1A Auto shows you how to repair, install, fix, change or replace a broken, smashed, cracked, or shattered rear side view mirror. This video is applicable to 1997 Ford Expedition. This procedure is basically the same as any 97 to 02 Expedition, plus the 97, 98, 99, 00, 01, 02, and 03 Ford F150 pickup truck.

My son and I just did this on our Ford Expedition and it was very helpful however, there is a third screw behind the window switch bezel that needs to be removed before the panel will just lift off. It drove us nuts for a while until we discovered it! Also, you really don't need to remove all the latch hardware and everything to replace the mirror and wire/plug. Once you remove the speaker and peal the shield back part way the mirror wire and plug are easily accessible. Thanks!

I just bought a non-heated, powered mirror from you guys and the part is very cheap at only $40 even with the chrome accent.
I like how you list all the tools used with links to buy and also the part itself linked to buy. The link to buy is also fast/seamless like a Amazon.com purchase. -So nice work all around.
The only thing I would add is maybe explaining more the plugs are different for non-heated/heated to make sure people choose the correct one.

Thanks, this video helped me out a lot. When I finally got around to installing the mirror I ordered, I realized my door panel was slightly differently designed than the one in this video (I'm not sure if it was because it was a Triton or what, either way it was a 2002 F150). But having seen you take it all apart gave me the confidence to just get at it, and it was really pretty easy to figure out what to pull off and where the screws that held the panel in place were - the only thing that tripped me up was the mirror control connection being a little finicky to unhook. Took me about 45 minutes all told and I could probably easily do it it 15-20 the next time I would have to do it. In addition to the savings by not having a pro do it and pay the shop rate, it just feels good to gain a little know-how and be able to do things like this yourself.
Was able to do it without removal of plastic shield and speaker...just tie a string to the old wire and when you pull it out, tie it to the new wire...saved a lot of time!

My question is, if the glass piece only broke and is actually completely removed (in a ditch somewhere), can just a new glass part be replaced? And if so can I buy just the glass piece?

The plug ends and pinning inside the two plugs may be different if the options are not the same.

Great video. Mine had just one more screw behind the power window switch cover.
I just replaced the passenger side in a 2000 XLT and found there was a screw that needed to be removed behind the power window/door lock panel. I also found it was unnecessary to remove the door handle as I only needed to peel the water shield back enough to access the wiring. harness and plug.

How do I pull the cover off the mirror
Wow, so much work just for a mirror? What happened to "three screws on the outside and done"? Have we regressed so much from an engineering standpoint? I know I am going to snap off plastic clips doing it. What spares should I order before I begin?

Why do I need to remove the handle, speaker and everything else, when it seems like you only need to peel back the insulation at the mirror electrical connector?

Can you separate the glass from the assembly housing? I have a 2000 Navigator with heated glass. The glass is good but the housing is cracked.
+harleybluesbiker Thanks for watching! We do not have a video on that particular repair at this time. If the housing is cracked then it will probably be easier to just replace the entire assembly. Removing mirror glass can be risky, as the glass is prone to crack in the process.

Hello, I get an ford expedition 1997 Eddie Bauer and both mirror side are with non glass, I found ones of the f150 it's the same mirror but not the same bracket, did you had any video how to remove the bracket and put the old ones??? I need help ASAP

can you put a manual mirror on instead of a power mirror?

This door is not much like my 97 ford f-150. It is a Lariat edition so maybe that is why.
my 03 F150 is all one piece. there is no option to remove the piece where you started
+cucarrell1 You can remove the entire panel after removing the bolts/screws and the other trim pieces keeping the panel on the door
