I'm 60 years old and can remember the fear going round West Yorkshire back in the mid to late 70s. I still live just over a mile from where Sutcliffe attacked one of his first victims Tracey Brown in Silsden, West Yorkshire.

Very well put together Anthony...remember being 16 on train to Victoria Station everyday and women were nervous for years around blokes over 25 years old. My dad always said George Old field was bloody useless..Those flats need to go now, awful place. Nice Patricia got a nice headstone in the end..very strange times ( 5 years) hope never to be repeated. Wow, Ant that was intense!! A very similar story to one hammer man as they called him in Wallasey Gorsedale Road and a Miss Margaret Parker who was murdered,police came to every house in the area including mums asking if anyone had a hammer and searched everyone's sheds,they never found who did it.
Other girls and women were attacked to.. scary times Ant, thank you for showing compassion for these poor women..
A sad story told with such respect. May the victims all rest in peace. 🙏
Another great video Anthony, spooky, but put together with great skill. I recall two of his victims were discovered close to where I once lived. One near the old royal Infirmary in Chorlton-on Medlock, and then a second close to Southern Cemetery. Thanks for doing what you do, and your dad for his hard work behind the scenes. This is truly horrific.. apparently Sutcliffe followed her through that doorway and hit her from behind with a hammer and she fell right beside her bed so that is probably why the neighbours didn't hear anything 😢

I remember Dark Arts TV Karl going there a year or so ago and the neighbourhood made him very nervous so knew how you must of felt. What a sad story but needed to be told and I remember it well. I was a first year apprentice with Fairclough builders of Swinton in 1979. And arrived to work at 8am on Manchester Royal Infirmary job to see police everywhere, they’d found one of his victims behind the site cabins.
This one really touched me Anthony honestly the way you put this together was absolutely amazing I almost felt like I was there with you I really appreciate the effort you put into your vlogumentarys 👊🏻👍🏻

Another excellent video and I remember it all so well . My Dad was one of the many people questioned over the years and was interviewed twice after the huge mistake that Oldfield made assuming the Ripper was from a ' Geordie ' . ( He was from Co. Durham but living in Holmfirth , near Huddersfield at the time ) .
The voice experts listened to the tape many times and said that the dialect was from Castletown , Sunderland so therefore he wasn't a Geordie , but a Wearsider , and for those from that area there is a difference .
Many years later the dialect experts were completely right when hoaxer John Humble was caught as he was correctly from Castletown , Sunderland . One of the biggest 'mess ups ' ( politely ) in British Police history .
Sutcliffe took may secrets to the grave with him , and it just saddens me that all the unsolved crimes ( I think ) he might have committed could be put to rest if he had confessed to them .

Excellent work documenting this killer and his victim. Yeah, even through the video you can feel the unpleasantness of the old apartment. I think knowing what happened there and then looking at the size of the room and the width of the doorways, it just felt really claustrophobic. Not very far from where I used to live in Diamond Bar, CA the Nighstalker - Richard Ramirez killed a couple. Being curious my buddy and I went to go check it out several years later. There was a new family living there and I'm not certain if they knew the history of the home, but you could feel the uneasiness of the place, as if the house was watching us. Great video once again Anthony.

@noelogara1 I also believe his first attack was either 67 or 69 the poor Taxi driver attacked up on the moors.. His life was totally destroyed.. poor man. He's not long died hope he's now at peace..

You're a great story teller Ant. Your filming is so atmospheric, i love how you used b&w and colour. I enjoyed all the snippets of the various interviews, not just Sutcliffe but the loved ones who are left behind to pick up the pieces. The bloke who actually went to the trouble to send letters and tapes to the police was one sicko. May all the victims of the Yorkshire Ripper rest in eternal peace, Amen.

Another excellent video DM, your so talented at telling the story, adding snippets of information and clips throughout. The video was so atmospheric too. Its true you can pick up on the negativity seeped into those walls. It was a shocking time I worked in Leeds and lived in Harrogate at the time. Im sure I saw him on one of the trains. Sutcliffe was such a sick, evil, twisted killer, anyone would be terrified at his hands.I hope each and everyone of his victims now Rest in Peace xx

@@daftmonkey7296 It was very daunting and having to be more self aware of not being on your own, always making sure people were in the carriages on the train where there were other people, carried a spray and keys in pocket, very daunting time. Your description of how people were feeling was very true xx

well researched video..his wife sonias parents lived two streets away from me in Clayton-Bradford,,,when he was captured in 1981,she went back to live with them.There was loads of reporters camping out on the estate for weeks trying to interview her...dark days and times.😪

@@daftmonkey7296No they didn't drop the ball until after the Sheffield police held sutcliffe and tipped off the tabloids that they arrested the Yorkshire ripper. The WY police were certain sutcliffe was not the ripper. He was a copycat killer.
@@daftmonkey7296 Part of the problem was that back in the 1970s and early 80s the police didnt have access to the technology we have now and DNA was still in it's infancy as far as evidence was concerned . There also wasnt the CCTV and ANPR that we have now . The enquiry floundered under the weight of information that was coming in and it got worse with every attack and murder and it just ended up with stuff not being cross referenced . The floor of the incident room in Leeds had to be strengthened to take the weight of the filing cabinets full of paperwork . I am not making excuses for the police as they made massive mistakes as well and the biggest was getting tunnel vision on the tapes and letters . A young Detective Constable interviewed Sutcliffe at his home , unaware that he had already been interviewed for another part of the enquiry , he voiced his suspicions to his superiors , but because he didnt have a Geordie or Mackam accent he was sent away .
I remember this, even though I grew up in Sweden. It was scary even for us.

Sutcliffe's confessions sealed the deal with the police who knew he was a copycat killer. He did four murders, Jean Jordan, Yvonne Pearson, Margo Walls and Jacqueline Hill and all the assaults.
The real yorkshire ripper did nine linked murders and wrote to the police to convince them and to divert them to the copycat.
People are still not able to face the facts four decades on.
Poor woman, she thought she was safe in her own flat. RIP.

I’ve been in there myself. The site of Yvonne person is also not far. 2 minutes drive from Sutcliffe’s house. But there’s not much to see. It’s just small car shop now with the exact spot a car park area, Arthington street. Sad to see the pubs in Manningham have all gone now. They would have been sutcliffe’s local pubs

What a well made video of such a tragic set of murders and attacks . I was aged 6 during the first attacks in 1975 and 12 when he was caught which gives you some idea of how long he was killing and maiming people . I have read a book that suggests he may have committed even more murders all across the country . We will never know now he has died . Thank you for going into that of block of flats and to Patricia's flat itself . I can only imagine how frightening and unsettling it was for you , I felt bad enough just watching it and the hairs on the back of my neck are still standing up ! What makes the flats even worse is the derelict state of them . They need demolishing . Ive got a feeling that one of the other Ripper victims ( Helen Rytka ) is buried in the same cemetery as Patricia .
Wow Ant this was so atmospheric, I remember being a young teenager in those days, and every time I was going out my late dad was wanting to know where I was going and who with and also to be home by nine o'clock, we lived in the Manchester area, and as young girls we were scared to go out, but everyone was convinced the guy was a geordie, because of that stupid tape that was sent to police, it was played on the news every night, that poor girl on her own in that flat, my God the horror that took place there, I truly believe that buildings, rooms etc retain something of the evil that happens within them, I think it's known as the stone tape theory, where it's thought that the walls absorb or record what went on, if that tape recording that was sent to police had been questioned he might have been caught quicker, I remember women getting really angry about our liberty being restricted as police were telling us not to go out, I'm not surprised you didn't want to hang around that flat, this was a brilliant vlog Ant, thanks for filming it, I am one of your biggest fans. xxx

Just catching up. A tragic story respectfully told. It was a time that affected everybody in the general area. I remember the police coming to our house one evening, to interview my dad, as he had the same type of van - a Morris Minor in petrol blue, that had been seen. We had posters on the walls at school too. I can’t help think that more competent policing would have solved this sooner. May all his victims rest in peace. 💐

A lass I went out with from Yorkshire told me her auntie was left for dead after being hit over the head by (who they thought) was ripper as somebody heard the noise and scared him off.
