- I used a glitch called a "Credits Warp" to skip straight from the first level to the credits. By doing so I beat the game (at least by some definitions) faster than any human ever has before, in 4:49.8.

He’s creating points from an early stage map that tricks the game chip to think the player in on the final map of the game to achieve the same amount of points possible to pass thus triggering the credits. Take this with a grain of salt I am pretty high rn this is the way I’m thinking why it happened lol.

Tool assisted speedrun, TAS where a human uses an emulator to program each movement and button pressed per frame for mario. Sethbling was the first to do a human warp glitch, since everything needed to be pixel perfect.
I only first heard of this glitch today!

+Daniel Dummett They used an exploit in the game where you eat a chuck, which can basically fuck everything up. When you eat a coin and get it before it goes in yoshis mouth, the game thinks that a sprite needs to be on yoshis tounge. So the closest sprite around is the Chuck. Normally you cant eat the chuck, so you can exploit it as you wish. What he does before he eats the chuck is hes creating memory in the game so that when you eat the chuck you 'warp' to the credits.

A profesional speedruner, who knows how to break the game in a lot of diferent ways and the first person to do it on console, vs some random person on twitch. Yeah, that seems unlikely.

actually, in a perfect run whit this exact strat, maximum will be 30~40 seconds less. I don't think is possible to do less than 4:00.

The beginning stuff like the mushroom, the vine, and the explosion is so that it doesn't crash when you execute the item switch to run the code. The part that makes the RAM in a specific state are the placement of the red shells.

technical language: he made sure to set up the console's memory the right way,and completed the above instructions to beat the game in 4:49:8 which is never achieved by a human on console

I know I'm 2 years late, but..
Seth was moving pixels around in the processor's xyz plane, thus creating a chain of pixel inputs that would trick the game renderer into thinking he had beat the last level. This was thought to be only done by computers and Seth was the first human to ever achieve this glitch, although the idea was found by someone else.

+vuurmark Sethbling didnt discover it, it was another guy (and hes record was 5 minutes, which sethbling just beat), and that guy discovered it by analising marios code, and he found out a way, to write memory the exact way you need to win.
