*Deep Fear or Resident Evil, which do you prefer on the Saturn and why?* I can't believe I have now covered 100 Saturn games in my review series! Thank you to everyone who has watched, and continues to watch, like and comment videos that I upload!
I really like Deep Fear, I find it technically superior to Resident Evil, but I prefer the "haunted mansion" atmosphere of Capcom's game. Still, being able to use your weapon while moving and being able to dodge really adds something interesting to the gameplay, I think it's the first survival to offer that. Anyway, it's not in my top 10 (Resident Evil isn't there either)
Just watched the Dungeon Chill review of this game last week. But your review is really making me want to figure out a way to play this. I was a huge fan of the 90's Survivor Horror era but I never had a Saturn. My experience was only limited to the Playstation.
Great review. I've had my eye on this since it released, but i ended up picking up resident evil 2 on PS1 at the time and the price of this now is out of my price range. My try and pick up a repro and play through it.
I played through this for the first time earlier this year. It's the most expensive game I've ever bought and thankfully with that in mind, I wasn't disappointed. It could have done with a few more puzzles as I think there was only one in the whole game, enjoyed the enemy design though and the cast of characters as well as the unique location. One other thing to mention is that I wish the option to add subtitles would have been included. For me, whenever a cut scene played that used the in-game graphics (not the FMV), the dialogue was tough to hear as my disc/console became really noisy during these sections, happened every time. Another odd thing, from what I can recall with a couple of the tapes I picked up, when played, they just offered a few seconds of silent video footage which didn't seem to make any sense? Not sure if this was just an issue with my copy of the game (as the noisy cutscenes probably were) or a problem with the title as a whole.
@theslasherspotlight81 the VCR tapes were just silent footage....not very exciting! I found the sound fine though, but I played it via my Satiator and not the disc!
My preferred rom site had the unreleased US version of the game. So if you really want to be able to play the game in English, and enjoy 60hz, the option exists.
I remember getting this for my Hi-Saturn back around early 2000s. I had the issue of Sega Saturn magazine which featured this and Shining Force 3. Good times.
this is a game i always liked. the tank control movement is very impressive how you can move and shoot easily. kinda surprised that many other games in this style that came after never took notes from them.
I always wanted this game, never saw it in the wild at the time. My consolation was that I did find two beautiful cheesefests for Dreamcast several years later- Carrier and Blue Stinger lol. They're not connected to this game in any way admittedly.
@@gameshack1985 I wouldn't necessarily seek them out. I'd advise watching a playthrough of Carrier (the gameplay wasn't great) purely due to the gloriously awful voice acting/story,. Blue Stinger is a game blighted by awful design decisions and control issues but I love it out of pure nostalgia. Honestly, if SEGA remastered it with a control update, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. It has one of the best/worst Christmas themes in gaming (there's one song you hear over and over and over again!).
I really enjoyed this at the time it was definitely a poor man Resident Evil clone but I remember getting this when it came out, and as a Saturn owner in late 1998 it was pretty slim pickings but 98 was a great year looking back (Panzer Dragoon Saga, Burning Rangers, Shining Force 3 and this). I played it recently as I got a Japanese copy and it's not aged well > compared to Resident Evil (1) on Saturn it really paled in comparison (having gone thru that again this summer). overall I liked it for the time > found it really creepy as well
@@gameshack1985 ah really? replaying ResEvil on Saturn few months ago I was still impressed how good it was > but yeah I did like Deep Fear overall I found the ending really bitter sweet (in a good way) plus the main character 'sneezing' a good little nod to the overall story :)

Anything made with the target hardware in mind is gonna fare better than a mere port.

@ciredecgellar8232 Well, there's no guarantee it will be in mine when I've reviewed the other 100+ PAL games released! 😅
Top game for the Saturn. Loved every minute of it.

@broissey It's a really good game, worth playing in some way!
This game looks great! Glad I found your channel, love how you break everything down.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great game, I would say even on PAR with Resident Evil. This probably would have been a hit, if it wasn't a Saturn only late release.
@@CasperEgas indeed, had it been on psone, it would have sold loads!
Awesome review! +1 LIKE from us 👏 Have a nice journey on TH-cam! ✌🐺

@SomeOrangeCat yeah, I did see...after I'd played the PAL version lol.
@@gameshack1985 Its wild that they wouldn't release a finished game, but Sega of America was a joke by the late 90s.

Was too easy from memory. dubois was hilarious too.
Yeah, infinite ammo and health sprays will have that effect on a game! 😅
