1A Auto shows you the procedure for replacing a power window mechanism on a 1997 Ford Expedition. This procedure is generally the same for most 1997-02 Expedition and Lincoln Navigator as well as the 97, 98, 99, 00, 01, 02, and 03 Ford F150.

Seems like a pretty good video but all I needed to know is how to remove the door panel. I was struggling for a very long time after following your instructions. Couldn't figure out how your panel came off so freely after taking out the screws. I followed every step in your video. Then I went to another TH-cam video and watched another guy remove the same panel you removed. I found that you left out a very very crucial step. In fact the step is so crucial that without it, it's virtually impossible to remove the panel. There is a screw directly behind the window/door lock switch panel once it's removed. This screw is hard to see unless you bend down and look up in the panel. The screw is one of the main two screws that secures the panel to the door. Thanks for taking me to the point that you did. I didn't have to replace my regulator thankfully, but this video did help me find out that my window just came un-glued. Thanks
HI Glenn, Once you have the window free from the regulator you may have to grab the rear corner of the glass and pull it out through the top of the door, if you need to change it. The can be tricky to get out sometimes.
Great! I watched this video and said i got this! Then when i took the last screw out of the motor, that's when i realized it was spring loaded! Right after it dang near cut my frickin fingers off!
BE CAREFUL, if your just changing the motor, when removing the motor!!!!!!!!! I have a nice cut across two knuckles because i got in a hurry and wasn't thinking about that spring load!
Same thing happened to me those window regulators are super dangerous
This video does not cover removing the window motor from the regulator. This video covers removing your regulator and motor assembly then replacing that with another motor and regulator assembly. If you are removing your motor from your regulator take care as your regulator has a tension spring and the regulator will SNAP to an open position as you remove the motor.
@metalrulz9510 You may want to take the door panel off, and see if there's anything bound up on the window regulator,or test the wire going to the window motor with a test light to see if there's power going to it.
@1aauto thanks man!! but I got it fixed already. I took the whole thing out, loosened the motor off its base, opened the regulator wide, set the spring, put the motor back on, and then just started it and it tightened itself. Lol hope I explained it right. The process took me about 20 min.

@Cattnip007 Drill the regulator rivets out. Lift up the window and reg until you can get to the ones on the window.

Great Video. This was my FIRST ever car project and it went pretty well. The only issue I had was trying to get the bottom right hand nut in behind the motor. I would suggest taping the nut in on the back? Other than that, I did it!
@bwd1963 Most people do not have a rivet gun. So bolts may be used in their place. Hope this helps you out.
@cannibal566 You would have to carefully coil it back up with a set of pliers, and hook it back onto the regulator.

@MrZmang1995 You should be able to push it up and them tape the window up into place so that you can get at the bolts.

This was a great help! I have the panel off and all the electrical disconnected. The regulator is working fine, as is the motor. BUT the window will not stay in the clamps on the regulator when it opens. It keeps pulling out. It's fine going up and does not seem to bind. Can the clamps that hold the window be closed more ?
Description states 2003 Expedition. The 2003 Expedition is totally different, this video is good up the 2002 I believe.
what size bolts did you use?
Hi, do you need to re-install the gray "backing" (it usually plastic in other cars)? Is it needed? It's hard to take it off without destroying it. Or do I need to replace this too?

I have a 03 F150. Passanger window went down, but only up through drivers door switch. Now it will not go up or down from passanger side but works perfect from drivers door. Can you tell me what part I need to replace. Thanks
I am in the process of doing this for my 98 expedition. I got to step 2 and I can not get the wiring harness plugs to come out. They feel like they are glued in. I was able to remove the one connected to the lock button but the other 2 will not budge what do you suggest?

Allen Herrick I have an 01 F-150, R FT Window was frozen and while trying to work the window down something broke and the regulator now goes up or down without the window moving, what part do you think broke and what part needs to come out to fix the problem?? Thank you for watching! You are going to need to remove the door panel. When the panels off you can see if it is the regulator that broke or the tabs on the bottom of the window.

what could be wrong with my window if when it roll it uo or down it makes an awful clunking noise. all bolts and screws are tight and secure, window clips are secure, and the track is clean from what i can see.

just wondering how to get a piece of glass out of a 1998 expedition with a clip that came off, need to replace the window, however no one has a video for that.
How to replace motor for driver side window on 01 expedition?
Do you have a video on the 2004 Ford Expedition? My window fell completely down and there's no leverage I can get to get the window from the bottom, and it's completely hidden from the top as well.

The driver's window and the front passenger window of my 2000 Expedition make a sound like the window motor is struggling only when it's warm outside. In cold weather it doesn't make the noise. Is the window regulator the problem ?
You may want to take the door panel off to see if there's anything wrong with the window regulator. You could also add a little bit of white lithium grease to the track to see if that helps. If the window motor is tired, we carry new window motors and also window regualtors. Here's a link to them on our website. Why bolts insted of rivits that come with new part?
The spring on the regulator fell off. How do I reinstall it?????
No point of pulling the harness out of the door. I don't get that.

my window is already off the track i can raise and lower my window by taking my hand on each side of the window and moving it
