    Thanks, Jim.
    I needed this last week and discovered that the range markers were missing. So I raised the issue with Cyberlink Support and they guided me how to use the new design. I have always wondered why their Support team does not issue update guidelines (through email) for PD users.

    Thanks Jim. That really helps. I dodnt know we can select multiple clips, then select the range. I usually have all my good, trimmed down clips on the timeline, off to the right. Then i build my final video on the left. When im done, i do a select-range snd export-range to render it. This is now possible again. The more i have to re-learn this tool as they remove or change power features, the more likely it is that i'll just switch to another editor.

      Don,
      There is a learning curve either way, I suppose. This change doesn't strike me as a downgrade, just different. --Jim

    Cheers, Great Tutorial, It was driving me mad that if I wanted to render a section near the beginning of a video it assumed I wanted to render the whole video. Like a lot of people are saying in the comments CyberLink seem to be removing / adding/ moving functions without really explaining what they have done. I used to use the old split cursor option to range a section, this option was removed but no where on their support page does it explain you can use the X key. Again, Thanks.

      Part of the pushback isn't necessarily the change in the feature, but the fact that they don't explain the change and show how it can be useful. At least I can fill in part of that gap. --Jim

    The playhead doesn't go to the begining of a section when you clic on it anymore.

      That is the more common default for NLE editors. You can press the HOME key to get there. --Jim

    My only complaint to this new method is it's not intuitive. I checked the "Hotkeys" list and "r" is apparently not used. Using "r" for range is far easier to remember than "x" which to me indicates you want to remove or exit something. At least with the markers to the left/right of the timeline marker I had a visual reminder of how to access the range.

    • @SharperTurtle
      @SharperTurtle  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      There were good things about the way it was before. You can remap the hotkey for the command with "r" if you want to. --Jim

    Thank you. A very helpful set of tutorials. Question: With Screen Recorder 4 (or 365), in the Video Preferences there is an option to "Create a .mrk file when recording" and is recommended for PowerDirector editing. Do you have a tutorial on what the .mrk is and how to use it?

    • @SharperTurtle
      @SharperTurtle  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Bob,
      That's an interesting question. Cyberlink has no information about the .MRK file. When you activate it, the program creates a hidden file with the same file name as the captured file. You can open it in Notepad if you set your file explorer to view hidden files. The content I just looked at recorded mouse clicks and movements. I was not able to find anything useful in an internet search on the usefulness of the file just now. Maybe someone else who reads this comment can enlighten both of us. --Jim

      @@SharperTurtle Yes, I too have searched for information and have found nothing. Strange because it was there in earlier versions of the Screen Recorder and is still in the latest versions (4 and 365). So why do Cyberlink not have any information on it. Like you said, perhaps someone else can enlighten us.

      I just found this post on the Cyberlink forum in the Screen Recoder section (searched for mrk in the forum). The post gives an intriguing insight into the use of the mark file. "The mrk file is a clip marker file that gets loaded to the timeline when you first import a screen capture file and move it to the timeline. Once the pds file is saved, the clip markers are then part of the PD pds file and can be edited on the timeline and the mrk file can essentially be deleted. Unless of course you want to load the same screen capture in a new project and retain the defined markers.
      If you don't want to mark mouse activity during screen capture for later use in editing, turn the mrk file off in ScreenCapture pref and you won't have the file.
      Either way, the mrk file will never create the media files not found issue, for that you have moved or deleted critical pds project assets. Keep in mind, the pds file does not save your critical video assets, it only creates a link to them. If you move or delete the critical video assets, yes PD will be confused and you will get the media files not found as you moved or deleted them."

      @@SharperTurtle Ah, I think I now understand how to use the mrk file. PD uses it to highlight the mouse clicks in your video clicks (if you have the "Mouse clicks" option ticked in Screen Recorder). When you record a video clip (with the .mrk option enabled), Screen Recorder will save a video file and an associated .mrk file into your download folder. You then only drag the video file into PD365. The video clip has the mrk data embedded in it, so you do not import the mrk file into PD365 (leave it in your download folder). If you try to import the mrk file into PD365 it will produce an error. In PD365, the video click will now show the mouse clicks highlighted. The video clip in the timeline will now have blue markers where the mouse clicks occur. The .mrk file in your download file can be deleted after you import the video clip into your PD project - but do not delete the .mrk file if you intend to use that video clip again in another project, the mrk file will need to be located within the folder where the video clip is imported from. So, it is safer not to delete the mrk file (it's a very small file size). And note that the mrk file is a "hidden" file, so you will not see in your folder anyway, if you have "hidden files" viewing disabled.

      Thanks for your research. It looks like it adds clip markers wherever you click your mouse when recording. I don't know when I would use that feature, but thanks to you I know it's there now. :) --Jim

    Is it possible to create endless zoom with PowerDirector 365? I haven't tried it yet.

    • @SharperTurtle
      @SharperTurtle  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      There is always a limit to zoom. if you zoom in too much, the content becomes grainy. If you zoom out you run outside your image. But I wonder if you are talking about something else. Let me know if that's the case. --Jim

    1:54 This is what is getting so many Cyberlink Power Director users so annoyed. The *WRONGFUL* assumption that the range would be "the length of the clip" is typical of the *Boffins* at Cyberlink redesigning the Power Director product *TO SUIT ONLY THE BOFFINS THEMSELVES, WITH NO THOUGHT WHATSOEVER FOR THE END USER'S NEEDS* is why Cyberlink is *LOSING* customers almost daily.
