- Here we are! The War that started them all! The third Heat of the first ever War. Jeremy Clarkson presents, Johnathon Pearce commentates and Philippa Forrester interviews the teams. The six combatants are Robot the Bruce, Wedgehog, Dreadnaught, Cruella, WYSIWYG and Plunderbird.
LET THE WARS BEGIN!

The one thing I've learned by watching this episode... Control is EVERYTHING. If you can't control your robot, you'll lose. Robot the Bruce had by far the best control, and so won, even without any weapons.
Jimera0 and this we were introduced to one of the best drivers in robotic combat
i wish they continued this...me and my bro loved this show
Player1Joined 3 more seasons were recently made
the potency of the late 90's lost nostalgia and vibe is comin on strong, especially with this here spliff
lovely harmless little robots compared to later series ^-^
"Let me just ask you a question: that pickaxe you attached to the front was pathetic!"... wait a minute there Jezza... that's not a question
Dreadnought is one of my top 5 best looking robots. Love it
The deadly toothpick!
If dreadnought had been more reliable he would have won. Really good armour and (were it working) decent pushing power.
"The grill." LOL. Dangerous stuff.
Martin Smith of Cruella sounded like he knew the reasons for failure very precisely, no wonder he was invited back to be a judge.
Someone needs to make a fan-game of this!!!!
There are a few robot wars games out there I personally own Robot wars arenas of destruction for the ps2 but I know there're plenty of other robot wars related games on the market.
There is Robot arena 2 for the pc
Dreadnaut got so close! I love dreadnaut I was really upset to see them lose!!!
If Cruella hadn't committed suicide it might've beaten Robot the Bruce, Dreadnaught would've made the final if he had pushed Wedgehog a few inches more on the grill before breaking down again, Sgt Bash's saw was useless in series 1. Jeremy Clarkson really liked Robot the Bruce, was never harsh or quirky towards George.
I'm so glad they changed sgt bash weapon later on
at 3:48 thats why i love JP
Aww, Dreadnaught. -- Great robot, super nice guys, if only they had enough time to iron out all of its problems.
Dreadnaut tried its best but in the end his performance was quite poor due to motor trouble. It would've been better off retiring straight after the Gauntlet run and then allow Plunderbird reinstated who might've given a more entertaining show particularly from its team.
Predecessor to the pit i think; I think the "grill" is more like a grating, designed to trap robots with (smaller) wheels.
I had completely forgot George Francis had another robot before Chaos and then Chaos II
I forgot about Chaos, lmao. It's descendant was vastly superior.
Definitely was, I'd definitely say out of three Chaos II was my fave
"Deadly toothpick" XD
However if it wasn't for that first motor burn-out Dreadnaut would definitely gotten far in the competition. In the football, it would easily scoop up the ball with its fully functioning forklift and scored. In the arena round the forklift would've had Wedgehog(4x lighter) toppled in a matter of seconds, then in the final against Robot the Bruce would've gone down to the wire.
thanks for uploading!
Fun fact: WYSIWYG was a BBC-made robot to boost the numbers, and had been instructed to not go into the final. You can see how the driver desperately pretends to be bad at the football this episode, before finally the robot "breaks"!
It was just a shitty piece of junk
+fixer10091994 it was just a rc car with a cover basically, it was just a placeholder
So similar to Grunt back in heat A, like when he just blatantly just drives off the stage during the sumo round.
I never saw the Jeremy Clarkson presented ones until today. I think Jezza is better suited on Top Gear rather than Robot Wars. Craig Charles for me is the Murray Walker of commentators on Robot Wars, from 1999 to 2003 I think....still a legendary program!
No, Jonathan Pearce was the commentator giving Murray Walker a run for his money. Pearce still calls it today.
Ash, Robot the Bruce, one day they would go on to make history with Chaos 2, winner of 2 consecutive wars!
True it wasn't until season three that the robots started having truly destructive weapons, R.O.B is a robot that was reliable, heavy and powerful that was what was important, its ground clearance did cause problems but that was fixed in Chaos.
@chinospot I don't think it should have even got through to the semi-finals since it was dead for most of the last round
What happened to Matilda in this episode?
4:00 Christ Phillipa was fit
indeed
A new comment enters the arena
George Francis was way ahead of his time, the final World Champion of Robot Wars was a powerful box on wheels.
Hmm. If Dreadnought's motor came from a Morris Marina, maybe the reason it kept breaking down was because it could feel Clarkson's hate bearing down on it.
TheHumbleFellow and this was before they started destroying them
I love Jezza's outfit this
LOL Clarkson was a good presenter of Robot Wars...but then Craig Charles was too...I think If (And hopefully when) they make another series, they should have Jeremy Clarkson as the host, and Craig Charles doing Phillipa's job as Pit commentator.
No thank you. Craig, Phillipa and Jonathan. Definitely not Dara O'Birian.
I thought he was an absolute legend.
i don't mean to be rude but when i first saw this, i thought george francis was a woman
Sergeant Bash is not having luck with the saw, is he?
Poor bugger never did.
Frustrated dreadnaught did a lot against wedge but lost cause of engine failure
it was good that dreadnaught finally conked out because it spent more time on fire than not
that may have been the fastest finals ever
Im surprised that Dreadnaut didnt win it all with their good luck
i always laugh when i see robot the bruces team, not because hes so short but because shes so tall AND hes so short. seriously no offence theyre great
Sgt. Bash, Dead Metal, their saw sure was nothing for the contestants in the early battles before they got upgraded, or in Bash's case, removed.
@ 3:16 SGT. BASH saw remover counter: 2
Replacing Jeremy Clarkson with Craig Charles was the most important change they ever made to the show. He's totally unsuited to the material and as much as he tries to feign enthusiasm, he doesn't actually like robot combat and admitted as such after it was over. Although one wonders if he might have enjoyed it more if he hadn't had to commentate the lamest series?
+ArcaneAzmadi I think it didnt help that he had to pretend watching a bunch of robots go arround a maze or play football was entertaining. The best thing they did was to remove those parts of the show.
Robot wars is and was, an amazing series
ArcaneAzmadi having Jeremy Clarkson as the host was a Robot Flaw
ArcaneAzmadi jhh
@@elobiretv series 1 was essentially a long-form pilot. Even the battles weren't particularly thrilling given the generally low speeds and lack of exciting weaponry, but it was a necessary stepping stone to get to the epicness that was to come.
I think Jeremy would have been an acceptable host for later seasons, but Craig Charles was a far more perfect fit. He will always be the one and only. He's a lot warmer and more engaged, and he always made sure to still give credit to the hard work of the losers, as well as the winners
@easportsbig899
explained at 2:02
So hang on, if the robot goes onto the grate, they instantly lose?
Racing Stripe A/V something to do with ground clearance and wheel size
Predecessor to the pit really
WTF is the grill!?
And so the legacy of george francis begins...
what a great show when its hard to tell what sex people are.
Wtf why houserobots are even attacking Robot the Bruce?
philippa looks hot
4:02 awkward
thats why she was hired
Is it just me or, at the very start of the video, does Jeremy Clarkson look like a zombie?
...Jeremy Clarkson is extremely dry humored and not real expressive, I like Craig Charles a lot more; Jonathan Pierce was always a great, fun commentator though, did a good job blending "play-by-play" and color commentating.
