  • I decided to make a Documentary about The Manchester Pusher ....
I trawled the canal network of Manchester to get a better understanding of the cases that have been widely publicised through many media outlets.
I have watched many documentaries on the subject, read many accounts and listed to hours of podcast on this very suspicious case.
It's much controversial subject that over a decade later it is still splitting opinions!

Another great video from Daft Monkey! This one honestly gave me goosebumps, you’ve got a great way of story telling Ant. I think it’s great you’ve brought this to the attention of your followers, I hope it brings to light how dangerous some places are at night especially when you’ve had a drink. I personally think it’s a combination of muggings gone wrong and drunken accidents. It’s also got me thinking what if there was a person seeing all the attention The Pusher was getting (if they were real or not) and decided to become the pusher because of that? Interesting thought. Jack The Dripper on the wall was very creepy too. I love how you have an eye for stuff like that, that most people wouldn’t spot. Love when you do true crime type videos! Can’t wait to see what you’ve got next :)

Also, if these were all accidents, why only men? Out of the 100+ that have died, not a single woman having an "accident"? Why? In my experience, after a few drinks, women are a LOT more vulnerable, staggering around, and seem to take more risks than men. That's a massive inconsistency surely?

That was a very dark part of Manchester's evolving history. I only hope we've got through the final chapter and there will be no more mysterious deaths like that. I can't get the thought of that poor mother's ordeal hearing her son's terrified screams out of my mind. I agree that improved barriers and cctv might make that place more secure. Anthony, please don't go near dangerous places like that alone!

I think a lot of muggings is a bit part of this. Late night party goers walking alone is a prime target, especially walking down a dark canal side, so sad for the people who have lost their life, I could see how alert and jumpy you was filming this and in broad daylight, a place you definitely wouldn’t want to walk at night. As a Grtr Manchester resident for over 30 years and a canal boater for 12 years, regularly visiting Castlefield basin which is beside the 'Rochdale nine' locks and having walked and boated through this part of the system, I can fully appreciate that part of this route, described, in the vid, can be scary and dangerous.
Manchester City Council should feel ashamed, proper fencing should be erected along the 'Tow' path side, the narrow 'gunnels' should be made inaccessible, the drug dealers and the males actively having same sex during daytime should be discouraged... this is supposed to be a tourist resort...people and their kids shouldn't have to witness this.
If the underground parts of this canal system path were to be gated and locked during the evening/ then perhaps it would mean safety would increase and hopefully less young men will lose their lives.
The city Council, in my opinion, have failed to appreciate the historical importance and potential tourist attraction to the area from and including Castlefield, to Piccadilly (and beyond).
They only have to look at... and ask how Birmingham have managed this soo..well in comparison.
My heart goes out to to families of their loved ones, sons, grandsons, wives, girlfriends and friends who have lost somebody close to them on the canal and rivers in Gtr Manchester.
    PaulB.

Ended up stumbling across your video as someone who I work with has gone missing and his belongings have been found alongside the canal. After being convinced for years that there is foul play and something sinister happening around the Manchester canals I can’t help but think that my missing work colleague has also fell victim to some kind of foul play. I hope and pray I am wrong and he returns back to his family safe and well. Since this video there has also been other missing men gone missing and then body’s found weeks later in the canal. Including the fireman who was water trained. Always staying vigilant when we walk the dogs on media city. Thanks for this video I am glad you are bringing it to peoples attention. Jack the Dripper graffiti in that alley kinda goes cap in hand with the famous The Goulston Street graffit during the Jack the Ripper murders of 1888. Both written in alleyways, possibly by the hand of the murderers?

As a straight female who has been down Canal Street and the park over the bridge I’ve spoken to a couple of homeless lads who use a younger lad as bait for men looking for someone underage. The young lad would entice the mark down to one of the tunnels where the other two would be waiting to beat and mug him. Could some of these mugging have gone wrong and the victim gone in the water? I’d say it’s more than likely. Given the reason they were down there (for an encounter with a 15yr old) survivors aren’t likely to go to the police

Another awesome video Anthony, a lot of research went into that one. I had heard about people being pushed into the canal around canal street but I never realised just how many! I am inclined to think that maybe its not one pusher but rather a lot of different assaults and accidents. You made a very good point when you showed us how much of the canal is unprotected by railings or guards of some kind. You expect to see open canals and towpaths in the countryside but why would you have an unprotected canalside in the city centre with nightclubs and bars fronting it?? Unbelievable. I wonder if the victims are being robbed? They would be easy targets heavy in drink and walking alone down the canal side. Once again well done mate, Great video.

Totally agree with you regarding the Victorian Arhitecture . The problem with councils is that they are 1. incapable of managing the annual budgets . 2. They are too busy funding needless things . 3. They are too preoccupied with fiddling expenses and taking back handers for tenders . 4. They are more interested in finding new ways to fine people than making the streets ( canal paths in this case) safer. ..Finally Build Quality in new build houses , apartments and general architecture is at an all time low IMO. Rant over 🤣..Excellent work once again .Thankyou for shining a light on this mysterious story 👍

I think there is probably not one single cause. Some will be accidents, some will be foul play. Are the foul play ones linked? Who knows? Could there be copycat incidences where people hear of "The Pusher" and go out and try their luck in some sadistic kind of fun? Dismissing people as being drunk is a bit judgemental. People are capable of going out for drinks and that doesn't make them automatically pissheads or completely out of it. Firstly Anthony, although I loved your video (as always), you've covered it now and I wouldn't recommend you going down there too often! I've walked along most of those stretches and have refrained from going back to some of them. As you highlight, they are too dark and isolated in parts with very narrow paths and as you say few railings. It's nerve wracking when others approach in the opposite direction and you have to navigate passing each other in such conditions. My heart is in my mouth when cyclists rush by. I pass some of those locations twice daily, it always makes me think. Any canal wandering I do now is kept limited to the more popular used areas. As for it being a canal pusher, I'm unsure. Could a few originally have been genuine accidents? there are a lots of clubs and bars right along those inner City stretches, who knows. Could a few that then followed be muggings? lets face it, once the idea of a pusher arose, a mugger chancing his luck may think any suspicion would allude them in favour of the pusher? Who knows. or will ever know until firm evidence is obtained. I do however, suspect the police know more than they admit too, just my opinion. The mystery remains unsolved. God bless the victims and their families.
All that said (sorry for the essay ha!), well presented, filmed & edited as always. Interesting points raised on sides of the story, and as always, despite the dark subject a little humour in your very down to earth approach.Had to chuckle when your use of the word intoxicated changed to 'pissed up' in one part, haha.
Well done yet again. Look forward to the next x

Born in 2006 and grew up in Manchester and always heard of 'the pusher'. And although I do think that some were due to alcohol and drugs, I do think at some point a pusher existed, possibly multiple. Just the other week someone tried to push me into the Rochdale Canal, it was daylight and he looked like he was on drugs so I walked past him faster and narrowly missed his push. After I got a bit past him, to make sure he wasn't following me, I looked back and he was just kicking the wall. Odd guy.

Another great video Anthony. Watching a popular narrow boating channel, where he went down these very same canals and ran into discarded needles and strange denizens lurking in the shadows, its not too hard to see that most of these deaths were accidents, and some were an act of murder. It's too bad really, because narrow boaters seem to be a growing community and Manchester has a lot of canals. Hopefully with the increase of boaters some of these canals can be cleaned up and brought back into service. I don't believe it is a single pusher, but perhaps the work of a copycat(s). Here in the U.S. where we have no crime... LOL. No. here in the U.S. we have plenty of it and it's not uncommon for one unique crime to set off a chain of others that are similar. I am with you on adding more handrailing along the footpaths, "I am working on a handrailing project right now at work." I think some of the existing handrailing down at the canals should be upgraded or the very least be sand blasted and painted so they are easier to see in the dark.

Great production DM, I love the pacing of this , visuals and narration spot on as usual 👍
Now then, what a story, I personally don't think a serial killer is responsible however the Reynhard sinaga case opened all our eyes and I certainly think his style of crime could explain some of the deaths , the others being robberies where the victims have been pushed in,possibly kept in. Or fell in trying to escape..tragic! 😔
Next category would be drunk people trying to cross at locks, trying to cross parts thinking its shallow, or simply falling in due to no rail and bad lighting, again tragic.
Going back to Reynhard, I know it's a horrible story to think about but I think his victims probably go up to multiple hundreds, the nature of his crime leaving lots of victims who will never speak out..or maybe can't..
Also the lack of or bad quality of the CCTV in nearly all cases is shocking 😳
Well done mate! Smashed it again 👍💯💥💥

I used to live near a stretch of the Grand Union, one night walking back from the pub with my then boyfriend just as we neared a bend he insisted that we go back and walk home via the street because he felt something was wrong. Local paper a few days later had an article about a body being found in the canal around that bend the morning after we were there. It was later ruled an accident apparently. No idea why my then boyfriend became so suddenly afraid but he potentially saved our lives that night.
I now live by the River Lea and despite being very shallow in most places there's been a few deaths most recent being last month, all suicides apparently. I don't particularly believe that many people would opt to try and drown themselves in a few inches of water.
A couple of years ago my friends brother went to Amsterdam for a long weekend, he disappeared the first day there, on what would have been his last day his body was found in the canal next to the hotel he was staying in, a place that had already been searched... another accident apparently.

I agree that we are talking about a combination of legitimate accidents and foul play. I find ot interesting that there are so many similarities to the American Smiley Face Killers. A scream on the telephone, belongings stacked at the side of the waterway, bodies disappearing for weeks but only in the water for days. But what could possibly link deaths in the UK and America ?

I do not believe that all these guys "just" fell in the river and died accidentally. I never will. Also it may be possible that more than one assailant is involved. I think some of these are thrill killings that are meant to appear to be muggings.
I think the police may have an official stance of the pusher not being real, but I am sure the police themselves es are divided over this. Is the one officer who made those remarks still with the department? Police officers are often subject to retaliation by superiors and colleagues when things get tense jn the department.

There is another strange case in the United States that is called the Smiley Face murders. All young people, mostly young men, between the ages of 18 and 25, that have been found in the waterways in many cities that have been rulled accidental or drowning (although there is no water in the lungs) and showing signs of bruises and other injuries that cannot be explained by falling in the water. Ligature marks and other signs of some type of control and the bodies showing very little decomposition even after being missing for 3 or 4 weeks before the bodies are found. There is always a smily face spray painted on a wall very close to where the body is located.

Great work as always Mr. 🐒. My thoughts and prayers are with the families. My personal opinion is that there was/is a Serial killer to blame for these murders. I think the police would be wary of admitting such a thing as it could start a backlash of publicity and hype spreading fear amongst the local community (such as it is the Centre of Town). You make a good point about the Evil B@st&£d jailed for all those Drugging murders, I think it is possible to be his work. Although I’m not sure when the last case was. Brilliant mate really.

Thanks so much paddy and excellent points raise there mate. Yeah I really couldn’t rule out a pusher and if he was caught it wouldn’t surprise me. We live in a very wicked world at times. Yeah, potentially raynard sinaga could be to blame for a number of them ? But it doesn’t explain the cases after his incarceration, although it has quieted off a little. Like you said mate, I think the old bill know more than they let of but if they admitted it there would be a media frenzy. Thanks for the feedback and points mate I really do appreciate it. Take care paddy 👍🏼⭐️

After watching this video and also watching the documentary made in 2018 it called possibly be a series of muggins gone wrong in some cases maybe just accidents with people being too drunk but it could also be the work of a serial killer called a pusher when victims have lost their mobile phones and their wallet s is it the pusher making them and them over keeping them as trophies A lot of serial killers have been known to do that so I think the police need to investigate it more Hank for a great video and I will definitely be looking into getting research in it more

The same reports are coming from Wigan too with the same things being said, could there be a link there? In fact there are similar conversations going on in Leeds and Liverpool, an 86 year old man was found deceased in the canal in Leeds and police are still trying to identify a man found in the canal in Liverpool.

I agree with you on the the case of David meeting his untimely death at the hands of others … as for the others I think it’s likely that they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. And they have been assaulted and killed in the process
Down here we have no barriers at all along our canal network.
Some very dodgy places along the canal all up and down the country.

I do think that the Chinese guy that got locked up in Manchester fro drugging and raping men had something to do with some of these deaths. I'm not aware of any deaths since he has been behind bars

Also... WHY doesn't the Council invest in a full network of CCTV along the canal network?
WHY are there areas with no guard rails whatsoever?
One can only conclude that the authorities are complicit in these deaths.

I totally agree mate, it’s a massive factor into why these incidents occur. Many of them could have been prevented if the correct equipment was put into place. Thanks for watching the video and taking the time to comment. It’s much appreciated 👍🏼
