Robertson is King
If unable to find "pocket hole" screws, round washer head particle board screws are identical. They're often cheaper/easier to find than brand specific pocket hole screws.
I had to copy your video to my HD to watch it without obnoxious TH-cam ads. After that, it was a great video.
Pocket giles are very week never dun them at all
Not true. I’ve used them to build tables and the stretchers on the side table I built can hold my entire body weight. Depends on the use for them as they won’t be as strong as mortice and tennon for example but a lot of joints don’t need that level of strength.
Love your attitude, Mate.
Excellent video. I really enjoyed your format. No BS, some humor and great encompassing info. Sub'd and looking forward to diving into your library for more.
Thank you!
360p!
Is it "old school" or the difference between a professional and a hobbyist? In North America, the AWI / WI / NAAWS standards allow only four joinery methods for drawers. (Dowels, Biscuits, Lock Shoulder & Standard Dovetail) If an Architect finds out you've "cheated" the spec, he or she can have you replace the affected items it at your own cost.
I’d agree between the hobbyist and professional. Unfortunately a lot of people who do it as a hobby think that everyone else should do it the professional way regardless of skill or requirements. The beauty of doing it as a hobby is that there are no strict rights or wrongs.
Excellent video - thanks!
The first lesson. Learn to spell. Miter not mitre.
I’m assuming you’re from the USA Bob? In the UK we spell it Mitre so I wrote it in my native tongue. Just one of the many little differences between UK and USA spellings like colour vs color etc
@lionandbear I've worked with a lot of UK guys over the years. Thought I knew most of the differences.Miter/mitre never came up. I watch a lot of Peter Sellers videos. Always amazed at the precision he achieves without power tools. Maybe even more than is possible with power tools.
Mitre is one that I’ve noticed a lot on the spelling but it’s not always something you see written down. Every day’s a school day and I love that we have this international reach where we can all learn from each other. Peter is a legend for sure and I agree, he can do more with hand tools than I could ever dream of doing with ANY tools!
@lionandbear Seems like when he sharpens his plane blades, first he sharpens to the point they can shave hair, and then the serious sharpening starts. Wish I could do just that one thing.
Hey man just wanted to say, I don't need a lot of woodworking videos (I don't do projects very often) but I did like AND subscribe because your video was 3 things that I absolutely need in every video: quick, witty, and well done. Twelve mins is kind of long but it flew by because of the other 2. Thanks!
Thank you so much for your kind words and for subscribing, it means a lot to me. I’m working on another video that hopefully will be fun and it’ll definitely be quick judging by how it’s looking so far 😂
Do you have a link to the plug cutter you had in your video?
Sorry, I thought I’d put it in the description. I’ll do it now but here’s the link: amzn.to/3PniI3X. It’s not cheap but it does a great job. My only advice is to drill nice and slowly rather than fast and you’ll get really neat plugs.
My husband used these plans from WoodPrix and he's very satisfied.
Please show cat going thru.
Pocketholes are great for assembling "decorative" stuff. But if you require actual structural strength, like for example a bed frame, you're much better off using proper joints with a good glue.
I really enjoy plans from WoodPrix.
Unfortunately CA glue is very brittle and expensive
Yes it’s definitely not a real alternative but could be used in a pinch and depending on the project I would have confidence it would hold up but I agree that it’s expensive and not suitable for most things.
Wow. Very well done project and explanation of all the steps.
Thanks. It’s a great beginner project
Great video. Loads of tips
You left a lot of information of basic pocket hole joinery OUT of this video. You're a real jerk.
Thanks for your constructive feedback 🙄
So much good information and tips in one video.. rarely comment on videos but had to say. Subbed
Thank you so much!
Well done video. Thanks.
I heard about WoodPrix instructions good opinions.
Just go buy a Castle TSM-12. Lower angle, better holding, 10 times faster, and no, I have nothing to do with Castle, but I do own a TSM-12 and a TSM-30.
I’ve seen the castle machines and they look amazing but aren’t readily available in the UK and even if they are, £1,800 for the TSM-12 vs £140 for the kreg 720 is a big difference. Especially for hobbyists.
Yeah, just drop $1,800 for the Castle. Sure, Thurston Howell. 🙄
Hello! You make it look so easy…. Is it straight forward to fit once you’ve cut the area to fit the cat flap? Do I need a drill to fit the cat flap together?
It genuinely is easy. The scariest thing is making that first cut. You can probably just screw the screw straight through without pre-drilling but I would recommend using a drill as it will make it a lot easier and more accurate. You’ll also avoid potentially blowing out the wood and damaging the door beyond what the cat flap would cover.
Thank you! To hold the cat flap in place will a screw driver do?
@jenb8060 it will absolutely do it but it’ll be harder as I mentioned above.
Thank you for your help!
I wish I bought the pair
I'll stick with the Robertson drive, they've been around over a hundred years. Been using them since I was a kid. I worked at a Ford dealership in the late 60's and first noticed Torx screws starting to show up. Problem now is Textron has at least 4 different Torx designs (maybe 5) and the drivers don't all interchange. To add to the may-lay, I understand a German company has come up with a new Torx design. Don't be surprised if you don't have a driver for your next bag of Torx screws.
How is this a review fool, more like an unboxing a product. You didn't even demonstrate its worth. Just said it was the best. You sound more like salesman than someone who actually does projects. Quit playing
My wife used these plans from WoodPrix and she's very satisfied.
Lol you're great. Thanks
I bought plans from WoodPrix and I made it very fast.
You can use WoodPrix instructions to build it in the cheapest way.
Great video , no time wasting and good points made , I’ve subscribed!
Thank you!
This is so informative 👏🏽 👌 🇿🇲, thanks.
Thank you
Nice Handy wee projects. More like this please Ben mate 👍🏴
Thanks mate
Where can I get those "screws in a bag"?
😂 I got mine from Trend but the great thing is that you can even make your own at home. All you need is screws and a bag 😂
Great projects Ben!
Thanks mate!
I've found great e-book on woodprix. Good solutions for everyone I think.
Hi pal. Enjoyed the video. What make is your Brad nailer? In the market for one? Cheers again 👍
Thanks mate. It’s from Lumberjack tools. Here’s the video I did on it th-cam.com/video/zVIu3g2vLeE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=R0w-TPO-bSSa6h50 I’ve got a discount code with them too on their website. Use code LIONANDBEAR for money off if you decide to buy one.
@ thank you.
I have always used everbuild 502 and it's never failed me once weatherproof and quick curing and reasonably cheap too can't complain
Cracking job mate like them may have to look at making a few of them. Struggling with Christmas sales so maybe these are the answer 🤷👍🏴
Thanks mate, appreciate it. It’s always tricky to know what to make that’ll sell so doesn’t hurt to try a few different ideas.
@@lionandbear absaloutley mate that and if doesn't sell don't end up with piles of stuff that you can't shift 😕🏴👍
Haha, you must be telepathic with your remark about shooting a Brad nail, into your fingers…. I was making this exact same project yesterday, but slightly bigger. My timber was 24mm thick, so my 45mm brad nails worked a treat for joining 2 pieces together….. that is until I got to join the top triangle, forgot about the angles involved, and fired the nail straight through, and also into my finger by 3mm 😂😂. No real damage, but made me laugh out loud when I watched your vid! New viewer here - keep up the great content :)

Oh wow! Close call then 🙈 I’m paranoid that I’ll fire into a finger at some point as they can take on a mind of their own when you fire them in! Thanks for the kind words and I’ll do my best to keep up the content levels! I’m improving with every video so fingers crossed I can keep going
What glue is that you're using for the Christmas tree?
It’s a brand called Cascamite. It’s a powdered resin glue that comes in powder form that you then mix with water. They sponsored a couple of my videos. It’s really good stuff and can be mixed up as/when you need it but can be a bit of a pain to do compared to normal PVA glue so it depends on what works best for you. Check out my Dining Table build if you want to see a bit more about it. th-cam.com/video/UvyAGkuPz2Q/w-d-xo.htmlsi=dRc2ekrLSSmPnXzz
@@lionandbear Thanks for the reply, I wondered if it was cascamite because of the transluscent wallpaper paste appearance. I'll check out the dining table later, I'm supposed to be out in the garedn now 🙂
I wish I had a planer. A jointer would be nice as well, but there are some easy ways around not having a jointer. Oh, and it's always exciting to shoot a nail through one's finger. As for Christmas projects, I like the ones you've featured here. I want to build a few and see if I can sell them. The cord wrapping piece is neat as well! Thanks for sharing.
From my experience a planer/Thicknesser will get you more value than a jointer or combo machine to be honest. It’s surprising how handy that cord organiser is!
@@lionandbear - I agree. I think I'd get MUCH more bang for the buck from a planer. Jointing can be done quite easily on my table saw with a jig.
