@@daftmonkey7296 it's true Professionally done and unbelievably powerful. I knew that street being in Salford. Before my time but a Hell of a tragic case.

Maybe Henry's mother was frightened of losing him as she lost her husband. Keeping him in the kitchen because he couldnt see the outside world and what wonders he would experience if she let him out. I had a few tears in my eyes listening to this story. How sad and certainly as a mother pulls at the heartstrings. Ant the poem was lovely. The way you film and the words you use is phenomenal. Anthony, this absolutely broke my heart 💔 the story hit home, especially with the children I work with. How different things were back then compared to now 😢 Thankyou so much for sharing his story ❤
I certainly would lay 🎉on they're resting place if I lived near the area ( I live in Leeds Yorkshire) God rest they're souls. Henry must have been in terrible fear when found, unimaginably tragic life for both Mother and Son. Thanks for the story and poem.
This was in the days when we had tight-knit communities, hence the neighbours knowing she hadn't taken her milk in. Yet, nobody heard a child next door and wondered why they hadn't seen one? So strange and so sad.
Oh, wow. That's an incredibly heart rending story, beautifully told. Your poem was very touching. It's impossible to make a judgement on Clara. She may have locked him away because of her own issues but she may just have been protecting him if he hadn't developed as other children do. Who knows, but that is an amazing story. Thank you for bringing it to light.
Antony, this video brought a tear to my eye, a mothers love! There's no relationship like a mother and son, my son is 18 yet he'll always he my little boy, maybe she couldn't bare to be alone having lost her husband, having said that, hard to know if it was selfishness or was it something more. Your delivery is so beautiful & poignantly written & narrated… such a sad tale of a mother & son reunited in death. I cannot imagine as a mother doing that to my son so I can only imagine she was mentally unstable in some way & fearful of losing Henry. What I don’t understand is she never even taught him to speak not one word. Heartbreaking 💔 Ant you did amazing as always! You are a 1 in a million storyteller! Enjoy watching so much
Doing what you do best and bringing these lost stories of people long forgotten back to life . I can only imagine the poor Henry didn’t have a very nice time when he was put into a poorly run institution. Where the staff and facilities were outdated and poorly run . And mental health wasn’t recognised then . Great work Ant . I salute you 🫡

Taken from the 1939 register 23 Scholes Street, Salford, Salford C.B., Lancashire, England Clara M Cooper Born 26 May 1867 Female Unpaid Domestic Duties Widowed Henry L Cooper Born 29 Oct 1907 Male Incapacitated Single My hobby/obsession for nearly 30 years has been genealogy. We need to remember that children such as Henry were often placed in the Workhouse or an Institution, many parents feared that their child would be removed from them. This happened within my family to a cousin who was born around the same time as Henry, he was born and lived in the slums of Salford. I believe mum and dad loved him and were protecting him.
Thanks for this additional information. Someone posted he went to school until he was 9, but it's possible he was able to blend in initially, but then fell behind because of his disability. I doubt we'll ever know.

A very sad story , I can only imagine the mothers thinking behind her actions is that Henry would most certainly have ended up in an Asylum, people like Henry nowadays would be classed as having extreme learning difficulties, but back then would have Been classed as a lunatic , as someone who was once a one to one carer I looked after someone just like Henry .
What a sad story. I wonder if Henry was born with health issues or deformities and she wanted to hide him away from the world. This is very strange for the time period as people then were more neighbourly and would surely of known of his plight. Also I wonder if they had any relatives, as who paid and erected that stone.
This story is so sad and brought tears to my eyes, thank you for telling Henry’s story. I’ve just read an article about Henry on the Mcr General Cemetery Transcription Project Website. It says Henry attended school regularly up until the age of 9 but then his Mother took him out of school and the authorities forgot about him. I’m not sure how factual that is but if it is true it suggests that Henry was in a school for children with special needs if he was unable to dress himself and talk properly. Also what did his Mother and Father tell the neighbours? Did they move House after removing Henry from school so their new neighbours didn’t know of Henry’s existence? Also Henry’s Father didn’t die until 1931, Henry would have been about 24 then, therefore he must have been keeping his Son locked up in the kitchen too unless he didn’t live with him. Both parents must have had mental health issues. I feel so sad for Henry, RIP Henry Lamont Cooper ❤
This moved me and brought a feeling that it wouldn't happen today in the UK. But all those years ago who knows whether this happened more often that we discovered. Well done for th presentaion of this, and the poetry at the end was the icing on the cake
i have no words.that poor guy.was innocent as a child to his dying day.im amazed that he was hidden away and no one in the community knew of his existence. I mean there was world war 2 going on only couple years before (1939 to 1945). How did his mother manage to hide him especially if when being called to bomb shelter as most people were during that time.not to mention the ration cards etc.just a very upsetting story.may he rest in peace.
He probably died of shock to some extent. Got me thinking about how we form memories and how you don't form memories as a baby...well...do you as an adult baby? And if so imagine how narrow his frame of reference was....Every one of his memories, every single one, will have been in that kitchen. And of his mum. With no language or music or ANY other reference whatsoever AT ALL. I can't imagine what a shock, or series of shocks, literally every single thing after that door being busted in must have been. New people, and like you say, cars. Buildings and crowds and all in a language he didn't understand. That's mind-blowing. Just found you on here mate. Great videos. To get your ideas put on film so well is really impressive. Great to see someone enjoy and be fascinated by history like I am. I'm sure many people just glide through life never seeing beyond the surface. You questioned on one of your Salford videos whether you overthink things. Well there's nothing wrong with that if you do bud 👍🏼
Such a sad story. Clara must have had severe mental and abandonment issues to keep him locked away from the world and the life that he so deserved to live, away from her clutches. Heartbreaking for sure. RIP. 😢 Thank you, Anthony for another great story. Your work is greatly appreciated. 🫶
That's a shocking tale. The mother I reckon never fully got over her husband's death and kept Henry locked away. A fear maybe of losing him or trying to stop him growing up. Very strange! Great video and touching poem at the end. Nice work!
Such a sad story DM 😢, the poor guy he obviously didn't know any better. He was found in good condition so she obviously looked after him well. So sad indeed 😢 she probably wanted to protect him from abuse from people. His mom was the only person he knew, he must have died from a broken heart. R.I.P. Henry. 🙏🙏🙏. Thanks for sharing DM 👍👍
I've watched the video and read some research and it says that he attended normal school up to the age of 9. His father died and his mother took him out of school. Presumably he was of normal mental growth up to that point, but when found 30 years later, he couldn't talk or dress himself. It's always possible that some physical trauma had happened to him rendering him mentally disabled and given that people with a learning disability would be thrown into an institution. His mum had lost her husband and she probably locked her son away from the authorities in case they took him off her. It was probably more than she could bear. Park House was Crumpsall Workhouse/hospital, for "mentally feeble", orphans and paupers. What mother would want her precious child to go there. And also this was the days before the NHS.
Thank you wow what a sad story you brought it out into the light! well done you your poem is brilliant too I love your videos always done brilliantly. 🎬🎬👏👏👏👏👏👏
Hi Ant, this is one of the saddest stories I've heard, they both must have had some kind of mental illness, because I can't imagine keeping someone confined to the kitchen all their lives, a normal child's natural curiosity would have made them investigate other rooms at the very least, she must have thought she was protecting him from the world, but it's so sad, this was so interesting Ant, thanks for this one, really enjoyed it xxx
Nicely done Anthony, a sad story, well told. Who knows what was going on in the minds of that family. But you know, I think it would be a mistake to imagine such things only happened in the past. I have no doubt there are people enduring a similar fate right now, and not just in the UK either. I look forward to the rest of the series. All the best!
So very sad for Henry , Perhaps his mother replaced her husband's presence in the house with poor Henry & time overtook their sad painful life . Rest in Peace Henry.
Hay quienes tienen una vida difícil y a lo mejor por eso no dejan gratos recuerdos una vez cruzaron a otro plano de existencia porque cometieron errores. Feliz semana !!!
Such an interesting video. My great grandma lived on Scholes Street and was living there when this happened. I can only assume this wasn't common knowledge
Another fantastic video with an equally fantastic narration, your words at the end for this poor man summed up this sad story. Keep up your great work.
It goes to show what goes on behind closed doors and that the world outside is oblivious too 😮 Well researched pal and you got a grave to visit as well. Up here they can be a bugger to find.
Thank you for another great upload. Such a sad story. I think his mam was traumatised by someone or something. Heartbreaking 😢 imagine how terrified he was when she passed.
Beautiful poem daft monkey. Very lovely and touching. You're a good poet . Brilliant videos found you through days of horror and must say you're a talented man. Well done brilliant informative chanel ❤ Annie. X
Aw thanks so much Annie! That’s really kind of you to say. I’m not much of a poet, but this one seemed to write itself. Great to have you on board. Hope you enjoy the content. Plenty more to come ⭐️
Well Done Anthony, very deep and moving indeed. There are a multitude of reasons a situation like this has occurred unfortunately. Before we can begin to find a reason why we would need a past history of his mum, Dad , maybe even further back in the family history. Could even be genetic. Could there have been great loss in the wars, any terrible events that have made his mum be like she was. Had she experienced many loses in her life. So many 'whats ifs'. There is also medical and mental health issues that could be involved etc Borderline Personality Disorder. Going back in time Mother and child was universally recognised as the single most influential factor in a childs physical, psychological and emotional well being, this would have impacted on a child if she had depression, her behaviour, and her own well being. Did she understand herself she was harming this young man? did she think she was protecting him? did he fear her behaviour if she was depressed or bad tempered. This could be discussed on so many levels. It was strange that he had never seen any medical services or nurse, or health visitor who follow the childs progress. Did they even know he existed? Thankyou so much for your kind visit to his grave to honour him and for the beautiful poetic tribute at the end. May he be Rested in Peace 🌹🌹x
How sad. I wonder about his Dad. Not sure how old he was when Dad died, but was Dad part of his confinement too? His Mum may have taken advantage of a mental defect, or she tried to protect him from the cruel world. Just plain sad.
it sure is Mandy, im sure theres more to the story but I can seem to find any info. if I discover more ill post or do a short video, im intrigued to know more. really glad you enjoyed it and cheers for the comment.
It's more likely that this man was neuro-diverse and non-verbal and his Mum kept him hidden to avoid him being removed from her home and taken to an institution as regularly happened then. The candle light may well be because he had sensory issues and couldn't cope with brighter lights. He may have never learned to feed himself with utensils due to learning difficulties.
Some of the stories you cover are so shocking they seem unreal. Your narration is out of this world keep up the great work. looking forward to future videos.
Enjoyed the new video, a story thats so unbelievable in the time we live in now. Great poem, hope you write more. As always very well put together. Looking forward to your next video. Tai
Henrys story is heartbreaking and deseves to see the light of day, cant help but feel he had severe learning dificulties, his mother knew it was a cruel world out there that lacked understanding .She could of feared there was a possibility he'd be taken into an asylum.

Maybe she wasn't cruel but sadly she wanted to protect him. May they both rest in peace.x thank you so much for these videos they are so enlightening and thought provoking. We should not judge.
Very sad story ant, told with so much respect without sensationaling it. It was a selfish love by the mother, who should of reached out to experts in the medical profession. As she wasn't doing her son any favours

I agree mike, you never truly know what's going on behind closed doors and people minds. Thanks so much for watching mate.
I will with a shadow of doubt ..and with flowers...this make you realise how short life is and how looking we are now ..Great videos pal
Very kind John! Thanks for watching buddy!

@@daftmonkey7296 your videos are so addictive thank you 🙏
It goes to show what goes on behind closed doors and that the world outside is oblivious too 😮 Well researched pal and you got a grave to visit as well. Up here they can be a bugger to find.
I agree mate, we never really know do we. thanks so much! really glad you enjoyed it and cheers for the comment.
Thank you for another great upload. Such a sad story. I think his mam was traumatised by someone or something. Heartbreaking 😢 imagine how terrified he was when she passed.
Thanks so much for watching! I really does mean a lot ⭐️
Such a sad story and one that really got me thinking about my own family, as Henry's story is familiar to my mine, but different sa well.
very thought provoking that's for sure Paul. thanks so much! really glad you enjoyed it and cheers for the comment.
Such a sad story 😢
Beautiful poem daft monkey. Very lovely and touching. You're a good poet . Brilliant videos found you through days of horror and must say you're a talented man. Well done brilliant informative chanel ❤ Annie. X
Aw thanks so much Annie! That’s really kind of you to say. I’m not much of a poet, but this one seemed to write itself. Great to have you on board. Hope you enjoy the content. Plenty more to come ⭐️
What a harrowing existence for them both. Very sad 😢 . Well done DM 🐒
I agree mate, thanks so much for watching :)
So love your videos. Sad, happy, but real life back in the days of old Salford. Please keep them coming. Keep safe and well r kid.
Nice one mate, much appreciated! thanks so much I really appreciate that!
Excellent points there Yvonne! thanks so much for the comment!
Honestly, thank you so much! That means the world ⭐️👍🏼
Enjoyed the new video, a story thats so unbelievable in the time we live in now. Great poem, hope you write more. As always very well put together. Looking forward to your next video. Tai
thanks so much! really glad you enjoyed it and cheers for the comment.
Henrys story is heartbreaking and deseves to see the light of day, cant help but feel he had severe learning dificulties, his mother knew it was a cruel world out there that lacked understanding .She could of feared there was a possibility he'd be taken into an asylum.
Very good theory that Nat and one that is probably true. Thank so much for watching. I really appreciate it 👍🏼
Great video of a tragic story. Looking forward to the next. Take care.
thanks so much I really appreciate that!
Brilliant Ant 👌🏻 so glad to hear of this new mini series. And you're right, I'd never heard about this, so thanks so much for your amazing research into it and bringing it to us. It's such a sad story. Sad but a joy to watch, in the way of how you put your videos together, very respectful and the feeling of nostalgia of events gone by. Perfect once again, I can't wait for the next one 😊 x
That ode to Henry...👌🏻😢beautiful x
Aww thanks so much Tina, it was tough one to put together but very rewarding knowing people enjoyed it!
Thanks for this Ant.
Maybe she wasn't cruel but sadly she wanted to protect him. May they both rest in peace.x thank you so much for these videos they are so enlightening and thought provoking. We should not judge.
Well done lad, that poem was beautiful 👏👏👏👏

haha, I'm glad to be back, its the only thing that keeps me on track at times. thanks so much for watching.
Great work Ant. A fascinating, interesting, but very dark story. I guess you never really know what goes on behind closed doors.
Thanks so much mate, very true!
Very sad story ant, told with so much respect without sensationaling it. It was a selfish love by the mother, who should of reached out to experts in the medical profession. As she wasn't doing her son any favours
thanks for the comment mate! definitely something going on with his mum, you never know what goes on behind closed door. Cheers for watching pal!
This was fantastic!! Honestly really enjoyed it. The way you make videos like this is gripping, like a book that you just can't put down. 😀 I'm really excited for the rest of the series, especially after seeing the thumbnails that you posted the other day! Well done on making a little known story into such an excellent video. You're one of the most talented TH-camrs in your genre!! 👍👍👍
Thanks so much, I cant believe it wasn't notified with your comment! I'm sorry I never got back to you sooner.
Thanks for bringing to life the very sad story of Henry, great video ant 😎
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks so much I really appreciate that!
