I was positively surprised and prefer the composite view (actually by a lot). This could make an interesting video. If developers had known we would be viewing this with RBG or component, I think they would have opted for much less use of meshes.

@manueld885 The main reason mesh was used, to my knowledge, was due to the extreme difficulty to program full 3D transparency on the Saturn. If I remember rightly, it took 10x [maybe 100x, can't remember exactly!] the length of time on the Saturn in comparison to the Playstation, hence why nearly all 3D games on the Saturn use my worst enemy...the 'mesh effect' when they want transparency. As for doing a video of composite Vs rgb, I've though about this but my upscaler doesn't accept composite inputs so I'll have to have a think about it! To be fair, I'd probably do RF vs Composite vs RGB if I can pull it off!

@ yes - the mesh technique was in lieu of polygonal half-transparency thanks to the Saturn drawing quads instead of triangles. However, thanks to the “video degradation” effect that was also used on the genesis for transparency (background waterfall in Sonic 1), the mesh would appear blended and create a fully transparent effect when viewed via composite on a CRT. While meshes were a workaround, they were not meant to be noticed or seen. There’s a rgb v composite comparison video for virtual on - just have a look how much the picture and overall image changes for the better. And the cop car in virtual cop not only gains “full transparency” on its windows but even sports a gradient effect - only on composite. Using a good comb filter (retrotink etc) cleans up the composite image quite a bit - so you get the best of both. IMO

@Monkeymeep If you watch the follow up video, you'll see I ordered one more and it worked! And it's still working great now, thankfully!

Best Fighting game has to be Virtua Fighter 2 - what a masterpiece. The series has gone from strength to strength - the latest one is amazing but SEGA need to pull their finger out with a sequel. Wholeheartedly disagree with your Racing choice, Wipeout 2097's framerate was shocking - SEGA Rally is a masterpiece and Daytona CCE was a massive improvement over the botched release of the original game making it deserving of the runner-up spot.

@@Grandmastergav86 yeah VF2 looked superb think I slightly enjoyed Fighter Megamix a bit more; Last Bronx is fantastic graphically but I just couldn't get into it - Fighting Vipers also looked great

@richfan10 I personally found Last Bronx just felt a bit generic in its style. Without a doubt, my favourite three 3D fighters are VF 2, F. Megamix and Fighting Vipers so far!

@@gameshack1985 I got the chance to pick up DoA for my Japanese Saturn about a year ago that's really good but not a VF2 killer

I did use clips of other characters in there at points, but the main playthrough I did for capture was with Crusher. I just couldn't bring myself to play through the one player with multiple different characters as I didn't get any enjoyment from the game at all! 😅

It is simply so poor in comparison to other 2D fighters from this time, it's laughable really!

@@gameshack1985 I wouldn't necessarily seek them out. I'd advise watching a playthrough of Carrier (the gameplay wasn't great) purely due to the gloriously awful voice acting/story,. Blue Stinger is a game blighted by awful design decisions and control issues but I love it out of pure nostalgia. Honestly, if SEGA remastered it with a control update, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. It has one of the best/worst Christmas themes in gaming (there's one song you hear over and over and over again!).

I hope it wasn't too painful to watch! It certainly wasn't a very enjoyable game in my opinion! I did not think I would enjoy it less than Battle Monsters but I felt even that was a better experience overall than Rise 2! Thanks for watching!

@@gameshack1985 Haha not at all. Glad you took the time to have a shot and give your opinions. I think you were pretty spot on as well. PC version is pretty good though with some actual BG animation and even some light interactive elements like buzzsaws on the walls and blobs of vomit (don't ask) to avoid. Not sure what actually happened here as all of these elements would have worked fine in both Saturn and PS versions...

@gameshack1985 if you really want to enter the dank depths that is the nightmare world of Rise. I do have a complete moves list... Beware your descension into this pit though. That old movie In The Mouth of Madness comes to mind...

I did. Bought the PS1 version on release day for the full price, largely because I liked the first one. And I liked this one too. Though I have come to realise that I might have been the only one.
