Rivet replacement fasteners (bolts/nuts):
The 11mm head flange nuts are sitting on M6 screws, which, per standards, should be 10mm heads, but this is Ford, so, what's a standard?
So, your options are:
Cheapest option are 1/4" SAE fasteners. You've got two different thread pitch options, 20tpi and 28tpi (20 being a coarser thread), but either should work just fine. 1/4"-20x3/8" is like 9.5mm long, so that shouldn't be an issue, but if you want it a bit longer, than a 1/4"-20x1/2" is 12.7mm long
M6 x 1.0 x 10 bolts (6mm shank, 1.0mm thread, 10mm long) - these will fit with no problem, but you'll now have (4) 11mm nuts and (6) 10mm nuts, if that bothers you.
Third option, and what I did, was sourcing some M7 x 1.0 x 10 bolts and M7 nyloc nuts. I had to hog out the door holes and regulator mounting holes a hair (3/8" drill bit), but now all of my fasteners are 11mm head.
thank you Brian Harris for the information on the bolts. I didn't want to use rivets now I have options. you rock!
Thanks for checking us out. Have a great day.
I love watching 1A Auto channel. Gives me other ideas on how to do things. I never thought about using bolts and nuts to install regulators. I've alway used rivets if that's what it came with. Thanks for that idea.
Thank you so much honestly it was explained pretty good and I didn't have a hard time putting it back
@routerpimp Thank you for checking us out, and also for your purchase. The auto roll down feature is enabled by the switch.

This was my first DIY project with a car and it was a breeze with your instruction. Thank you. Next job is to figure out the problem and fix my power driver seat.
Thanks for watching. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Your video made what initially looked like a complete PITA on my '99 F-150 a simple procedure. Can't thank you enough. Since my motor was fried, I could not lower the window. Even so, the top 2 bolts are easily accessible with a little touch and feel with a 1/4 drive ratchet and 11mm socket (be sure to tape the window securely in place beforehand). Once I had the rivets drilled out and the 2 lower nuts removed, the entire assembly popped right off (I could not get the top of the assembly off the widow frame beforehand due to tension). Replaced the rivets with 1/4-20x1/2 hex washer bolts. I did have to temporarily connect the assembly in order to raise the top bracket back to near where the window frame sits on re-installation. The entire job took barely over an hour from removal to replacement. Ordered the part from 1Aauto, came in 2 days (best price on the internet and no shipping), fit perfect and works perfect. Customer for life.

You should be able to change just the motor if that's the only thing wrong with it. Here's a link to them on our website. Just copy and paste into your browser 1aauto.com/1A/WindowMotors/Ford/Expedition/-/-/1997?ATony
The video turned a dreaded job into an easy one. I installed a brand new regulator and motor assembly in the front passenger door of my 1999 Expedition between my morning and afternoon work shifts. Total cost...$75. Many thanks!
Thanks 1aauto, I just saved a ton because of your video. I bought my regulator/motor from napa & of course they didny tell me that there were 6 rivets holding it in place so I used my dremmel to cut the heads off the punched it out with a screw driver....then I needed help with finding out how to put the new one in by the motor & thats when I found your video on how to install, it helped me out very much. you are the man.
Glad we could help you out. Here's a link to the window regulators that we offer on our website for your 2001 Lincoln Navigator in case you need another down the road. 1aauto.com/1A/WindowRegulators/Lincoln/Navigator/-/-/2001?ATony
@hjones12150207 No problem at all. Thanks for checking us out. Have a great day!
Used this video to replace my window regulator. Works great. Watch out for the lifting spring, there are no stops on the oem regulator when replacing just the motor. I will buy parts in the future from these people just because of this video, which really helps
Yep people listen to this dude .. I literally almost just cut my finger off have to wrap it up with 4 band aids because I cut the nail off completely the spring has lots of tension on it .
Awesome vids, I've used 3 of them so far. Has saved me tons in labor compared to garage!
Thank you so much. Before this video I knew nothing about taking out or replacing but after viewing this video the whole job was simple with no problems.
+usmarine76 Thanks for checking us out. Shop here for high quality auto parts: 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
You may want to first test the wire going to the window motor to see if there's power going to it. If there is it may be the window motor that has gone bad. Also check the fuses to see if any of them are blown.
Thanks for the vid very helpful! going to have to try that when its not so cold lol
thanks much my window came off track in my 98 expedition and its too cold here for me to do too much and this helped me to put it back on track
I didn't finish they are a great chanelle
great video and I'm ordering the regulator for my truck ASAP
We do carry just the window motors on our website if the window regulator is good. You may be able to take it off of the regulator inside of the door.
Thank you for the feedback
@Cobramlw I really can't tell but it does sound like you put in the spring wrong. It could also be the joints in your regulator are worn, I always recommend replacing the motor and regulator at the same time.
well done on the video. will refer to this when i replace my motor.
Thanks for another great vid! Gonna use it to help my neighbor on his '99 Navigator, he's gonna owe me one now, sweet!
You're welcome! Thanks for the feedback! +Gentelman Junkie
Great video!
@98offroadFORDexpo I beleive the are m6 1.5 cm long with 10mm head.
Thank you so much !
There's not really a specific size, probably like 1/4" bolts may work.
How long of a bolt?
After drilling out the Rivets with a 3/8 bit, What size pop rivet do I use to secure the regulator back in place
Thank You, very very very very very very much! I just paid someone to mess this up for me! I will go it alone this time.
what size are those bolts? i can finally do this since i just got my regulator.
11mm
you dont have door speakers thanks for the video i will dive into this tomorrow
Great video. Nice and clearly informative. I have a bad passenger-side window motor on a '97 F150 - is that part replaceable without pulling the whole regulator assembly out as well?
Thanks
Great video that told me EVERYTHING I needed to know. My problem is that the window keeps popping out of the holds/clips on the regulator arm. One of them is really waller'd out, so it won't stay in the clips, even with epoxy. Does 1aauto sell those clips?
@98offroadFORDexpo I'd use bolts as well.
hey Mike i took the door panel off. the motor works good the problem is the window wont stay secure in the clips they have silicone holding the window in the bracket. i dont know if that is how its supposed to be or not thanks
I Got Mine out Thanks for the Advice and Showing how to do it,,, I Baught the motor regulater and the track thats everything for $30 Bucks
+David Brantley Thank you for the great reply. We love to empower our customers by showing you how-to perform your own auto repairs while installing our high quality auto parts. Have a great day! 1aauto.com
Mike why can't I find a power window regulator for my 1988 Ford Econoline E250 campervan? do you carry it for driver and passenger side? if so what is the part number so I can get them ordered from you. Thanks for all your effort and work in making my auto repairs easier and having great prices on your parts and your fast shipping! Merry Christmas to you and your family! and Have a Happy New Year!
@1aauto thanks. my regulator kit came with rivets. should i just put those back in or do you recommend bolts? expeditionforum says use bolts but i just wasnt sure.
They might be held in with some glue. The dealer may be able to tell you if your application requires glue to hold it in place.
amazing vid. received the item just a few days back installed in minutes, only thing is the window comes off the clamps, I have tried to glue it back on unsuccessfully, what kind of glue (or any other idea ) would you guys recommend to finally fix my window?
If you go to a local auto body supply store, they should be able to provide you with the correct glue to hold the window in place. If there isn't one in you area, your local auto parts store may also have it for you. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
Received my replacement parts from 1AA and am about to start the repair. When replacing the rivets with nuts/bolts what size are you using? It's hard to tell from just watching the video.
We currently do not carry the clips for that particular vehicle.
When replacing the window motor what size hardware is used to secure it to the frame or what size pop rivet is used.
@98offroadFORDexpo I used M6 1.0X12MM and they worked fine. The only thing I did different on the install was install all the bolts with the nut on the outside (not interior to the door.)
This video was extremely helpful and also got me to buy my regulator and motor from 1AAuto :)
One thing that I noticed does not work any more is my 'auto' roll down. Was the 'auto' roll down a function of the original motor or is that a function of the door switch?
IS it just a good idea to get the regualtor and the motor? Not sure what is going on with mine other than it doesnt work? Great videos!
is there any way to pull the glass up if it has dropped to the bottom of the door? My glass is totally off track.
awesome vid's thank you!
Thank you for watching!

Q: so you're saying if the bolts are loose or come undone your window regulator will not work properly which sometimes can cause your window to malfunction
Nice video. Looking for a 98 f150 how to blend door fix.
We currently do not have an auto repair video for this particular repair. We'll keep this request in mind in the event that we need to make this repair in the future. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Is this basically the same for the back doors?
Did exactly what you did except for putting rivets back in lol but it work though...thanks
+Chad Hill Thank you! We love empowering our customers and showing how to perform DIY auto repairs with our high-quality auto parts. 1AAuto.com
What kind of bolts can I use instead of rivets to re-install the regulator??
thanks mike.
No problem. Glad to hear it helped you out. 1aauto.com?TH-cam&CTA%20Comment&ATony 866-403-3393
I was replacing the motor and when I removed the motor from the regulator the tension spring behind the motor came out witch way should it go in? my new motor is loud like its trying to hard to roll up the window... should i get a new motor or did i put the tension spring in wrong?
I'll try this again - it wouldn't post B4. I have the panel off, the window will not stay in the clamps. It pulls out when I open it, about halfway down. Are they glued in ? Can those clamps the window rests in be squeezed tighter?
This also is the same for 01 lincoln navigotor window regulator .
What size bolts did you use to replace the rivet . The kit I have didn't come with them
Did you ever get an answer to this? I'm waiting to install my kit.
why wont you answer this question
+Jeron Rawlings You should be able to get some small bolts with nuts and washers from your local hardware store. If you bring the regulator with you, you should be able to easily match them up
1A Auto Parts that doesn’t say what size but was used
Did anyone ever get the length on the bolts? I have to do my front and back window this weekend? YAY!!
What size bolts are you using
how many teetb does the motor have 9 or 10
Where is the video showing how to remove it and what size bolts did you use
If the motor only works in one direction off and on the switch, it may be a bad window motor.
What size bolts did you use to hold the regulator in? Im doing the same thing but with a 2001 Navigator.
Nvm found a previous comment with the same question.
i just recieved the window motor and regulators for my 2001 ford f150. i do have a question. are they ready to install as they come? i do notice that the motors are attatched to the gears on the regulator in different spots. would that make a difference on how the window goes up or down. any help on how the motor is supposed to be attached to the regulator would be greatly appreciated
There is no need to prep them, you can install them right out of the package. Have a great day! 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
there is two little indents in the door panel just drill that out and change motor only this is the hardest way there is that your doing
just replaced my regulator / motor assembly was easy but, when I roll the window down the bar that the glass is attached to twists and the glass pops out of the holders. any ideas??
+John Svensson We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Also how do you know if its the regulator or the motor? The motor makes noise but the window doesn't move. Its stuck in the down position.
You may want to remove the door panel so that you can take a look inside the door to see if something may have broke on the window regulator. If you do need a new window regulator for your Ford F150, here's a link to the ones that we carry on our website. If you select your year, it will narrow the search down to your vehicle year for you. www.1aauto.com/ford-f150-truck-window-regulator/mo-c/1521-16?TH-cam&CTA%20Comment&ATony
Right rear f350 97 motor window vidio
my motor is broken, can I (if so how) manually lower the window and leave it like that for now?'
+lukesk8z26 Thank you for checking us out. You will be able to manually lower the window, but you would want to secure it so it doesn't fall if at all up. We recommend disconnecting the power to the motor and attempt to lower, and if that doesn't work you would (with the help of another) disconnect the motor from regulator to relive the pressure. 1aauto.com
My lock actuator is in the way of the window regulator and hits when it goes almost all the way down, what do I do?
+Myles Harper We do not have a way of being able to diagnose the issue that you are experiencing with your vehicle but suggest taking it to a local mechanic for a proper diagnosis.
YOU NEED TO LINK FOR CONTINUITY BETWEEN PART 1 AND PART 2 OF YOUR VIDEOS
otherwise, thank you- I ordered and will be replacing per your website and instruction.
Is this the same for the f150 truck???
Thank you for watching. This video will work for your application.
1aauto.com 888-844-3393
What do you do if the window is stuck all the way down?
+Joey H I have attached a link to our video that better explains it for you. th-cam.com/video/FUCLO6_VQEg/w-d-xo.html
what size bolts and nuts did you use to replace the rivets with.
+Bulldog Motorsports They should be 11mm bolts.
I like your video but you have no inside shots of what we should see. The more camera angles of views the better for people under standing. But thank you. I'll have to research more. Thx
Thank you so much honestly it was explained pretty good and I didn't have a hard time putting it back
