- Here we are! The War that started them all! The final Heat and final of the first ever War. Jeremy Clarkson presents, Johnathon Pearce commentates and Philippa Forrester interviews the teams. The six combatants are Tracie, Scarab, Prince Of Darkness, Blob, Eubank The Mouse and Elvis.

If you look closely then Recyclopse, Cunning Plan and Bodyhammer have scraps too. Probably something to do with their sportsmanship award

You do wonder why the grand final didn't have its own show with the same format as the heats (so they all did the gauntlet, trial, arena again). I actually wonder if that was the original plan but they couldn't stretch to a seventh episode...
I'm glad they didn't, I couldn't watch all those boring events again, I just want to see straight up battling
Well done Robots and all, there are two things I miss from this series in the future episodes:
1) The 'fun' element, in how lighthearted it all was compared to later series'.
2) Jeremy Clarkson!!
18 years on and these robots probably wouldn't last 30 seconds in the modern series, they're just so quirky
wouldn't last 10 seconds more like.
Even the House Robots, as they are in this series, probably wouldn’t stand a chance against a modern competitor.
@@NoobixCube They got rekt (especially mathilda) by some competitor robots back then already, now they would just be obliterated instantly with all the kinetic spinners. The only reason they stood any chance back then is that they had a serious weight advantage.

That guy with the T.R.A.C.I.E. sign is on something. He is way to excited.
After watching all of Series 1 it brought back some amazing memories =D Although it's clear that Clarkson didn't want to be there and there were some moments when you just wanted the House Robots to back off and let the competitors have a good fight =P

If Scarab had won the bout, JP would have described the awesome damage caused by its mace. XD

Roadblock's simplicity made it a favourite of mine. Recyclopse's ingenuity also made it one of my top 3 favourites of series 1.
Drednauts look was one of my favourites, even if the robot performed badly.
Over all the technology has dated really badly over the years. Even though it was 1998 at the time, the American machines were so much more deadly in comparison.
Still, i remember watching series 1 with a lot of excitement.
T.R.A.C.I.E got lucky winning that heat tbh, no surprise it eliminated itself driving onto Cunning Plan losing control on both. What a fierce 6 way grand finale! Most of us Robot Wars fans do wonder how things would've been if the final was a basic format from heats but Road Block definitely deserved that victory... Pride of Cornwall! I can't help but think what Hender, Chris & Peter are doing now 19 years later... Are they hailed past heroes at Bodmin Community College? Sacking Jeremy Clarkson was the best move Robot Wars producers ever made.
Jeremy Clarkson wasn't sacked, he quit because he was too busy to keep doing Robot Wars.
I went to Bodmin College, Road Block was on display for ages idk any more now tho.

@BBCRobotwarsUK - I remember a kid at school who insisted that Cunning Plan was the most powerful robot ever.
I told him about robots like Tornado and Hypno-disc, but he was sure CP would just "dodge around and hit them from the back".
Thank you for uploading this first series of Robot Wars. I have heard podcasts and watched some of the new series with Razer and some of the 2017 ones but never got the chance to see where it all came from. Craig Charles is epic!
Can you imagine if a series 7 robot like Typhoon 2, or Storm 2 fought against all six of the finalists from series 1 on a team? It would be fun to watch.

@BBCRobotwarsUK Mine was Roadblock because it was big and it had a wedge so others could be tiped over.
Where do the Nemesis team get all there fur from? I mean you could probably fill the arena with how much fur they've lost over the years.
For the Grand Final I had either Roadblock or Tracie to win the title, though I did have a soft spot for Recylopse, it was a cool design for its time.
Mortis was the best robot from season 1. Just a shame it got screwed over by a bad judges decision.
Felt bad for Tracie, definitely my favourite robot
Robot The Bruce. After seeing what worked in the American Robot Wars, I thought that The Bruce's speed would give it the win for sure
I originally thought Recyclopse was the most solid of all the finalists, but once I saw them all up there at the same time I realized he just isn't suited for a 6 bot fight.
I was thinking that robot the Bruce or Tracie were the best bets because of the consistency they've both shown, but it seems that Cunning Plan used what little strength he had to disrupt Tracie's chance of winning and Bruce just got outmaneuvered by Roadblock. All in all, a pretty entertaining brawl that was.
Oh and I can only imagine the look on the face of Cunning Plan's controller when it occurred to him that he would be forced to fight robots that were a good x10 his size.

i know this was the first series but i wouldn't have thought spikes like those of TRACIE would be that powerful
This Series was a short one but it's now onto Series 2! :D
Definitely Recyclopse! Even though I disagreed with their getting through at Mortis' expense, they were my overall favorites for the whole series.
i think, everyone wanted Cunning Plan to win in their own little ways. haha

For me, it was either Roadblock, Recylopse, or Bodyhammer.
Roadblock was definitely the clear winner at the end since it did most of the attacking while Bodyhammer was running away too much. The only other robot that could have matched Roadblock was Mortis hadn't it broke its axe drive linkage in the earlier round and steered more carefully against Recyclopse.

They wouldn't be allowed to compete, they'd tear everything to bits and the arena wouldn't stand up to it! Everyone would be in serious danger. It's incredible how far robots have come!

Considering how crap series 1 bots were, the final battle was decent.
Can anyone tell me why do we have replays in sport such as football?
Funny how this is the only time Nemesis's/ Diotoir's fur can be seen on three of the Grand Finalists.
I like series 1, its weird quirky and just fun. The events gave a bit of chaos to what the robots had to do, maybe the show benefited from making them just side events but I've always feldt it was a shame

I think series 1 was the funniest series of all, but I preferred the later Series.
i wanted road block to win that, yaay i was thrilled
Imho best robots from series 1: 1 Mortis 2 Roadblock 3 Robot the Bruce 4 Recyclops 5 Killertron 6 Nemezis
Admittedly, the first series was a bit lacklustre. But it is still where it all started.
Roadblock, I thought he was too big though at the beginning
I thought T.R.A.C.I.E had the best shot it's spikes could do a bit of damage by first wars standards, it was very nippy, and it was invertible, and it's shape meant it couldn't be flipped by Road Block or Recyclopse anyway. If they'd had house robots in the arena they may have won as nowadays the house robots separate robots locked together (not sure if they did in series 1) but then again there wasn't really the room for house robots in this fight.
They couldn't do a regular game for the championship , instead of a big bout?
@BBCRobotwarsUK Yeah, I always wondered whose bright idea it was to pit what is basically a remote controlled car with metal skin against 5 robots that are at least 5 times heavier than it.
Did they honestly think that Cunning Plan would stand a chance? LMAO!

I thought tracie had a serious chance still not sure how it became immobilized... electronics probably just went kaput on it again. After that I really thought bruce would do well, but that was a dumb-ass move taking roadblock wedge on. Shame considering how intelligent it played during it's heat.
If Hypnodisc had been in Series 1 it would have easily won the title and destroyed every robot that was in Series 1

Woolly Jumper Yeah it wouldent beable to compete in series 1 due to the arena wall having massive gaps which in some clips you can see members of the crew by the arena wall which means that the disk can fit though the gaps, The wall was not that strong either as it kept falling apart and coming disconnected from the arena at times
Well, it would at least be less dangerous than Sgt. Bash, with its hardened blade flying all over the place and shattering a multitude of times throughout this season.
My prediction/ I love making them.
Roadblock has power and weight. Tracie has some pretty lethal spikes and some speed.
Recyclopse looks silly and flukeish.
Robot The Bruce has no offense but could get others to CPZs.
Bodyhammer seems the most offensive with the axe!
Cunning Plan is just mental out of of control but it has a plan.
If I was joking Cunning Plan but being serious Road Block!
