I had the honour of meeting Brian Clough, in 1989 i worked in the Manchester United executive suite as a silver service waiter (even though I'm a City supporter!) United were playing Nottingham Forest in the FA cup 6th Rd...On match days i worked behind the bar, i was only 18 and a bit quiet and shy, the senior barman told me that Brian would always go to the bar himself for a drink, he went off to change a barrel so i was on my own for 5-10 minutes, when in walked Brian Clough in his green sweatshirt and white trackie bottoms! I was as scared as i was in awe of the great man...He strode to the bar with a confident bounce that only Brian Clough could pull off 😂 He said "a bottle of Perrier water please sonny" so i opened the cap and gave him the bottle with a glass, he said "Thank you sonny" and turned around, i said "Thank you Brian" quick as a flash, without turning around or breaking his stride, he said "You're welcome young man, and it's Mr Clough to you sonny jim"
I must've looked a bit pale when the senior barman came back, he said something like "Are you alright, you look a bit peaky" i told him I'd just served BC he laughed and said "was it a perrier water? I said yes, he said, he'll put some whisky in that from his hip flask!...He probably had another drink at full time, as Forest beat United 1-0 and onto the semi final vs Liverpool at Hillsborough....

Hi Ant, first of all I must say that I am not a fan of football in any way whatsoever, but because I love your stuff I watched this all the way through, and I must say you did it in your usual professional style, and it was interesting, my late dad would have loved your vlogs if he was still with us, he was Man U all the way through, when I was working ( retired now ) I was a community health worker for Trafford Council, and I had the absolute honour to attend Knobby Styles when he became poorly with dementia, what an absolutely lovely man he was, even though he was struggling he was always polite and gentlemanly to us, and his lovely wife too, it was a privilege to help him, and I still remember watching him ( when he was playing ) run round the pitch grinning after scoring, with no teeth in, he's gone now bless him, and it was a few years ago when I went to him, they were good days, as usual thanks Ant xx

Liverpool used to play Cloughys "Style" in the 80s ( I'm Man u 😢) and i was in my late teens early 20s and i used to love watching them play🤦‍♂️🤣. It was simple "one touch football " they used to attack as one and defend as one.. ( all on the ground) and even back then i couldn't understand why other teams didn't copy their style of simple pass and move ( three against 2 playing around the opposition) 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️. Anyway. Great vlog, keep up the good work. Best wishes to pop's and the crew.👏👏👍👍

There's a video on TH-cam documenting a season at Derby County before they won the league title. It's fascinating to watch when one knows what Cough went on to achieve as a manager. A very good book about Clough is "Provided You Don't Kiss Me", by Duncan Hamilton. Hamilton was a reporter who had the privilege of covering Nottingham Forest when they were in their prime. It's both funny and poignant. Clough's strength as a manager was taking an "unfashionable" team and developing it into one of the best sides in the country/Europe. For better or worse the changes to football make it very unlikely that a team bobbing about in the middle of the second tier/division will go on to win promotion, a league title and two European Cups/ Champions League titles in the space of five years.

He sounds like the no nonsense coach you would want to lead a team, he's gonna tell it like it is. Let's face it, most players, doesn't matter what sport, can be a bunch of prima-donnas, "Le Bron James, hate-em and he's on my home team." Some have their own agenda of making a name in their sport, while others are just trying to survive through the season, let alone retirement. I takes someone who is not afrad to take the players and management down a notch or two to get a team to work together and the results you expect. Good video Anthony!

The grave was a bit under whelming.
I must admit, I was expecting something a bit more lavish.

@daftmonkey7296 Nice little video. I'm not a footie fan. If it hasn't got an engine, then it's not a sport to me, but I do remember him. He was always on Granada TV for one thing or another.
He was one of those larger than life characters that we are missing these days.
I truly think Frank Bruno might have been our last one.
