Hey, I'm an assistant in a special needs classroom. Earlier today, one of my students expressed nerves about the bad weather we were having. Eventually, we were called for a real-world tornado warning and had to go out in the hall. I could tell my student was scared, so I got out my phone and pulled up this video since I know they played Sonic a lot. Sat down on the floor with them and watched too. This calmed my student down and brought peace. Thank you for doing these videos and putting them up.

As someone who loves these classic sonic games, that's not even close to true. The fact that even a speedrun of this game makes you wait for cycles and push blocks and shit is proof this game doesn't actually want sonic to "go fast". This is a really impressive speedrun though

Hey TeeNTee i have a question about the first Loop, how did you accelerate in the first Loop of world 1? I tried to do it but sonic don't want to do the whole loop...he just accelerate once and than he just rans back to the left... thank you if you answer this question ^^
Korci1233 to do what he did on the loop takes months of 24/7 practice I can pull it off fist time I saw something like that was when I saw the green hill world record 24 seconds it looked impossible to do at first I was a hard-core sonic gamer then and still am its not impossible to such a thing you have to pretty intelligent and need to understand all the game mechanics like the back of your hand hope this helped I wont give away the trick to doing it though but still requires lots of skill. Its your challenge is to figure it out what's the fun in me just telling you
I love Star Light Zone, the music is so calming and the scenery is so ambient. And I like the seesaw springs. Something about running through an evening city environment.

From Description GH1 - 0:25 - as always GH2 - 0:19 - get it 50% of the time now GH3 - 0:37 - in retrospect, I should've reset, but I was so sick of resetting at that time MZ1 - 0:58 - target time is 54 but the falling blocks blocked me ;-) MZ2 - 0:11 - ohhh yeahhh MZ3 - 0:43 (0:09+0:34) - this is literally a do or die level, so 2nd try ain't too bad SY1 - 0:27 - alright SY2 - 0:40 - abysmal SY3 - 0:54 - best i've done in a SS ever LZ1 - 0:48 - best i've done in a SS ever LZ2 - 0:35 - meh LZ3 - 1:29 - best i've done in a SS ever SL1 - 0:28 - missed the zip but rest went ok SL2 - 0:32 - already failed at the approach, rest meh SL3 - 1:04 - lol, Sonic zipped too fast and broke the loop-the-loop SB1 - 0:46 - a tiny mistake during the first 12 seconds results in an instant + 5, due to the timed platform afterwards, thus i'm happy with it SB2 - 0:40 - at least i didn't fall through or get stuck (10% of the time I land on the LEFT of the elevator, which means, you cannot proceed) SB3 - 0:13 - got a pretty consistent strat, despite this zip relies on subpixels FZ - 1:14 - luckily didn't get the 2-3 pattern, with Robotnik in the 2nd, which is pretty hard to hit

I got a book in 2020 sometime in lockdown. It was an independent and unofficial guide to sonic games (the name is "We love sonic!") And, they screenshoted parts of this video for some images in the green hill zone page. I was able to find the perfect frame they used. I'm happy i found the video they used. GOOD VIDEO BTW!!
my buddy and I used to have competing speedruns, I'd call him up on the phone and we would just see who could beat the game faster. Back before playing online, literally just on the phone updating each other on how we were doing. So much classic fun!

This looked fantastic. I might try to replicate some of these glitches myself, although I'm sure it's a lot harder than it looks. The Scrap Brain Act 3 skip at least looks easy.
To this day I still don't understand what the purpose of the fight with Dr. Robotnik in Labyrinth is, to just follow him up a vertical shaft of the level, avoiding a few obstacles, and that's it? Growing up playing this game I always thought you had to defeat him before you reached the top or you drowned, and that's what always happened to me and I could never beat Labyrinth zone 3 ever as a kid. It wasn't until I was literally in my 20's that I found out you aren't supposed to fight him at all and just follow him up until the level ends. What a fucking tease that the game makes you fight him for the first 3 levels, so naturally in the fourth level climbing up after him I thought you had to hit and defeat him!

The young son always wants to be faster, bigger and greater but your father has done everything before you, so he is already there and block you. (Parents like to tell something like that everbody has to make own expereriences. Or something like if you grown up you will understand the world better.) In LZ3 it is not the beating of 'Ödipus-conflict' anymore. (Ödipus killed his father to marry his mother.) The urge symbolised by the water grows and grows and grows. You want to reach challenges in your life, live an interesting with beauty and dangerous things. But you can not go as easy as you want because your older parents want you to spend time with them like on christmas or birthday. They want to talk with you on phone, make their statements on your girlfriend or profession. So you have the very thin area of own identity because of your growing urge (IT) and your parents (Over-I).
To new players in the original Sonic game, it's not even about running. It's about learning how to pass all these obstacles. All i wanna do is run is this one but I can't because of the stupid obstacles. The only real way to play the game how it's meant to be played is to learn all the levels patterns. And that's not really fun for new players to this game. It kinda feels like Super Mario Bros to me a bit. At least is Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 they made the obstacles easier so players can actually do what Sonic is meant to do, which is run.
when I was little I was in this reck center or daycare or whatever you want to call it, now the reason I'm bringing this up because there were Therese MacBooks or some kind of pc that had old arcade games such as Tetris and this, and I played the hell out of this, when I got there was run to the computers to just play this even though I was bad at games at this time so what I'm trying to say is that this was my childhood and it's so good to see someone found cool ways to "cheat" the level and/or games.
sonic is such a good game. Reason people hate it now is because they're catering for the younger audience, meaning people who played it back in the 1990's are butt hurt that Sega don't give a shit about them anymore.

Also the 2D sections can mostly be completed just by pushing a single button. That isn't good gameplay

in 1997 i have finished this game in just 7 minutes with my sega using a glitch . press twice right one time dawn and up when stsrting the game to enable the invisible mode . and u r a great player . thnx 4 u .

Sonic Utopia shows that it can be done. Just that SEGA keeps wanting to add things when they do it. Something that has often held back modern Sonic games.

This looked fantastic. I might try to replicate some of these glitches myself, although I'm sure it's a lot harder than it looks. The Scrap Brain Act 3 skip at least looks easy.

To this day I still don't understand what the purpose of the fight with Dr. Robotnik in Labyrinth is, to just follow him up a vertical shaft of the level, avoiding a few obstacles, and that's it? Growing up playing this game I always thought you had to defeat him before you reached the top or you drowned, and that's what always happened to me and I could never beat Labyrinth zone 3 ever as a kid. It wasn't until I was literally in my 20's that I found out you aren't supposed to fight him at all and just follow him up until the level ends. What a fucking tease that the game makes you fight him for the first 3 levels, so naturally in the fourth level climbing up after him I thought you had to hit and defeat him!
Thats beautiful. Psychoanalysiswise Sonic stands for you and Dr. Robotnik for your father. The young son always wants to be faster, bigger and greater but your father has done everything before you, so he is already there and block you. (Parents like to tell something like that everbody has to make own expereriences. Or something like if you grown up you will understand the world better.)
In LZ3 it is not the beating of 'Ödipus-conflict' anymore. (Ödipus killed his father to marry his mother.) The urge symbolised by the water grows and grows and grows. You want to reach challenges in your life, live an interesting with beauty and dangerous things. But you can not go as easy as you want because your older parents want you to spend time with them like on christmas or birthday. They want to talk with you on phone, make their statements on your girlfriend or profession. So you have the very thin area of own identity because of your growing urge (IT) and your parents (Over-I).

To new players in the original Sonic game, it's not even about running. It's about learning how to pass all these obstacles. All i wanna do is run is this one but I can't because of the stupid obstacles. The only real way to play the game how it's meant to be played is to learn all the levels patterns. And that's not really fun for new players to this game. It kinda feels like Super Mario Bros to me a bit. At least is Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 they made the obstacles easier so players can actually do what Sonic is meant to do, which is run.
when I was little I was in this reck center or daycare or whatever you want to call it, now the reason I'm bringing this up because there were Therese MacBooks or some kind of pc that had old arcade games such as Tetris and this, and I played the hell out of this, when I got there was run to the computers to just play this even though I was bad at games at this time so what I'm trying to say is that this was my childhood and it's so good to see someone found cool ways to "cheat" the level and/or games.

+Zakmann02 yeah, a game where sonic turns into a warehog, which tanks the frame rage when you attack a large amount of enemies, for some reason have massively stretchy arms, and try help someone find out what their name is instead of stopping the world literally splitting in half is fun. Also the 2D sections can mostly be completed just by pushing a single button. That isn't good gameplay
