- Here we are! The War that started them all! The fifth Heat of the first ever War. Jeremy Clarkson presents, Johnathon Pearce commentates and Philippa Forrester interviews the teams. The six combatants are Bodyhammer, Reality, Torque of the Devil, Full Metal Anarack, Psychosprout and Warthog.

Psychosprout, out of all robot designs I saw in Robot Wars UK, it is the one that surprises me the most.

Nowadays the design that surprises me, especially with his well said design does despite my prediction, is Gabriel and Nuts 2.

I played the death out of the PC game. One the best shows from my childhood easily
Psychosprout is officially the coolest robot I have ever seen on robot wars.
Its BB-8! It was a Sprout all along...
When I first saw Psychosprout, I remember shouting out loud "What the hell is that?!"

Full Metal Anarack slayed the gauntlet, Bodyhammer who would later become Pussycat by the 'fusion team' was the only competitor to appear in all 7 series of Robot Wars, Torque of the Devil had such a lush design but was lucky to make the trial after Warthog's catastrophic blunder which Jeremy rubbed it in their faces "I reckon about 2 months to go 2 yards" HARSH! Felt sorry for that guy who walked off
warthog having a ground clerance if 5 mil and JP asking if that was enough. 5 mil would be considered bigger then the grand canyon now

I seem to recall JP sating that S3 in series 5(?) was the first to have a vertical flywheel weapon. Surely Torque of the Devil was...
He looked as if he was going to burst out crying!
Had to feel sorry for Torque and Warthog, the announcers telling them to go when they were stuck at the worst time on the revolver was no co-incidence to their short runs.

Team Cold Fusion, the future creators of Pussycat. It's fascinating looking at the early entries by teams that would later go on to bigger and better things, isn't it? Didn't have David Gribble at the helm, though.
1:19 perfect example of the evolution of the series. Here JP is worrying if 5 mm ground clearence is too little. in later seasons this would be too much!!

Anyone else think Torque of the Devil looks like Matilda?
I suppose the Wharthog boys were planning to take the house robot route, however the turntable opening wasn't in the desired position when "activate" was called and i guess the driver panicked as time was ticking away. I think he then planned just to get Wharthog off the turntable and reverse back towards the house robots but rammed into the maze fence too soon before he could straighten up and the robot's dented front corner somehow beached the wheels from the floor leaving itself immobile.
Wharthog, designed for speed and agility... With a 2 metre turning circle.
If that was nearer 80KG and a bit more manoeuvrable and quick, that'd put up one hell of a fight even in later wars!
Well, at least T of the D can boast to be the first robot in robot wars to have a spinning disk.
Interesting that Jeremy Clarkson does so well in Top Gear, but not in Robot Wars series 1.

Did they shoot the entire series in one day? Philippa Forrester is always wearing the same outfit. Clarkson may be too, but I wasn't looking at him.
I guess this is where Jeremy learnt his nerd impressions from...
Funny how it was called BodyHammer...and never used it's hammer.
Robin Herrick is back in the new series with a robot called Kill-E-Crank-E.

coincidentally, this heat and heat D had the two losers in the gauntlet and trials in first (gauntlet) and second (trials) and the heat winner third!!!!

i thought that this series would be great but jeremy is starting to get on my nerves
