PowerDirector - Apply a Ken Burns style of pan and zoom to a video clip

  • Ken Burns popularized the editing technique of pan and zoom across still images--mostly historical photographs. Can you apply that same technique with a video? You can in PowerDirector. This works best if the film is shot using a tripod without a lot of pan and zoom in the original footage, as you will see in this example.

    Yes, I have this pan/Zoom effect in PD14 Ultra. It might be labelled different but does the same thing, and I could, if I want to, apply it to videos or stills. P.S. Geez that "Ken" really "Burns" me up! LOL

    Thanks.
    When you use keyframes like this whether for still images or video, the virtual camera movements always look unconvincing as they start instantaneously, then move linearly, then stop abruptly.
    Is there a technique to make the start and stops of that movement more gradual, more like the acceleration / deceleration of a real camera ?

    • @CraigRodmellMusic
      @CraigRodmellMusic 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, there is. "Ease In" and "Ease Out".

    How do you select a section on the clip to do the Crop/Zoom/Pan? My clip is 15 minutes and it's I can't apply keyframes exactly where I want. There is no way to expand the time line in the tool

    • @SharperTurtle
      @SharperTurtle  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just did a test with an 18 minute clip and was able to put keyframes in anywhere in the clip. So I'm guessing I'm missing something in your question. Does there seem to be a limit as to where or how many keyframes you can place on the slider? --Jim

    • @shnitle
      @shnitle 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SharperTurtle Suppose I put a keyframe and I want to put a second one 10 frames later. I can't expend the time line on the video so it keeps snapping to the first keyframe. Sorry if my explanation is not clear.

    • @SharperTurtle
      @SharperTurtle  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Now I see what you have in mind. You want to be more precise in the position of your keyframes and you can't magnify the tool to do that.
      The only way I know to do that is to not use the tool demonstrated here, but to use the PiP Designer. You can add position and scale keyframes that are very close together, but it's a challenging process. You enlarge to make it look like you are doing a close up and you shrink to make it look like the camera is backing away.
