This sounds like one of those playground rumors. "Oh yeah you gotta stand in the right spot here and then throw a koopa shell and then you do spin jump and that's how you unlock luigi", You have to be at this specific spot or it won't work".
SupTestMan Member these golden days of gaming?
The rumour going around when I was a kid was that you can unlock Luigi by selecting 2 Player mode.
Joking aside, I had a couple friends who would spout rumours like this one. :P
So does the real, actual method to get General Leo in your party. In fact it even sounds crazier than the rumored ways to do it.
Trust me, my dad works for Nintendo.
and then you go home and try it for 2 hours and it doesn't work and then the kid comes to your house, does the whole maneuver flawlessly, gives you back the controller, and leaves
>Open Bus
>Get in
>Drive away clueless
That somewhat accurately sums up what happens if you trigger this glitch without setting it up exactly.
DoomRater how?
The way this glitch works is it triggers a jump to unstable RAM. If things aren't set up close to 100% perfectly the code will run into unstable commands or jump to places where it will just get stuck. Hence "drive away clueless".
DoomRater lol I get it now!
>Thank the bus driver

Id love to see a video on how you made the right half of the screen, I can't even guess how you'd get started on making something like that :-)
xisumavoid WHAT YOU HERE WHAA I LUV UR VIDS :D
reading from the memory of an emulator, throw it into a software that renders it as pixels, and record it with OBS for example.
xisumavoid watches sethbling?!?!?!?!?!!!!!
Hi X. Didn't expect you here but it makes sense i guess...
Nice to see you over here, X
This is PhD level gaming, my friends. Congratulations on your achievements.
I was just thinking "I want to know exactly how a glitch works" and this is exactly the amount of detail I was looking for. Thank you.
I came with the same question, but end up leaving with even more questions than answers xD
The redstone logo is gone, the end of an era :(
At least his former channel art and channel description remains, for now...
Yeah, as I said yesterday, I feel like it's a shame. I really liked it, and it was well established.
You_just noooooooooooo
NUUUUUUUUUUUU
:(
And the outro theme song
Man, this sh*t's crazy. I can't even to begin to comprehend the amount of work that must've gone into finding this glitch.
My guess is someone accidentally triggered this and someone with the knowledge actually took their time to dig deep
That right screen looks like when your computer bluescreens, and continues to glitch out, causing the blue screen to bluescreen.
I had such a blue screen today
SpektralJo I had a windows 10 but the text didn't load properly
I heard you like blue screens, so I put bluescreens in your bluescreens, so you can crash while you crash.
(I'm sorry, I had to)

3:58 i know bras can be expensive sometimes but man is that price is ridiculous
I thought someone made a better joke than me having to do with that
$754 LOL
snohfall how much is 02f2 anyway?
nowonmetube 0x02f2 = 754
Well if you split it up it would be $2 15 2 so $2152
Can't wait for the super original and funny comments about using armor stands.
Man those comments have been around for at least 4 years now and they just never go away...
Tomlacko ARMOUR STANDO?!?!
hey I remember making that comment ages ago
Yeah, and nothing has changed since then :D
I could have made that comment with five less redstone.
Is anyone expecting for Sethbling to just recreate the entirety of SMW using assembly code? I feel that he's broken down this game so much that he can probably remake this game from scratch.
Mike Youn probably, but i think thats illegal.
Codelingo the FBI
Probably Nintendo. They do own the copyrights
Lleer00n Argent that's*
@@lleer00na.79 it isn't illegal, if you just require the game rom to extract the assets like the sm64 decomp
Awesome video as always Seth!
Heya DPad
Lol. I thought the right side of my screen broke when I started watching.
LOL
"Explained"
I'm still clueless
Amaluna kinda need to know how code works to know how to break them. If you don't you will just be lost.
Amaluna me too
explained =/= understood
Amaluna I'm more confused than I was before.
+The Gaming Dweeb You've never programmed anything have you? Or even taken any computing class. There is no "breaking code" involved here. This is basic ASM that you would learn if you took the time to.
*pretends to understand what's going on*
Plopy tf is that my favorite mapper, Plopy -tt?
Plopy tf ah yes
What if he's just pretending to explain this?
Very nice explanation, saving the time on the turtle shells by reading the 4 controllers instead was pretty genius. Nice graphic as well, even if half the viewers probably think the TH-cam video has glitched out! Cool to see how much the program counter jumps about in normal flow.
RyanFaeScotland That's the instruction pointer ;P
but yeah
I'd love to see a video hearing your thought process during the research phase and the research itself done for coming up with this route for the glitch!
It would take me a lifetime of research to understand half this video and yet I still loved it.
These sort of extremely technical glitch methods for speedruns are probably my favorite. Such deep analysis required, in addition to the sort of perfect movements required by traditional strategies.
Bowser after watching Mario walk exactly 14.235 meters out of his front door, turn around 3 times and have Princess Peach suddenly transport back to her throne room: "WHAT IS THIS WIZARD HORSESHIT?!?"
Jesus, and I thought c pointer arithmetic was hell, man you are the memory address master.
I still don't know if I believe you
marcs I honestly find c to be more of a pain than trying to dig through memory dumps and disassembled code.
I'll admit, even though I didn't understand almost everything you said, I was still fascinated because it shows how much work goes into coding a videogame! Haha, if I close my eyes and listen to the video, I wouldn't know if the video was on a videogame, a physics lecture (using Mario as a way to explain things), a math tutorial, etc. Anyways, I really enjoyed this!
I like this explanation, and I watched a lot of TH-camrs explain this...
I liked this one a lot..
Nice Job.
I really appreciate this video because it reminds me of your old Minecraft command block videos where you would explain exactly how it worked. I never really knew how before you did, and you explaining how the creation works brings it into a place in my brain where I think that I could possibly do something like that. Thanks again for the video, and keep it up!
Nice ASM and machine code explanation! Definitely something that I'm interested in learning more about
How the hell is anyone meant to find that out, figure out how to execute it correctly, memorise it and then execute it?
@@stf29 you meant call it tas only until some mad lad proves what a god gamer he is.
@@scottrauch1261 underrated comment. This hella solves some confusion of how this was discovered
I mean they weren't _meant_ to, by any means in any way whatsoever. They just... managed it somehow.
This was incredibly interesting. Thanks for taking the time to explain more in detail the credit warp.
I feel extremely stupid watching this...
the explanation wasn't bad, but the visual assistance didn't match what he was saying, so i would say he's just a bad teacher.
some things you need a base level of understanding to grasp first, everyone's stupid when it comes to certain subjects
god you know more about how this game works than nintendo.
Nintendo MADE this game, They know everything that's possible.
James Sayian I doubt they new this was possible
James Sayian no if they knew everything about the game, they would have fixed the credits warp.
TheEmeraldBoat At this point, considering how old it is, ... probably.

One of the most impressive achievements in speedrunning history

This is on the level of “first we have to talk about parallel universes”
This is nothing compared to Majora's mask speedruns
This is actually cool af.
This is incredible. I'd love to see some tutorials from you, on anything really, I feel like you've got so much knowledge to share :)
Thank you. That was very well explained! Makes a lot more sense now.
"The original machine had a base plate of prefabulated amulite, surmounted by a malleable logarithmic casing in such a way that the two main spurving bearings were in a direct line with the panametric fan. The latter consisted simply of six hydrocoptic marzlevanes, so fitted to the ambifacient lunar waneshaft that side fumbling was effectively prevented. The main winding was of the normal lotus-o-deltoid type placed in panendermic semi-boloid slots in the stator, every seventh conductor being connected by a nonreversible tremmie pipe to the differential girdlespring on the "up" end of the grammeters."
This is super impressive! There's some really clever work right down at the metal of the game.
I love technical inner workings of anything 8-bit. I love it too much probably.
Yes, but what would a half A press look like?
I wish there was a succinct answer but first we need to talk about parallel universes.
But first let me build up speed for 12 hours.
Well tj """""""""""henry""""""""""" yoshi, hear me out

How about 0.25 a presses?
Yo this video was super cool and really helped describe some of the aspects I didn't quite get about the glitch. Thank you for making it.
Somebody hire this man. NASA, government hackers, Burger King, SOMETHING!
Burger King Ceo lol
Just amazing.. I never thought there were that many jumps involved..
I haven't checked out your channel in forever, but I'm so glad you finally changed your channel pic
Can you do a ELI5 version of this? O_o
VERY late, but here's my attempt at an ELI5 version:
The SNES is told what to do using numbers. The SNES also stores information using numbers. You can modify certain information by doing stuff in the game and trick the SNES into reading information numbers as instruction numbers.

Have you thought about delving deeper into your "Mari/o" Project? many of us have been uploading and streaming your code in action for even months now, im sure you know, but I would be honored if you watched my completion of 5-1 of SMB with your Mari/o, we plan on beating every possible level in SMB, of course some are impossible i believe in where your code sits now, i would seriously be honored to have a conversation with you about this and I hope thing are going well for you lately on your later projects and speedruns! :D
Malcolm Morin.
Have a good day bro!
Thanks for explaining this. I like the visualization.
Of the memory, I mean.
can i please get an explanation video of this explanation video?
Holy crap very information dense. Can we get a 30 min version of the explanation because I want to know how this works!
but first we need to talk abut parallel universes?

Sharon Murphy you forgot the question mark
Check out his 1 1/2 hour interview with MitchFlowerPower, that is basically what that is.
In a nutshell, he puts objects in certain locations to make the game look at code where it shouldn't be looking which causes a warp to the credits.
For a rough idea dotsarecool has a good video explaining the old route called "Super Mario World Credits Warp Explained". Allot of the video is still relevant e.g. explaining the open bus.
But... if you really want to have a really good idea, you'd probably want to first start out by getting familiar with coding in assembly languages. You could start out by downloading 32bit "Microsoft Assembler (MASM)" and following some tutorials and later writing your own programs. You should also be able to find lectures on assembly on TH-cam.
From there, by googling "65c816 Reference" you can find the instruction set for the snes.
And then, googling "SMW Central - RAM Map", you'll find a handy table with comments for what every memory address in RAM of SMW is responsible for.
After that you'll probably still need to research further into whatever parts you're still unsure on that just look like black magic e.g. The open bus.
Interesting! I really liked the way you showed the processor's memory, I wonder what it would look like if you made the same visualizer, but for a modern-day computer? The image may end up just looking like random noise or even a big grey image, but it would be neat to see any patterns that emerge due to the way computers work. Of course, if someone were to do this, they should make it an offline program, because showing such an image on a TH-cam video could lead to privacy leaks and possibly even accidental piracy and copyright issues.

when you program a game on your own,you woukd understand what it feels to have someone beating it in 45 secs
This is exactly how a glitch in the matrix works.
No seriously, THIS was always the wizardry that I thought might be possible in a game, but never be able to replicate.
I understood nothing you said, but this was fascinating
After the video, I lost my interest in doing anything, anymore.
