I did. Bought the PS1 version on release day for the full price, largely because I liked the first one. And I liked this one too. Though I have come to realise that I might have been the only one.
@hallowen It's great we aren't all the same! I know lots of people won't have the same thoughts as myself either on my upcoming video for this weekend!! 😂
The PC version's the only one worth playing. It's much higher resolution than the console versions, so I think it looks quite nice. The PC version also has background animations, though they are quite limited. I think part of the trouble with the console versions may have been the 256 colour sprites. Most fighting games used sprites with less colours, and I think they took up too much RAM. The Playstation version suffers the worst as it's pathetically low resolution, and the reduction in resolution wasn't done particularly gracefully.
I wanted this series to be good sooo bad... sigh! Only alteration of your review I would make is changing out Crusher as the player character from time to time. Thanks for the video in any case, it sure brought me back😃
I did use clips of other characters in there at points, but the main playthrough I did for capture was with Crusher. I just couldn't bring myself to play through the one player with multiple different characters as I didn't get any enjoyment from the game at all! 😅
I hope it wasn't too painful to watch! It certainly wasn't a very enjoyable game in my opinion! I did not think I would enjoy it less than Battle Monsters but I felt even that was a better experience overall than Rise 2! Thanks for watching!
@@gameshack1985 Haha not at all. Glad you took the time to have a shot and give your opinions. I think you were pretty spot on as well. PC version is pretty good though with some actual BG animation and even some light interactive elements like buzzsaws on the walls and blobs of vomit (don't ask) to avoid. Not sure what actually happened here as all of these elements would have worked fine in both Saturn and PS versions...
@gameshack1985 if you really want to enter the dank depths that is the nightmare world of Rise. I do have a complete moves list... Beware your descension into this pit though. That old movie In The Mouth of Madness comes to mind...
I paid $5 for this, new, when it was on clearance from the Walmart around where I lived. I grabbed it and SEGA Rally (also $5) because I wanted some new games to play on my Saturn. Needless to say, SEGA Rally got a lot more play time.
I played the original on the SNES and came away thinking it some how came across as looking both excellent and awful at the same time. The quality of assets seemed all over the place and by the looks of it they didn't learn anything in the sequel. It really was all hype for the original to the point where they got all magazines writing amazing previews for it even Edge magazine. Quite how they thought making a sequel with little to know improvements but now looking outdated in comparison to what was being released is beyond me. They obviously figured it would sell on the hype that the original had for some reason despite it being long gone and everyone knowing it was a bad game at that point.
I bought Rise Of The Robots on Megadrive for £10 at Woolworths lmao. I was sold on the graphics...it was awful. I know Brian May provided the soundtrack , can't remember how good or bad that was though.
I played the original Rise of the Robots on the SNES and yea, it was terrible. It was an over hyped and underwhelming. So I never played the sequel because of that. But I gathered that Rise 2 was a little better than the first game, but that wasn't saying much.
Even shinobi x or Johnny Bazooka tone and GEX have more color palette than this one the Saturn can do much better stuff than that on 2D game using pre rendering 3D sprite. You must look at Capcom and SNK 2D handraw game it put this thing to misery.
*Surely no-one here bought this full-price upon release?? If you did....I feel for you...*
I got the PC version out of a $5.00 clearance bin.
@SomeOrangeCat Well it beats paying full price!! 😁
@@gameshack1985 That that same Hastings I also bought Alien Trilogy for the PC for $5.00. That was a MUCH better deal.

@@Silanda I felt the colour on the Saturn version at least was pretty washed out.
@@gameshack1985 Yeah. Something's wrong with the black level.

@@gameshack1985 I think I get your point, no need to expose oneself too much to crap product!
Meanwhile on the PC we had a game called One Must Fall 2097, a robot fighting game that is worlds better than either of the Rise of the Robots games.
I now must look this game up!! Thanks
@@gameshack1985 Its freeware now too. OMF is everything Rise of the Robots isnt'.
Awesome review man! Really enjoyed watching it!
Dropped you a like! Take care! 🐺🎮
@@doilupi Thanks!

@GlennStubberfield I tried so hard to figure out more executions too, but couldn't even find a guide online for them!

WTF there was a Rise of the Robots 2 ?
@sheldoncooper8199 oh yes, there sure was!
fun fact: I've never played any of these games; but I heard all about them ;)
You are lucky then! 😂
I rented this back in the day, I'll say its better than the original but that's it

It is simply so poor in comparison to other 2D fighters from this time, it's laughable really!

Thank the lord, I've never played the first game!
@@gameshack1985Just don't lol a few years later I bought Saturn Doom...that port was atrocious.
@Grandmastergav86 I'm gonna have to review it now at some point..😂 I'll be covering Doom when I can put myself through it....
yeah the game had so much bad press after release I'm surprised they went for another try
Only the riff at the title screen. Nothing else.

Horrible game, but it is at least a clear improvement over the original.
