Just here to share the journey of solo, nomadic truck camper life!
Back in 2021, I decided to chase a long-time dream of living on the road, out of my Toyota Tacoma, SOLO! I quit the 9-5 job, I sold the things, and set my sails for the road ahead. A lot has happened since then, including the building of a custom flatbed camper on the back of my Tacoma.
Thank you for being here and supporting my work!

Camping At A 100 YEAR OLD Dam | Solo Camp & Cook | Relax Cozy Campfire ASMR
Construction of this multi-arch, buttress dam began in 1919 and was finished in 1923. The dam stands at 92 feet high by 1,700 feet wide, constructed of reinforced concrete. Over the century, the consequences of constant exposure to the harsh elements, including freeze-and-thaw events, has led to the slow deterioration of the dam. When irrigators explored the cost of rebuilding the dam, the estimate ranged from $11 to $20 million. Due to its growing instability, in 2005 the DWR ordered a larger spillway to be cut into the side of the dam in order to keep the maximum water level from rising too high. In 2007, the Association of Dam Safety released a list of 14 dams in the state that are considered to be structurally deficient. This particular one was identified as one of the four highest-hazard dams. By 2009, the dam was only holding back 5,500 acre-feet, with levels rising no higher than 69.2 feet, compared to the 12,743 acre-feet and rising height of 88 feet that it once held. Sadly its pending failure seems inevitable, as the cost to repair it only rises and time continues to take its relentless toll on the dam.
I am immensely grateful that I was able to experience camping beside this beautiful structure while it still stands, and enjoy - without a doubt - one of most memorable campfires I've ever had.

CRACKED Flexplate In My Tacoma! Did dealership's prior work cause it?
มุมมอง 3.9Kปีที่แล้ว
It's not very often that a Flexplate cracks, let alone in several places. Unless of course, there was prior transmission work done from a Toyota Dealership and all signs certainly suggest a bit of installation negligence. But of course, we can only prove so much. This was, quite literally, a ticking time-bomb that was well on it's way to catastrophic failure. My deepest thank you to Geoffrey fo...

Disheartening turn of events this week..
มุมมอง 8Kปีที่แล้ว
The last mile is the hardest... We are SO close to being finished and yet snag after snag is appearing. It's taken a real blow to my spirits. Worry.. fear... doubt... it certainly is getting to me. I desire nothing more than to be finished and yet we can't seem to quite get there. Frustrating and discouraging for sure. It'll be worth it right? That's what I keep telling myself. But this week.. ...
I can't believe this is happening!
มุมมอง 7Kปีที่แล้ว
The camper cabinets are DONE. Woohoo! BUT... unfortunately it was such a mad week that I completely dropped the ball on filming the finished buildout before we removed several panels and sent a couple things to powder coat. Now it looks unfinished yet again. Fear not - I will show you all very soon. In the meantime, I had a rather fun announcement to share. Will I see you there?? → If you love ...
NOW the camper is starting to feel like HOME.
มุมมอง 6Kปีที่แล้ว
It's pretty darn amazing how just a few panels has completely changed this camper! Yes, the trade-off to that is that there is some additional weight with all of the plywood. But admittedly, it's the trade-off I chose to make. With living in this full-time, I wanted it to feel incredibly welcoming. I wanted it to feel like home. We are all on our way to accomplishing that goal. The walnut facin...
We stole this idea from VAN builds! DIY Interior
มุมมอง 6Kปีที่แล้ว
A lot of van builds use a similar method for paneling the interior walls. Structural base (usually plywood but we used corrugated plastic sheets) , foam (we used 1/8") , and fabric. Rivnuts or tapping holes works for mounting the panels. → If you love what I'm doing and want to support, consider becoming a Patreon: patreon.com/badassbrunette → Join me on Instagram: @BadassBrunette instagram.com...

I use adhesion promoter which is made for 3m VHB. You will not get them apart when that is used
Love this, aluminum is the way to go. I’m about to go fully custom with a wide lots of angles box on top of my flatbed so seeing this really helps me with design ideas. I’m a big fan of pre fab smaller parts and then bringing it all together plus I’m learning it’s easier to build for the product rather than find the product for the build if that makes any sense. Good on you.
Nice
Sheesh you’re cute af😊
Great video!
Need more !!! Great content
I'm not sure its the right procedure to check for enough travel. You need to let the over wheel go all the way down also - when it happens the right wheel will keep going up because the axle can be seen as a lever fixed and rotated around the righthand axle mount
The problem with DIY folks using VHB tape for adhering things is that many DIY folks fail to prep the surface properly. I've seen them using the tape while doing virtually no surface prep whatsoever and also failing to follow the very specific instructions provided by 3M. Applied to dirty skoolie roofs with sketchy paint jobs, for example. No, I do NOT want to be following that thing down the highway, thanks. The examples of the commercial uses of these tapes shows that they certainly CAN perform under tough conditions but you can bet that the tapes were used with extreme caution and strict adherence to whatever protocols applied to the type of tape used, the surface to which it was applied, and the items that were secured. It's all about the prep and proper application.
this is standard in airplane manufacturing, people are clueless
@@mookisabatuki4201 ---people who fail at prepping surfaces are clueless, yes. Can't take shortcuts when you're using adhesive products with explicit use instructions.
Did the customer have an solid spacer to replace the crush sleeve or does the front diff not use a crush sleeve?
You'll get a better bond if you clean your surfaces and then warm up your surfaces before applying the tape.
so it came off in like 3 minutes ? with your weak twisting and pulling doing nothing as expected (because you're weak and don't know what you're doing) but as soon as the vice held it properly, it came off. Here is a tip, quit acting cute and get the job done. You're old
Hey Cristin, where did you purchase those and do you remember what they cost per sheet? I'm assuming those are the 1/4" thick? Thanks.
Gotta say I'm not really sure why the dealership would of removed the flexplate while replacing the transmission.. if I'm not mistaken the flexplate is mounted to the engine, it wouldn't be necessary to remove in order to replace the transmission or to replace a clutch.. at least not on any vehicle I've worked on.. almost sounds like a manufacturer defect from a lazy or improperly trained individual individual installing it incorrectly during the manufacturing process.. had an older vehicle where the flexplate separated from the ring gear on a manual vehicle and gave me all sorts of issues but never had a flexplate failure on an automatic
Just out of curiosity, what year is that taco?? You may have said it in the video and I missed it..
👍
👍
How mounting brackets/system did you use to install your awning to the side of the camper?
Haven't heard from you in a while. Hope you are great and looking forward to your next video.
Love it. Just found your channel and hopefully I figure what pushed you to turn off the fast paced world and just be. I’m trying to get there and, God willing, in 9 months I too will be living my best life in the slow solo lane. Great channel and best of luck to you. Maybe I’ll see ya on the road
All you had to do is hold them out the window while going down the interstate and they would have instantly separated. Lol
Hi Cristin n I hope u do a comparison video of ur old rig vs ur new rig. thks rox
It's the worst
Report to BBB
2nd Gen Tacoma pedal to acceleration are always lagging. I notice the Wasatch Front road, grewup in Granite, miss skiing at Alta, Snowbird, Brighton, and Park West (Park City),. I got the a 2nd Gen TRD Off Road irritating since my daily driver is Toyota Pickup 5th Gen with the mechanical acceleration using a throttle cable with a linear response.
I was convinced I needed to do 8020 to build out my cabinets with 8020. But the esto connector and tubing route seems a bit easier to manage and cheaper. Howd you mount the siding on the cabinets?
Hate the rookie Cinema BS, just show the build raw, you aren’t entering this into the Emmy awards or anything
Thanks for watching! Cheers
Great, well thought out design/build.
VHB deniers are just butt hurt because they spent hundreds on a roof rack and hardware when all they had to do is buy a roll of tape. LOL
Hope you are ok.
What is it called
Video starts at 02:39
I love you both side storage box for rainy day. Do have info for these aluminum square tube and corner joint.
I used 1" aluminum square tubing and Estos connectors (corner joints)
Where you found the plastic corner adapter and witch tickness of square tube.
You cute! Also good info, just waht I needed for my RV solar panel!
No need to apologize, you’re doing amazing, keep it up
Im late to the party, but here’s my idea. I would leave the hinge as is, ad a thin ribbon of flat one sided rubber tape either to the inside of the door or the outside of the camper and let the pressure of the door create the seal when closed. I prefer this over adding anything on the outside to prevent water dripping over the area, as this creates a disruption of the air flow. Im planning on building my own camper with aerodynamic airflow
Your build is looking good. Is the double sided tape water proof or are you adding some kind of sealer to the joints?
water proof
Nice job! I’m interested in building my own camper, I like challenges 💪🏼. Do those panels have insulating properties? If so, what R Value? Where dud you buy the panels?
Dealer just quoted me $2300 to do this job... Yea....
I see it’s been a year since you posted, how has all this worked out?
Many people just talk for the hobby of talking, many speak without even having tried this tape, or they have tried it but joining a greasy panel with a panel full of dust, and then they complain because the two panels come apart. Anyway, I think one thing has to be clarified: it's not only a temporary test of the adhesive's resistance under stress that counts, it's also important to determine its resistance over time. And such a test can only be made by time itself. I've tried some tapes that seemed extra-strong in the moment I had just applied them, but, after a while, they lost their bond strength by themselves, without even any stress test. Furthermore, I think the deformability of the surfaces you join is an important factor to take into consideration. If you place a wooden plaque on a wall, the wood may tend to warp over time, and, if the tensions generated by the wood are high, it's not certain that the double-sided tape will be able to retain the deformations without detaching from the contact surface, or without damaging them.
Very nice
I enjoyed this nice, quiet, story time. Thanks for the invite.
Thanks for watching!
I work in the aerospace industry (helicopters) and we also use that 3M tape.
So cool❤
Everyone has to follow their own path and you've chosen yours. Wish I was brave
So cool that you took time to do that
😂😂😂
congrations on your build well done . I just stumbled on your channel and build series can you tell me what thickness of aluminum frame tubing you used and did you use a mixture of aluminum composite for exterior or just aluminum
How do you cook and do you use a portable potty
This isn't my current setup anymore. So at the time, I used a propane stove to cook. And I have a Restop compact toilet.
