33 and HOMELESS. Total Failure?

  • To me, home is YOUR place. Home is your safe space. Home is your sanctuary. Home is where you can let your guard down and rest easy. Home is where you unpack and settle in. Home is where you shelter when the outside storms rage on. I believe that humans naturally desire Home. We desire a comfortable space in this world to simply exist.
My truck has been my home on wheels for the past two years. But with the new home currently in progress, I don’t have that place or space that I can move into, unpack, and settle in. I feel without a home of my own. Because this is so temporary, it didn’t make sense to rent an apartment or house.
So I’m in this weird limbo at the moment and for the past couple of months. And that’s been challenging, mentally and emotionally. Some days it really gets me down. This project hasn’t been the easiest… in ways I genuinely would have never imagined.
But it's all about mentality, right? I have to keep reminding myself that this isn’t a forever thing. I have to focus on how awesome and worth it this will be. I have to remember my personal Why - WHY I am doing this with the goals and dreams it pursues. There is a BIGGER picture to it all, and it's hanging onto that light at the end of the tunnel.
We all have our struggles, big and small.
On a positive note, I'm channeling my inner minimalist to the max!! Not having so much STUFF is actually really nice. Living current life in 2 small duffel bags and some camera boxes. Kinda interesting!
As always, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for watching and for following along.
    Stay awesome.

I sorta envy you. I long for the road and yet I waited to long. I have a truck camper and I go out weekends but it's not how I wanted it. My wife became ill and plans changed so now I am just a weekend warrior but I try to make the best of it. The way I see it is any freedom is better than no freedom. I heard a comment a while back from a very special lady who is no longer of this earth and it has touched me deeply. " You can't wait until life isn't hard anymore before you decide to be happy." ~ Nightbird

Much like you, maybe someday I’ll have it.

Bin awhile since I stopped by since we last spoke a few years ago I've a had massive car accident that almost took the use of my left arm ... But I bought my 32 ft bumper pull RV and I learned I'll never be homeless again.

Failure is just perception…if you are happy and living life the way you want to, then that hardly counts as failure. Failure is giving up on your dreams and the things that make you happy. Things may change in the future, but follow the path you desire and see where it takes you. Badass camper and truck by the way, so it all fits well. 😊

I can truly appreciate this...except from the other direction. I have a home and I crave traveling in remote places and living minimally. This of course will never happen because I've made choices and, for my family, I need to see them through. I understand what you're saying and I can't imagine the brass washers it takes to tackle the vision you have, kudos to you! Keep going, your path will lead you where you need to be exactly when you need to be there. I've enjoyed your content for years and you're one of my favorite adventurers! Even on those hard days you've got a bunch of us out here who are cheering you on! Be safe!

Thank you for sharing such a very kind comment! I'm sure my story would be insanely different had I chosen the spouse/kids route in life. I've gotten pre-approved multiple times thinking I was going to buy a home and never pulled that trigger either. The journey is unfolding in its own unique way, and I'm just stoked to be here for the ride. Hopefully one day you can pursue that dream and experience the travels and liberating minimalism for your own!

@Badass Brunette OH yeah, you haven't failed. Not one bit. You have chosen the difficult trail, you know the more rewarding trail. The right person will come around, maybe fate has spared you from all the wrong ones. Keep the faith. The minute you stop searching for things, you find them.

HOLY CRAP!!!!!! I saw my name on the credits 😢 I never thought I'd see my name on a TH-cam video ever! Thank you thank you thank you! I watched this a second time and was thinking while the video finished and there it was...I peed a little...I hope you know just how much following your journey has meant to me. It's got me through some real dark times. My work has put me through the ringer and the one thing that helps is watching you and other adventurers. Enough about that, this is temporary and your camper will get done and the adventure will continue. No one ever gained anything good without a little bit of struggle! Thank you, be safe!!!

I used to think home meant a geographical place. But I learned home is an inside place. In my heart. My soul. That's home. Remember the saying no matter where you go, there your are? It's like that. Family. Friends. Friends that are family. They too are home. Your optimism will see you through. The goal has been set. You are on your way. Remember, it's the journey. The journey is the destination. Thank you for sharing. You are a good person. :)

You inspire me to no end, I have had houses, been married, vacations, eaten at amazing restaurants and made well over 6 digits. Currently I am homeless, not working And just saw the Grand Canyon for the first time in my life as I drove across the US and I will tell you that I feel AMAZING. I have some things in motion for work so that’s good but I feel better now then I’ve felt in many years. Keep doing what makes you happy because I can tell you from experience that not many people do.
I say appreciate what you have at the moment and always try to achieve more and don’t expect it. Thank you again for this video, it renewed what I’m doing. Chasing my dreams. 🤙🏼

I can understand where you are coming from. I’ve been homeless for three years. I would rather save the money I would spend on rent or and consumer debt and travel and who knows maybe find some land and build a little cabin. I’ve never understood the living in one place your whole life.

Sometimes you just have to risk it all. Being homeless is many peoples biggest fear, and they will project that, usually out of love. When you are famous they will get it.

My friend in the North - thank you!! You definitely nailed it. At this stage in my life, I'd rather be homeless than house-poor. Not having so much stuff actually feels liberating. You aren't owned by your possessions or anchored to one place. It's such a freeing feeling.

There’s an abundance of 33 year old women who live in a home they can’t afford, have kids they can’t stand, married to a husband they tolerate and drive a minivan. I’d say you’re doing quite well for yourself. There are so many societal ‘norms’ that put unnecessary pressure on women these days. You’re unique, brave and beautiful.

What sustains the lifestyle that we value? In this sense, I think that you are living with integrity and not at the cost of others (which is way more than I can say about some of the 1% 🤷‍♀️). Transitions can be unfamiliar but absolutely an opportunity to explore the borders of our present limitations. Excited for your journey, for learning more about the process, and seeing you thrive in unconventional ways that absolutely shakes up our current society 🫶💪

In regards to the title question, not a failure at all. You have a goal, building your new home, and you are moving in that direction every day. The truck is slowly being built, and your new home created. Things may be a little cloudy now, but think about all of those beautiful sunrises and sunsets to come.

It's all about the mental fortitude. A couple of years ago I was a 31 year old failure making 175k/year and by definition, homeless. I've got an apartment since that realization but it's definitely not a "home". The sad days come and go but the people who live a more rooted lifestyle have the same thoughts too, just opposite. Keep on keeping strong and staying positive, everyday is a new day and days always get better, eventually

I really enjoy your videos, I took the spouse/kids route but sure dream about a life of living in a truck traveling around the mountains. Now that my 2 youngest are a little more self sufficient (no diapers)😂 I plan to go out much more when the wife works weekends. Keep positive and thanks for the truthfulness in your videos we appreciate them! Be safe

I am 33 also. But that number, 33, in my case, refers to my IQ. Putting it in perspective, 33 is a higher IQ number than my dad's cousin who is also my mother. People often ask me how I got to Memphis? I was told there are badass chicks here who don't care about a guy's IQ. I was told they live in cute little one room apartments. They always say living there is just temporary. They have really big dreams. But what I found out is they don't care what a guy's IQ is as long as he has a lot of money. I can't get no respect anywhere. I am going back to Kentucky to visit my Mom in the County Jail.
