I loved Primal Rage back then. It's so goofy, it's great! It is Not meant to be taken to seriously. I still enjoy it today. I was disappointed when the sequel was canceled. I didn't mind how the special moves were done.
@@SomeOrangeCatwell the sequel was cancelled when it was still halfway through development because Atari Games was purchased by Midway and they probably didn't like what they seen.
@@freddiejohnson6137From what I saw of a prototype for Primal Rage 2 it looked awful. The arcade version (the only version known to exist) used PlayStation hardware just like Namco arcade games from the mid ‘90s (Ridge Racer, TEKKEN, Soul Edge, etc.). It looked like it was done with claymation. All of the fighters had a human form which could transform into a dinosaur or beast sort of like Bloody Roar. It’s a horrible concept. Primal Rage is all about dinosaurs and beasts battling each other, not humans! I can see why it was cancelled. It just didn’t seem like a good way to go for Primal Rage.
@@gameshack1985 Well I like to use what I call The Wicker Man (Cage Edition) Directive. Go in with expectations low...so very very low. You might end up entertained for all the wrong reasons... ;)
I was never a big fan of Primal Rage I played the SNES version and it was released around the time of games like Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat 3 and Weapon Lord so even on there it was up against some stiff competition. I just felt the controls were needlessly complicated and that is saying something when Weapon Lord was also complicated compared to other games. I also feel that outside of a few fighting games like Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct western made ones tended to have gimmicky gameplay and tended to rely on digitised sprites in some way or the other at the time. It was almost as if western developers and publishers at the time felt that hand drawn sprites were too dated and they had to go for this method in the mid 90s
*Feel the RAGE! I imagine most people that played this back then probably played it on the SNES or Mega Drive!*

I think about 1.5 million people liked it back then so you were definitely not alone!
You'd think "Mortal Kombat with dinosaurs" would have been a home run.
@@SomeOrangeCat It was in terms of sales...over 1.5m copies sold apparently across all formats! 🥶🥴
It was lmao
@@gameshack1985 Yeah, but then it just kinda... stopped. No sequels can out. It was there and gone.

Awesome video man give you a like and full watch time keep it up
Loves it played the hell out of it at the bowling alley then saved my money bought it for snes. Long time ago.
@NYHeeb I think it was more impressive on Snes and Mega Drive than Saturn to be fair.

Great review!
Would love to hear your thoughts on Rise 2 Resurrection...
I'll be sharing my thoughts at some point in time so fear not!
@@gameshack1985 Thank you :) I really would like to see how you feel it fairs against Battle Monsters and Primal Rage...

@@freddiejohnson6137 It isn't a patch on Killer Instinct or MK for sure.
Hard disagree, this was amazing when it came out.
@jnrs9512 In what way? Did I miss something? It got quite poor reviews at the time, and I can see why.
