- Here we are! The War that started them all! The fifth Heat of the first ever War. Jeremy Clarkson presents, Johnathon Pearce commentates and Philippa Forrester interviews the teams. The six combatants are Bodyhammer, Reality, Torque of the Devil, Full Metal Anarack, Psychosprout and Warthog.

i have to admit, when i saw first saw psychosprout, i thought it was going to be more complex than it was when they opened it up. and yet its such a clever idea
Say whatever you want about Psychosprout, I really liked the robot and I was 5 years old when the 1st series aired. It was strange and simple but fun and entertaining at the same time. Wonder how it would've done in a battle lol, too bad the giant ball was drawn in a heat with the trickiest trial for his abilities, would've done good in British bulldog or snooker. The maze was still a cool level "Does anyone ever listen to me? Nope no one ever listens to a thing I say!" You can count me out Philippa!

Paychosprout is my fav, because it’s so weird yet so clever and I love it for that
They got the order wrong in the trials scoreboard, it should've been:
1. Full Metal Anorak
2. Reali-T
3. Torque of the Devil
4. Bodyhammer
5. Psychosprout (misspelled Pyschosprout, LOL )
WHY WOULD ANYONE MAKE A ROBOT LIKE PSYCHOSPROUT?! Were they not informed that this show was called Robot WARS? What was their plan for the Arena stage, to just roll around in circles until their opponent either suffered a spontaneous breakdown or got themselves immobilised on an arena trap?
Then again this is the First Wars, that is actually a viable strategy at this stage...
The Labyrinth was a really stupid event. There were only so many routes through the maze and a house robot could basically COMPLETELY block one just by parking their big metal ass there and blocking the way.
+ArcaneAzmadi In all fairness, Psychosprout was a breath of fresh air amongst all the wedges and boxes the first series had. It was inventive. It clearly didn't work, but it was different.

I think the main problem is its actual core, it's too unpredictable as it can only really move in accordance to how the car inside is orientated. If you had an omnidirectional method of moving it, it could be quite interesting though.

"How can you be defensive with a giant brussel sprout?"...well they get their own back on you and everyone in the room if they are eaten thats for sure...
With a well designed bearing system holding the car inside an aluminum chassis, a spherical robot would be nearly invincible. Problem is, however, that fitting any sort of weapon would be rather difficult without both off-setting the weight and making movement many times more complicated.
Sprout had the right idea with the car and framework, but things just didn't fit in well enough or move smoothly enough to let the chassis roll efficiently. Not to mention, as Acenace mentioned, it's size.
I would have had pneumatic spikes that could shoot out from all angles that could rip others to shreds if used right!

They were a *lot* more lax about safety at the beginning, weren't they?
are we sure Psychosprout WASN'T a BBC bot? All the "Filling out the numbers" bots where nothing more then RC cars with boxes over them.
Psychosprout = Remote control car in an egg
basically a more creative version of the BBC provided "bots".
Watching these are so much fun. Isn't there anywhere you can buy a VHS or DVD of any of the series?
I think Robot Wars actually is out in a DVD set. But First Wars where altered in the DVD form to feature Craig Charles and not even mention Clarkson.
Wonder what would happen if Psychosprout faced off against Razor?
Razer would have been able to punch through and destroy the RC car that powered Psychospout.
Anyone else think Psychosprout wouldve been better had it been smaller and built of metal?

+BunyipBeadsButtons I like Bodyhammer and Torque of the Devil. I mean Torque of the Devil didn't do good in The Gauntlet yet I have faith that if it gets to The Arena those weapons will do some damage.

Gavpwn I guess so, but there were bots who were pushed (or carried in Series 2 terms) backwards by the house bots and that reduction in length counted.If you want something really screwed up, look at what happened to Team Barry.
I can see why they replaced clalkson with charles. Robot doesn't work...
