It was a really good week money wise, remind you tho, that is gross..not net. I’m thinking about making some informative videos like insurance, gross vs net, etc when I come back. So don’t leave me! I’ll be back, just can’t make social me...

Convert the backseat into a bed or your passenger side from front to back into a bed so you can sleep in get a fuel card so you can have showers at gas stations and get a gym membership to be able to shower. It should only take you $100a week for food then you’ll see your profit rise calculate everything before you take a load
Awesome video my brother. I followed you step by step and it worked like a charm. Thanks!
Couldn't hear the video very well because of the loud annoying background music...
@@kevinroe5857 parts you can’t hear are due to recording off the phone. Was pretty new to recording. Much better at it now
Very nice setup Tavis! Thursday I left RC with a dry van recovery load to northern Idaho, picked up a full load in Spokane to Scottsbluff, and a load of wood back home to RC. My 85 FLC did great, and grossed a little over 6K in three days and 2200 miles, which is hard to do this year. Interested too see how well this goes for you. ~Rob~
@@adventuresofrob5989 thank you Rob and good to hear things are going well for you too! 🙏🏼

You should find some time to do a few accounting basic classes. It helped me with my small business. I only say that because you are describe cash method accounting, which is normal for a business like you have. You still want to keep inventory of your balance sheet though because technically, accounts receivable is still an asset and is important to know how to figure for future capital you may need
Man I enjoy the videos and following your journey, but one piece of advice don't smack on gum while your talking and recording.
@@B2the4th yeah I seem to put gum in my mouth at the wrong time but if I ever have gum in it’s to stay awake haha
Is 2014 to old? saving up for a truck now any advice will help
@@Undefeatedatoutwittingcons oh no you can run even older
@truckertavis really everyone keeps telling me get no older than 2017
@@Undefeatedatoutwittingcons I don’t know the reason behind it but I’d rather run an older truck with a manual. The newer ones with the auto have a lot of issues from what I’ve heard and seen
Hey buddy, I'm in federal way right now. If you need anything let me know, I'm here until Monday when I need to get my truck looked at. Us wyo boys need to stick together.
Ay! Just a few miles away. Where you delivering at? And same here. #307
Congrats on forst load. Was also wondering does dot mess with the truck with the tires sticking out that far? I know one of the video they said something about it and to the tint on from window. But was curious
@@honda1396 thank you! And no I’ve been complimented more by DOT for a nice looking truck. It’s Utah that hates me. Where I always get pulled over. But it’s also only certain officers. One time an Utah officer said it was all violations but said he wasn’t that type because he didn’t see the point.
@truckertavis is it a out of service or a fine in your case with Utah? Reason why is I have a 04 ram 3500 drw I wanna put my spacers back on but didn't want a big out of service for it. I'll pay the ticket.
@@honda1396it’s just a violation but I didn’t get a ticket. I’d run em if I were you if that’s what you wanna do
Congratulations! Did I miss a video or two on why you switched?.. or just a quick business decision?.. I get it
@@jbsanger696 thank you! And no you didn’t miss anything just a goal of mine since I’ve been in the industry. This was also cheaper than a hotshot setup
Very cool. Congratulations!
@@mikedemarsh2153 thank you!!
Yooooooo, turned your back on the hotshot gang to join the big rig mafia😁😁. Congrats my guy. Hope I get to see you the road one of these days!!
Hate to do it but I had to 😂 appreciate it! And I hope so too! Tag me if you ever do or come say hi! 🤜🏼🤛🏼
Curious if you'll service the reefer so its good to go when you need to use it. I think I'd keep spare fuel filters for IT and the truck engine onboard just in case. My friend Jennifer that I mentioned before has had a lot of trouble with the reefer trailers that she LEASES but when theres trouble she usually fixes them herself. I have the impression that the company she leases them from doesn't maintain them very well...
@@richardbarkley9909 yeah it’ll definitely be something I wanna do myself unless it’s something major I can’t do like a catastrophic failure. But I plan on doing majority of all my maintenance on both truck and trailer
Good stuff Tavis!! Congrats on your first load in your semi!! Travel safe always!
Thank you Richard 🙏🏼
Why did you not place your dashcam in the upper center of your windshield?
Gonna get a drop visor so it would have blocked the camera
Dude this is so awesome to watch you grow like this. You’re smart and making the right moves. Love both trucks man great set ups. Ole Pete does need that grass burner
Thank you 🙏🏼🥹 and I agree, the current stack is an eye sore. Lots of upgrades coming Casper’s way
I say Bravo Tavis!! I have a friend (female) who has been driving for about 20 years and she has her own small fleet or 4 trucks now leased to a company and all they do is reefer. She says she does very well.
@@richardbarkley9909 thank you!! Yeah I think it’ll be a blessing! The region I’m in should do well with a reefer
No more hotshoting why? You went trough worst already
Goal is to grow and has always been to own a semi
No more hotshot my guy? 😭
Trailer needs a thorough cleaning ….some paint in spots and definitely some rim polishing…..dont be a dirtball like some of these you tube truckers …..keep truck and trailer clean please ….it only benefits you and your buisness
@@kirktitgen2309 oh definitely, trust me a lot needs done on both truck and trailer. Gotta keep my professionalism and that means a solid looking truck/trailer. I’ve been learning to polish so it’ll all look good.
Congrats man! Love the setup
@@jarich1991 thank you!
U going to hire someone on the hotshot set up now?? Or u just going to run both whenever u can?
@@Avankaurparmar I’m considering it. I have a few things to get fixed on the truck before it hits the road again. I’m debating on keeping it or selling it. Idk if I want a CDL setup if I hire someone. Got a lot to think and pray on
Not to mention the over head and all the maintenance you will have now
So how did u go from a non cdl single wheel trk n trl to a semi pulling a refer? Doesn't make ?? All you're customers u have made and you start over?? Why not a step deck ?
@@chrisnichols8847 almost 10 years in the industry I’ve gained a lot of knowledge with all the different types of freight I’ve hauled. Reefer is king in my region. I’ve only been at this 7 months so I haven’t gained a whole lot of customers but the ones that use me are aware I’m out of my hotshot. They are waiting on me to get a flatbed and if an emergency comes up and they need me I can rent one for a month. Already have plans setup for it. Regarding customers for the reefer, like I said, been at this long enough I know the customers for reefers all ready and who I’ve ran for before. Maintenance is irrelevant, plenty of maintenance in any setup. The beautiful thing about a reefer can is I can run dry van loads and reefer loads so my reefer won’t run all the time. It’s just the name of the game in trucking. Maintenance and over head time. “Hurry up and wait” is the trucking motto regardless of what setup you’re in
Man I’m really happy for you!! Nice upgrade, and what a curveball too lol. I thought for sure step deck, but there’s some good money with a 53’ reefer too and that’s a fact!! Congratulations man!!!
@@Blue_Sky_Hotshots thanks man! Yeah I definitely threw everyone off haha I want a step deck eventually for all the customers I gained but out here in the west reefers make good money and I’m glad you know that 👌🏼 thanks again man!!
Yeah boss get some🇺🇲💯👍🚛

God is good indeed my friend! Curious to hear how you are doing now that you've been in the game for 6+ months. Feeling encouraged? Discouraged?
What size lift on that truck bro? Also never seen a hot shot truck with that much negative offset wheels before so curious how often you end up doing wheel bearings lol? Safe travel to you 🙂
@@Powerstroke431 6” lift and no wheel bearings yet, had a u-joint go out and a hub so far. It made a lot of Alaska trips so not to sure if those rough roads did anything
God came in clutch with fuel!!
@@Hailking49 He really did! I was so thankful!
Awesome stuff. Don't know if I should keep the straps on the winches or roll them up each time. What are your pros and cons?
@@RickAnderson-yf4pr I’d recommend keeping them on the trailer during summer season. Don’t gotta roll them up and it’ll free up space in the box
Do dispatch yourself?
Yes I do
Devils tower 👍
Yes sir!
Man they sold you a trailer without a spare tire? That's ridiculous!
I optioned out of it to get one cheaper on my own
Howdy. Ya do Hotshot as a non-CDL and the semi?
That is correct
You have a CDL, but prefer to do non-CDL work, is this accurate?
@@stumplogisticsllc I do non-CDL work cause it’s the setup I have. I didn’t want to spend money on another truck when I already had one
Good stuff. :)
Thanks!
Super hype for you bro saved yourself a boatload of money not giving the stealership your money to just throw parts at it
How long is your trailer? 40’ or?
35’
Do you recommend having 4x4 lumber as well? Just trailer width? How many? Also I know you’ve had some issues with your trailer along the way. What make, size would you recommend for someone starting out on a budget? Also do you prefer gooseneck over 5th wheel setup? Sorry for so many questions. Thanks Tavis
I didn’t get any starting out. I got them overtime from loads. Some loads required dunnage but when I got there they said they had the dunnage to give me. Yeah I’ve had a few issues but I’m finding out my brake controller is due to a short in my truck. I would recommend Diamond C all day over any other ones. I’m bias tho. You can get a nice non CDL trailer for like $16k brand new. When I was getting quotes my diamond c was cheaper than any other brand with my add ons. If I had a CDL truck I would have done The gooseneck step deck from Diamond c(might be my next setup tbh)
Good job brother! Better than a new turbo, actuator, and all the labor costs. Hard to find a good honest reputable shop anymore. I’ve enjoyed all your videos. I appreciate that you’re a good God fearing Christian that keeps it real and doesn’t over exaggerate with all the highs without the lows like majority of the channels on here. God is good! Keep the faith and God Bless you and your family. Romey
Hi. Enjoy your videos. How much you make net on the Alaskan run, how many miles? Thanks and God Bless!
I lost money because I had tire and wheel issues unexpectedly and my back hauls cancelled on me. Coulda made $8k net
correct the spelling on the title my man it surpose to be started 🙂
Thank you for letting me know! Fixed it
Really appreciate your videos, especially this videos sir. I'm going to be starting out hotshot like the previous viewer, I'm just now getting my business up an going (the foundation of the business). Thank you an I'm a subscriber to your channel I'd thought i would throw that in there lol. Have a wonderful evening.
Thank you for subbing and I’m glad the videos are helping! :)
What factoring company do you suggest?
I haven’t used anyone but RTS and they’ve done pretty good. I’ve heard sketchy things about Truck Stop
Appreciate the video bud! Do you ever have problems with your tarps getting taken when you over night at truck stops? My only concern with my tarps
Welcome! And so far nobody has bugged me or attempted to steal them. I would like a better location due to that
@truckertavis That's good man and hopefully it stays that way. I did a securement class with Macc a few weeks ago. I'm from San Antonio, Tx. I've heard in Houston of hotshot guys getting their tarps ripped off over night. I don't have any where else for my tarps to go except how yours are. I should be up and running on my own beginning of July.
