Brilliant, someone after my own heart using recycled timber, it's amazing to me that folk throw out furniture made from decent hard and softwood and buy cheap MDF junk to replace it. I never buy timber I am always on the scrounge for old furniture/bits of timber etc. I don't waste anything, even tiny scraps are saved and burnt on our open fireplaces in winter and wood shaving go in the compost bins. I wish my workshop was as neat and tidy as yours but over many years I have collected so many old tools and machines that I never have enough room. I am no wood expert but at a glance it looks like Oak you are using in the video. I can tell certain woods by the aroma they give off especially Oak and Elm. ( I remember the smell of Elm as I used to help machine Elm wood to make coffins. (60 years ago) Thanks for another interesting nicely filmed video.
Thanks. I totally agree, partly because I’m a skinflint and partly because I hate waste Ill often use salvaged wood. All the hardwood I have is salvaged and it pains me to see how many people just throw it away. My dad and I recently salvaged a full staircase of sepele as the builders were going to burn it all! Crazy! I’m quite strict with what I keep and don’t keep in my workshop and try to have a clear out once per year to keep on top of the junk and ‘just in case items’ that I never actually use 😂
Nice build. Thanks for the lay-out tips. My sole source of wood is recycled timber. I'm pretty sure we are using the same brand metal detector. Take care & stay safe.
It certainly looks like oak, possibly quarter sawn. That is the process that produces “tiger oak”, but I think that it very much depends on luck on the thickness and quality of the tiger stripes. The dark stained finish before you planed it, looks so typical of English Oak furniture prior to WW2. I totally agree keep all solid hardwood for reuse. 😀🇬🇧
Thanks mate, I’m rubbish at identifying wood. Definitely doesn’t help that I’m colourblind too! It’s a great feeling recycling stuff that would normally go on the burn pile in the wrong hands. Thanks for the comment!

Being a 'scrimper' I have sheds full of stuff that will come in handy some day, some of it I have had since I was a young lad!
Nice work 👏

Yeah it’s a neat little metal detector. I love using recycled timber!

Tiger oak ?
Hmm, I’ve just done a Google search for it and I think the grain pattern might be too tight on this stuff perhaps but it could be.
