I bought a door clip tool and followed this to do the same door on our 2003 Malibu. The main snag was the lack of a clear understanding of how the lifting clip attached to the window channel (my old one had broken in the failure and I had never seen an intact assembly.) After many trials and prayers, I called on a neighbor who retired from selling used cars. He put the clip in the channel with no problem. Everything went on and off just like the video.

Very helpful video, thank you. In my case both rear windows were stuck closed but you could hear the motors run. What happened was that each of the rectangular aluminum clamps that hold the glass for the sliding mechanism that pushes up & pulls down on the windows had come off and fallen into the door space. I cleaned the remaining adhesive and the part of the glass where it sticks, squeezed some clear silicone adhesive caulk into each piece, and stuck them back on. I also greased the rails where the slide mechanism goes. Scotty Kilmer has a great video about spraying silicone lubricant into the window guide to eliminate the friction that can break your window motors & parts, so after fixing & greasing the motor assemblys I cleaned way down in the window seals, removing a lot of dirt & pine needles, then I sprayed the window guides generously with silicone lube. With some maintenance, cleaning, adhesive caulk, and silicone spray, both my rear windows are back in action.
We do not have an auto repair video that shows you how to do this. Usually you can remove the glass out of the top of the door. You have to unbolt it from the window regulator first though. Hope this helps you out.
Thank you so much for this! I had a rear one replaced last year and it was $400 at the shop. Now I had my other side go out and my passenger front is starting to die. I was scared to do it myself but was able to replace rear passenger following this. Strangely enough, all my regulators are going out except my driver window is still going strong.

When I did this, I had a problem that Mike didn't have: the access slot for the two bolts in the center of the door wasn't big enough for the socket to fit through, so I had to use a drill to ream the hole big enough for the socket to fit through the panel.

great video i am going to try to get this done on my 2002 malibu but i do have another issue with it, the signal on left side blinks faster than it should, i have been told that it is the cable on the rear drivers side light, i was told that it was going to set me back $110 bucks no way, i know i can get it done for less do you have any videos about that
This was a struggle since I chose the cheap third party one. The clip is an oval instead of a square like the OEM one, and was very hard to get in. I had to basically screw the top bolt in, lower the regulator so the clip was on the lower third, aligned the window piece, and hammered it in/used the window switch to get it in there by pulling the regulator towards the window slide in portion. And then it was low quality and the motor was welded diagonally so i had to pull it towards the metal door panel that was blocking it and force the bolts in. Not a great time, get a higher quality one.
Hey not sure the LS versions have different screws, but my girls 99 malibu ls had a security bit for the door handle bezel. easy enough I had an allen wrench that fit into anyways. Thanks for the video
Hey, i was wondering: does it matter which rear side the window regulator goes on? Because online some regulators are listed as "Rear Driver" although my window regulator needs to replaced on the rear passenger side. Does it matter or are all 97-03 regulators the same regardless of which side needs replacing?
I just received the regulator, got everything installed and it seemed to be working but then the bracket came off of the window. It appears as if it was only held on with adhesive. What is the best glue/procedure to fix this? 2002 Chevy Malibu
