- The foundation work. The thankless grind. The time and effort spent that the outside world will never even notice or ever see. But it's the mandatory work. These are the steps that either set you up for success or failure. No one else will appreciate the 3 long days spent on just insulation and paneling except for me. It's a funny thing to think about because up until this point, 3 days of effort usually makes for some sort of externally visible progress. This one will go entirely unnoticed to everyone but me.

Anyone who has done insulation on their rig knows the true value of your work---and we see it as you've diligently documented it on YT. My ProMaster insulation took a whole week.
I resisted adding insulation to my previous shell, but I finally went for it after a commenter told me I could fully insulate it in "half a day" using rigid board...LOL. It took 2+ days' work, and my little topper was far less complex than your camper. I had to admit it was well worth the trouble though. It's now the first thing on my To Do list for the new camper. I look forward to seeing your process for the visible walls in your living space. I want to finish mine out nicer this time around rather than leaving the insulation exposed, but am still waffling on how I want to accomplish that. Appreciate the videos, nice work Cristin!
Especially for having a black camper/topper, insulation is key! It made all the difference in my black Vagabond camper. I think the dark blue will be similar.. maybe a smidge less intense. Excited to hear you've got buildout plans for your new one! I am also looking forward to seeing what you do with it. I think that Topo camper was a solid move.
Great job on installing the insulation and working with the poly board. It’s widely used as backsplash is and also used in hospitals very durable material. Good choice.
We use super 77 to attach headliner fabric to the underside of the lid in our camper. It’s good stuff.

It would have helped if you had used spray foam to fill any gaps or places you could not put foam board. Plus there are some thin sheet radiant barrier type insulation that you could put over the entire areas to help reduce thermal bridging. Aluminum is super thermally conductive. It is like an eighth of an inch thick.

Stay positive. I know exactly how this goes. Being quite a bit older, a little advice. This is who you are and what you choose. In truth, nothing should give you more joy at the end of each day than your daily accomplishments . And one of those accomplishments can be as simple as just being you.

Putting 1inch thick foam boards in between 1inch alubars make them sit flush against each over. That means that you get a lot of cold bridges from the alubars. And aluminum has very high thermal conductivity ! And then you have only very thing layer of olastic above it. Have you already had any issues with condensations at these points ? I bet in really cold conditions (well below freezing ) you can even have frost here.
Polywall -website says that it is not good for RV because they cannot sustain very large temp range.

That spray melted my insulation (same as that) on my trailer build! I wish you better luck. Not exactly sure what happened but some of the panels became pretty warped from it. Not noticeable since they’re covered but I’ve wondered if it affected the R at all…

Funny enough, I noticed that too! It seemed to happen wherever the spray went on really thick. But somehow it's still holding the panels in place.

What's about the aluminium structure. It is not isolated. Cold bridge as we call it in German.

It fits beyond perfectly with the 1" aluminum framing.

I would GUESS just the camper shell (with lid) probably weighs around 300 lbs.
That’s pretty good. I want to do a similar build on a power wagon and keep it around a thousand pounds. I probably won’t have a kitchen and stuff though.
