Best Fighting game has to be Virtua Fighter 2 - what a masterpiece. The series has gone from strength to strength - the latest one is amazing but SEGA need to pull their finger out with a sequel. Wholeheartedly disagree with your Racing choice, Wipeout 2097's framerate was shocking - SEGA Rally is a masterpiece and Daytona CCE was a massive improvement over the botched release of the original game making it deserving of the runner-up spot.
@@Grandmastergav86 yeah VF2 looked superb think I slightly enjoyed Fighter Megamix a bit more; Last Bronx is fantastic graphically but I just couldn't get into it - Fighting Vipers also looked great
@richfan10 I personally found Last Bronx just felt a bit generic in its style. Without a doubt, my favourite three 3D fighters are VF 2, F. Megamix and Fighting Vipers so far!
Thanks for taking the time to put this together, always enjoy your reviews! By the way, you ever seen any of Carters Retro Reviews? I'd be curious to hear your takes on the golf games (of Saturn) versus his. Hell you guys should do some videos together, would be fun.
I'll have to look up that channel! Golf is one genre of games I am NOT looking forward to covering!! *EDIT* Just looked up his channel, seems he no longer makes videos!
And you can do another top 100 with another 100 killer games. The Saturn as a killer library and its failure in the West is mindblowing. 5 star video my friend!
This channel feels like the PAL version of segalordX channel Which is awesome as I’m British and it’s nice to have a fellow Brit represent this style of content
They are Strategy RPGs because battle takes place on a grid. As opposed to the menu-style turn-based system of traditional, RPGs. And I think Saga is the best 3D game on Saturn (best game overall imo) 😁
@GhibliNova I can understand the Strategy RPG tag, but to call them purely strategy games like some folk do, is false. Command and Conquer and Z are strategy games to me! 😂
@gameshack1985 don't mean to get in an argument but they are Strategy games 😅 Command and Conquer and the like are 'Real-Time' Strategy games, or RTS's
@@gameshack1985 Wikipedia says C&C is a 'Real Time' Strategy Game and Strategy/Tactics is used interchangeably. If not then there would be no reason to specify C&C as a 'real time' version of something that doesn't exist (i.e. plain Strategy game)
Given the constraints, it's fair to put Wipeout 2097 over SEGA Rally; but i'd personally flip them around because the better place to play Wipeout 2097 is on PSX and SEGA Rally is truly an iconic game for the System.
XL (NTSC-J) is significantly better than 2097 or XL (US). This one, yes, is above Sega Rally. The poor frame rate of 2097 makes it inferior to Sega Rally (any region), but XL J beats either.
But, did you check through my review list to see all the games I have covered so far? As this video was based purely on the first 100 games I have reviewed for the system, hence why there was no mention of games like Burning Rangers, Nights, Rayman, Need for Speed, strategy games and point and click games!
Super video! I wouldn't have put wipeout over Sega Rally the same way as in your previous video, i wouldnt put Moto Cross over Manx TT. I think the pick up and play nature of arcade games isnt rated highly by you... certainly not a criticism just an observation
@oldschoolsaturn7020 I'm not so sure, I love Virtua Cop and House of the Dead and Athlete Kings too! I knew the large majority would say Sega Rally though and I do still think it's great!
@TheTateful After playing Dragon Force, it would be very hard to class it as an RPG. It falls into the same area as Dark Savior in this regard, impossible to simply go "It's a so and so game". It has RPG elements, but I would say Dragon Force is more strategy than RPG.
@gameshack1985 maybe I'm just being nitpicky, but Strategy RPG is just a subgenre of RPG. The same logic you applied to Mystaria (TRPG) applies here, even if some of the RPG elements in Dragon Force are a little lighter. Might not hurt to differentiate RPG subcategories as you delve deeper into the Saturn's library, like Traditional RPG and Strategy/TRPG, kind of similar to how you handled the Fighting games, which I thought was a good touch. The Saturn had a relative wealth of great RPGs worth highlighting considering its somewhat limited library (with the exception of Albert Odyssey, which I maintain is a 4/10 title).
@TheTateful Once I cover all the PAL games I'll eventually do a complete best of. I hadn't covered enough to really break down every genre/sub-genre for this video. 😃
