*There is so much copyright FMV and music in this game it's mad! And to cap it off, the FMV sequences within this game are banned in so many countries!!* Anyone think WCW Mayhem was actually a great game?
As you mentioned in a comment, I think a lot of the reason that some of the wrestlers did not have their original theme song was WCW was using a lot of music that was public domain. For example. The Harlem heat theme song or what became Booker t's theme song existed before Booker t was part of WCW. It was a public domain song that had been used in sitcoms and many, many other things. So it is likely that since it sat its public domain, there may have been an issue having it permanently attached to the game or something along those lines
It could be a reason for that one, but so many of the wrestlers who had music created by WCW did not have their themes either so it really baffled me! Bret Hart has always been my favourite wrestler and for him to not have his entrance music from WCW was criminal in my eyes! 😅
There was definitely some promise with Mayhem. It definitely nailed it with presentation for the most part. The animation and how slow it plays actually ruin anything promising about it though. It did aim to copy the controls of the AKI games though as on the N64 version the controls were pretty much identical in terms of layout for the most part. It does show promise as I said and they definitely could have built on it if they didn't go down hill just like WCW at the time and do something crazy that made no sense.
The textures and details on the wrestler's faces and ring attires were probably the best on the PSone to be fair, but the clunkiness of the controls just zapped the enjoyment out of the game for me!
I was with you until you put it below Thunder. This game is absolutely no Revenge, World Tour or even WCW vs. The World, but in no way is it worse than Nitro and Thunder. Not a game with a ton of replayability, but I'd rather play this over Nitro/Thunder any day.
@TheViper4Life The reason put Thunder above it was for move animations and the fact I can get the matches over quicker in Thunder! Oh, and the rants.... and the insane roster... Of course, Mayhem had a create a wrestler and a longer lasting 1 player mode though.
