  • So after reading many articles and watching documentaries on the subject, I felt like I had to retrace the footsteps of David Lytton. This video is in a completly different style but one I have been meaning to try for a while. I have always has a bit of a fascination with True Crime / Mystery topics and Ive decided to have a go at it myself.
The subject was very challenging and confusing at times and there is stuff I have left out but I've tried to stick to the facts and revive the case the best that I can. It is quite a dark and chilling style of documentary but one I'm hoping you will like.
I would love to know your theory of what might have happened that day on Dovestones, so please leave a comment below.
As always thank you so much for the love and support you always show me and this channel, It really does mean a lot and without you it really wouldn't be possible!
Take care & stay positive and enjoy the video!
    BIG LOVE - D.M- X
Music by Co.ag - • Mysterious Ambient Bac...
Drone Footage by Richard (Channel Link) • Dovestone Reservoir
Special thanks to my dad as this is also a subject that has baffled him for ages. Check out his facebook page which is -
    THE PARADOX CLUB (Paranormal Investigators)
And also a huge thanks to project X for the archive footage!
    A quick overview
David Lytton's body was discovered at Dove Stone Reservoir in Greater Manchester on 12 December 2015.
He was born David Lautenberg on 21 April 1948 but his name changes to Lytton on the electoral register in 1987.
The 67-year-old flew into London Heathrow from Lahore, Pakistan, two days before his body was found.
He was identified from photos from a passenger list and picked up on CCTV in London.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said his identity was confirmed as a result of a DNA match with a relative.
Police said a "provisional" cause of death had been determined as "strychnine poisoning". Police believe he took his own life.
An international police investigation was launched after a post-mortem examination revealed he had a type of titanium plate in his leg which was only manufactured and fitted in Pakistan.
Greater Manchester Police and the National Crime Agency contacted the medical community and the British Embassy in Pakistan to appeal for information.
DNA analysis confirmed that he was David Lytton from London, who had "no obvious connection" to Saddleworth.
Mystery still surrounds the case and why he chose to head to Greater Manchester after returning from Pakistan.

Firstly the way you set the scene was fantastic, taking us all with you on his final journey. The snow adds to the beauty of the place 👌
The red flags for me are -
His brothers TV interview, claims not to have seen him for 10 years but suggests his use of the drug was recreational and he had a high tolerance and some of it may have "blown up into his face" leading to an overdose..that's rather specific information or totally made up for the press, he's also rather happy whilst talking about it, laughing and smiling all the way through.
I'm not saying he had anything to do with it in any way but its a very odd interview when talking about the death of a brother 🤔
Name change lautenberg to lytton but brothers second name is lawton which almost sounds like lytton? Very odd
Personal theory - he was meeting someone and didn't go up there to kill himself, he had something else going on, was possibly met at piccadilly and taken there specifically,
Dementia- did he actually have his faculties, did he think he was dressed appropriately for the hike or was he taking so much of the drug that he was impaired but still able to ask for directions 🤔
Again all this is leading me to foul play and a second or third party being involved , could someone have taken an alternate route up from the other side to meet him ?
Pure speculation and im sure this will remain a mystery for many years but its good to go down the rabbit hole to try and figure this stuff out 😁
Really well done this mate you should be proud 👏 👍 😁

Wow, firstly Danny thank you so much mate for even watching the video. I really do appreciate it. Secondly you’ve made some excellent points there and I’m with you on it. Since the release of the video I have sort of swung to the possibility that his brother had something to do with it. I too thought he was handling it in a pretty strange way, laughing, making assumptions that his brother could be drug dependent and also the fall out between the two.... was there more to this argument that hasn’t come to light yet?
All of the possibilities you’ve made are valid and I lt wouldn’t be surprised if one of your theories came to light. As of now it still remains a mystery and one that I might have to do a follow up on? Thanks once again Danny, you always make a great point. Take care mate and hopefully see you soon 🌟👍🏼

I feel like there is an awful lot of Olde💰money💱 ,paperwork of information & evidence, land deeds & all the stuff that usually comes with a lower/ Upper-class persons Death ,a Lord, Count or an Earl who had accomplished many lower teir spying missions for his Embassy work in the many different countries that had work all over the world doing for his Dutie to 👑Queen & Country but I feel something happened to make him question his safety & that he didn't belong at the UK/?Embassy or wasn't safe anymore because of whatever triggered him to do this bizarre protocol which led to his strange case of his death, it certainly felt real enough to this well travelled man to get on a plane to get away & to get his house/affairs in order before his meeting with Death up North.

This is a wonderful piece of work, Anthony 💕. Filmed with such respect. There is another strange incident around the Clarence pub and that route to the moors/Dovestones: in 1986 Myra Hindley was taken back to the Moors by helicopter in the hope of Police finding the bodies of Pauline Reade and Keith Bennett. There was a Police cordon at the Clarence. Pat Kilbride, father of John Kilbride, was later stopped by Police - he was found with a knife and his intended victim was Myra Hindley. He was taken back to the Clarence by Police. He had got past the Police cordon at the Clarence by telling officers he was a Water Board worker and was going to work. It’s just so bizarre these incidents all happen in the same place; such a lot of tragedy up there.

And it would have been game over for Hindley if Pat would have got a grip of her. All those poor children. Shocking to this day. I’m working on a video at the minute. It’s documenting the Bill O’ Jacks murder that happened in the 1800’s. Not sure if if you’ve heard of it? Take care Ani and thank you for watching

@@daftmonkey7296 😉 ... I often wondered if there was more to Pat Kilbride ‘getting past the police cordon’ (‘on you go, Sir’) than met the eye! She was absolute evil - unfortunately, because in the ‘60s people couldn’t comprehend/accept that a woman could do what she did she managed to fool a lot of people. When I worked at Chester Courts I saw the case file ... I’d have held Pat’s coat!

Thankyou for such a respectful journey into this mystery DM. It really does get your mind swimming. Your research, filming, scenery, editing, music its the whole package for the true life/ crime mystery of David. Fantastic. I was glued to every word every second. Unfortunately unable to come up with a conclusion. I believe alot more investigating of past history needs to be sought for answers. I do think David was in a depressed condition due to his erattic movements when he returned to the UK. More clairification iis needed on the reasons for some of the circumstances. What was identified in the Autopsy report? did they detect Strychnine? Why did he leave the uk to go to Lahore? What and who was he with in Lahore? Was he in a relationship in Lahore? Could he have been depressed when he left Lahore and why? Break down of relationship leading to him feeling lost and depressed. Had he been threatened n Lahore? When he returned and booked the room for 5 days was his passport and personal belongings there? Why book for 5 days maybe incase he could not follow through with his Suicide. Did he return and meet up with a family member to try and make peace? Why decide Dovecote it is extremely beautiful and peaceful, but it would have also been viciously cold? Did he contact his brother prior to going to Dovecote on his return from Lahore? The list could go on and on. The position he was found in is particularly strange even if he had taken his own life how could he have maintained that position? The list could go on and on. I am really hoping someone at somepoint has spoken to David that has that little clue to what really did happen. I feel this will stay with me for a very long time. May david now be Rested in Peace however he met his demise. Bless him. DM one day the answer may come. Well done , great work. Look forward to the next one.

This sets the scene very well and how peaceful this area is.
Red flags are: Why would a very frugal man spend money flying all the way from Lahore, then spend money for 5 nights stay to only stay 1 night and then spend money on a return ticket when he had not intended to come back to go to a place he had no connections with?
@DannyRanks the family name had changed from Lautenberg to Lawton by their parents. David changed his surname to Lytton - which is very similar in sound.
If it was a third party why would you choose such a beautiful and peaceful spot? Why would someone who had no connection with this spot know this was the perfect place to take your own life?
Maybe one day something will emerge which makes some sense of all of this. Until then I can't make my mind up.

A very sad story indeed and I'm sorry if if I have missed this , but the taxi driver that took him from Manchester station to Greenfield has never come forward (to my knowledge) . It must have been about 40/ 45 minute journey and surely they would remember ? Another theory to throw into the mix . Thank you again , Mark .

If he did do it himself. Coming back to the UK makes sense, his family wouldnt have to pay to get his body flown over to the UK but not near his home so any one he knew would find him. If he took the poison though, him lying peacefully with his arms folded dont add up. This case has been on my mind since the documentary aired on channel 4

First time I've watched your content & I was hooked from the very beginning with this sad story.
Presentation was excellent & the music really reflects the mystery in a beautiful landscape.
The two things that stand out is the ergency in leaving Lahore for London & leaving Ealing after one day having booked in for five days.
If Dovestones was his intended destination, wouldn't it have been easier to fly to Manchester direct from Lahore?
Also, maybe somewhere in his past connects all these places in some way.
    Godbless him.
Look forward to more content from your channel. Great stuff! 👍

My feeling is that he was a loner, so his brother would know but not really if there was a fallout. My thoughts are that he knew it was called indians head, living in lahore. He was a train driver so he studied areas well. I think he intended to go to a beautiful peaceful area to die, I feel he put the pills in, definitely not a spy. I think he intended to die in a peaceful beautiful place. No phone or passport, clothes not suitable. He got money and return ticket as a back up. Indian head he studied & intended to die there. I feel he was held by this guy hence different movements. Remember it was cold. I definitely think no foul play. RIP David 🙏

What about his history as a tube driver? It’s (apparently) three suicide involvements (jumpers) and you’re retired. He was 57 when he packed up and ran away. Was that the point when he hit critical mass. Did he ask the brother he hated to assist him in his suicide and the brother that hated him and who he hadn’t helped out in his time of need used poison instead of the agreed morphine? Another thing to consider is the five day window. It may have been that he was told he would get the nod at some point between day one and day five. The fact that it was day one may indicate the plan was in place before then but that doesn’t allow for any problems with delayed flights etc. So it may be that if another person was involved then they might have been local (ish) to the area and decided to go there and then. It would help to see bank records and also where his passport and wallet etc were located. Any thing that could found at his Lahore digs might cast some light. I think it’s very unlikely that espionage is involved. I would guess he suffered from mental illness and it was assisted suicide with his brother playing a role either directly or as a third party organiser. The police know it and have dropped it but can’t let it be known as it is a crime.

Get applying for jobs in 'documentary making' - seriously! Grasp what you can whilst your young Anthony because this production was brilliant - don't waste years working indoors watching the clock 😌. Getting back to David Lytton. Instinct tells me he was meeting someone - no way would a man travel half way around the world to kill himself (that's looking at it through rose tinted specs), nor would he book 5 days lodgings, nor a return train ticket. He was expecting to return to his lodgings after what ever business he'd got planned. There is defo a third party involved - however, this is one of those mystery's which will never be solved. Thank you ever so much Anthony for this as I'd forgotten all about David Lytton. You take care 💚 and think on about where you'd like to be in the very near future 💚.

A lot of indigenous Americans used to know when they were ready to die and would take themselves to a beautiful place to die. It might link in with the Indians head, also there could have been foul play or espionage. I have a strong feeling he would be pleased it was a mysterious death as he was so private in life. The next day he travelled to Manchester and then on to the moor. It seems he specifically chose this place and from the end of the video view it may be apparent why. I feel he may have been there before maybe many years previously. This could explain his need to get directions to where he wanted to get to. It's possibly something we will never know the answer to. But, your video certainly got me thinking. If he had never been there it is still possible he saw pictures or paintings of that specific area.

Out of all the places in the world, why lahore? Iv been to pakistan and been to lahore. Yes its a nice city ,very vibrant and busy ,a city where a person can easily dissapear/blend into.he could have lived lavishly there if wanted as £1 there is like 120 rupees.yet he chose to live simply maybe to not draw attention. but why pakistan? I got a feeling the spy theory kind of has a bit of weight to it..maybe not a spy but informer or maybe knew somthing.
    Who knows .Somthing dosnt sit
right.and the poison ,did customs at airport not check the medication or ask what it was? Usually need a gp letter confirming that the medication is prescribed when going or comming from Pakistan from own experience last travelled there in 2017 and that was still the case.
    Very strange one this .

Great video and awesome country over there. I tend to think he took his own life, I also think he knew how and where he wanted to go. I feel there must have been some heartache he was dealing with, perhaps the loss of someone he loved. As for the place, well there are always places people want to see, places they have heard about from other people or maybe someone dear to him. Certainly where he was found is a beautiful place. As for the manner in which he was found, I am not sure what the weather was like, but hypothermia could have been the culprit. Perhaps he took the strychnine pills with him to use, but decided not to.

Thanks so much for watching the video Paul, it is such a beautiful place and I think the same as you. I believe he took his own life but I’m also open to other possibilities and there’s so many question marks around the whole case. I think he must have been going though some sort of heartache. Maybe not someone who died but possibly broken hearted thought being rejected or something? Couldn’t even have been his sexuality or anything even though none of this was ever confirmed in the investigation. He might have had a few skeletons in this closet ? I dunno just speculating. Thanks for watching mate I really do appreciate it. Take care 🙌🏼

Beautiful scenery, as you say! Thank you for your work on this. I would agree the gentleman planned his suicide. Maybe he learned some techniques, like Buddhists, to remain calm, like those who have set fire to themselves. Perhaps he took little doses of the poison over time, so that his body got used to it, so when he took the large dose he wasn't convulsing. I wish I had met him and said or done something that made him change his mind about dying. He seemed very methodical, determined, and courageous.

I think your assumption that he was some sort of spy is plausible. Why, of all the places in the world would you move to Lahore, a place that at the time he would have been living there was a terrorist hotspot for clashes with Al Qaida and the armed forces. In 2014, before David came home, there was an serious incident in Lahore.whereby the Pakistan Awami Tehreek activists clashed with Police resulting in several deaths. As David was a loner and people seemed to know little about him, it fitted the bill he could of been some sort of spy. I may be far off the mark but it is a rather odd story. Thank you so much for the video, as always brilliant

    "Dove"stones
Now I'm nowhere near religious, don't visit church, don't pray - but I remember the Dove being a symbol in Christianity somewhere along the line regarding peace etc
I'm thinking he committed suicide to be at peace for whatever reasoning. With Dovestones being symbolic to him , dove and all that? And how peaceful that area is.
That's my take anyway lol 😁
In Christian Iconography, a dove also symbolizes the Holy Spirit, in reference to Matthew 3:16 and Luke 3:22 where the Holy Spirit is compared to a dove at the Baptism of Jesus. ...
