    Which one would you get? Commander v2 link - bit.ly/commandersV2 EDIT: this price actually looks cheaper than what I was first told it would be.
    Commander v1 link - bit.ly/CommandersAomway
    Also very interesting that between us I will be flying the v2s, trev the v1s and cal the hd2s

      Always pick up the phone when your mom is calling! I would go with the Commander 2 because I fly with the FatShark hd3's and I love the FOV. the price should be around 400-380.

      I would get the v2s because I want them for RC car FPV as well, but look: the V1's came in and shorted the market with a budget design, and they looked the part. Budget. Now Aomway is trying to make a premium product, and we only know them as a budget brand, it's natural to balk at the price of the V2s.

    • @irzoltan
      @irzoltan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wait, Aomway never made a budget goggles, 300$ is not cheap and neither is 450$ for the v2's. They all over charge with FatShark being on the top (chargers the most and gives the least - no cables, no module, no antennas, no batteries, no nothing... yet its 500$ for some reason) ... I thing quality FPV goggles should not be more then 300$ and less if it comes with no module. and they should all come with quality antennas and other accessories in the box.

    • @cloudripper4926
      @cloudripper4926 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      the screens are 4:3 native, the 16:9 mode just adds black bars - which drops resolution & fov. why pay for larger screens if you don't use them?

    • @nihilisticone4215
      @nihilisticone4215 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because even with the black bars the FOV of the 16:9 mode of the V2's is significantly larger than any other native 16:9 goggle available (excluding face box style goggles). Someone in the RCgroups thread said they determined it to be about 41 degrees, vs. the V1's 32 degrees. So, those of us with 16:9 cameras wouldn't have to shell out for new 4:3 cameras to maintain correct aspect ratio.

    • @Furadi
      @Furadi 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I fly in 16:9 regardless of camera and the FOV in the v2's is 41.6 degrees. It's glorious!

    Are the old Aomway commanders better than the new version 2? I think the V2 are heavier. I am looking to switch from Fatsharks and like the idea lighter googles and the over the head strap and rear battery placement. Someone said the Aomways do not sit on the cheekbones that well is that true?

    Hey stu..very nice review.i am a racer and i started with ev800 and I'm still racing with that because i love the field of view and how big the screen is..I'm used to it..will Changing to this commander V2 be a good choice??....is it as immersive as the ev800?..would like to know..

    • @anthonya115
      @anthonya115 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm right with you man, I have ev800s as well and there isn't a non-box goggle on the market that has as big of a screen as those. I am actually sticking with my ev800s just because i love the immersive huge screen. If you really want to switch to non-box goggles, go with these V2 commanders, or find a pair of HD2s.

    I'm wondering what you or others think of the quality of the two little control sticks on the v1 & and if they are the same ones on v2 Commander's. I had one on my v1 pop off soon after I got them and has been a little loose or easy to pop off ever since. Might just be my bad luck but I'm wondering how many people that has happened to, and if anyone has ever lost one before as I fear I might lose it some day as it pops off pretty easy. Is that a common issue, and does the v2 use the same sticks?
    I have been thinking of using a dab of super glue to make sure it does not pop off and get lost, but fear I might accidentally glue that button itself causing it to not work. So I have yet to try that.

    Great information, I personally got a great deal on a "used" pair of HD3s purchased by someone who never got into the hobby. With a module and aomway clover for $300. But if I didn't i'd probably own the Commander V1 right now, do you have any opinions on the Fatshark transformers ? My gf loves hiking out with me to fly but never really gets goggle time because I suck at flying line of sight. Been looking for a cheap pair to have her ride shot gun.

    My ipd are maxed out too on the v1. Ill get this for the 72mm ipd. I wanted some fatshark hdo but the ipd is only up to 69mm like the aomway v1 which is alittle blurry on the corners for me. That 72mm ipd is the selling point for me. Also if it breaks who can fix it for you? What other goggles give 72mm ipd?

    Any suggestions on goggles that would fit a person with a head the size of a pumpkin? I don't live near any hobby shops that carry fpv related stuff so I have to buy everything online. I'm just starting out, don't have a drone yet. But I do have a transmitter (QX7) and am learning on a sim. When the time comes I'll build my drone but the goggles are the tough one. Any big headed pilots out there with suggestions?

    Thank you, Stew! I really enjoyed this review. I am a thoroughly proud owner of Commander V1 googles and even though this looks similar, I love how these look with the darker body. The larger screens might be outside my comfort since I have gotten use to the smaller screens on the V1. The fact that I don't have to move my eyes around as much with the V1 would make me question if I want to move into a V2. The smaller screens in the HD0s were tempting me, but, I think I will keep with my V1 goggles. Again, thank you for this awesome review.

    Damn, Stu, it's good to have you back. And with a smoking good review I've been waiting for. I bought the Commander V1's because of your review. I added a power switch to the back of my barrel connector because I know they have a tendency to wear over many plug / unplug cycles. If I was going to spend this kind of money, I'd buy the Fatshark HDO's. Just for the OLED displays. I love my Commanders, and yes, the foam sucks hardcore. I'm ordering the Newbee Drone foam right away, many people have said how good it is. Glad to be a Pateron supporter, and really happy you are back. How about a review of the Fatshark HDO's ? Just a thought, clear skies and mild winds !!!

    For me, FPV is about immersion, which is why I'm sticking to my HD2's with their 50 degrees FOV.
    Also keeping an eye out for a 2nd, 2nd hand pair because nobody seems to want to make another twin-screen goggle with such a big FOV.

  • @oldschoolfpv8181
    @oldschoolfpv8181 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I fly Skyzones 02s currently and am looking for a new bigger FOV goggle. Skyzone V3's are out. Tried them and returned them. It's these or core FS HD3 w/ a RealACC module equal about the same price. As much as I hate paying for the Fatshark name, I am leaning towards them because I could swap receivers and better foam options. If these were in the $350-$375 range then perhaps.
    Thanks for the vid Mr. UAVfutures

  • @Gigawipf

    Found any noise or strange lines like there was mentioned on rcgroups?
    The price is currently more like 400 than 500$, which still is very expensive. But considering good antennas and hopefully also good receivers are built in they migh have ~60-100$ price advantage you would have to pay for receiver modules and antennas. Strange that no head tracker was included.

    I’m using HD3s now, I’m going to sell them, spend the money on FatShark HDO.
    Refresh rate, OLED. Major advantages over regular screen because obstacles invisible in HD3 can be seen in the HDO. If you’re going to spend $450. Better to spend the $50 more dollars on HDO.

    The DVR always looks worse than the view in the goggles because the goggles show the full 50FPS of PAL cameras and 59.94FPS of NTSC camera, but the DVR only records 25FPS for PAL and 29.97FPS for NTSC.
    All the DVRs in goggles suck for capturing footage for TH-cam because they throw away half the resolution & framerate. But for finding your quad they rock.

    I have many mixed emotions now I was going to get the v1s about 5 months ago and decided to wait to see if a v2 was coming out soon. Now that they are out I’m not sure what to think do I spend the extra $100+ to get the v2 compared to the v1...ugh

    Maybe the extra step in turning on the dvr saves power. If you don’t use it you can leave it off and the goggles won’t draw as much power. Just speculation tho.

    Nice, pitty about not having support for Fatshark modules. Why so many adds in the video?

    These are nearly the same identical FOV as the HD3 which is the "standard" or most preferred by top pilots in racing or freestyle. Most importantly you should keep in mind that if the FOV is too large for your liking, you can just drop in the -2 diopter adjusters and voila! You get a smaller screen at no cost. I suggested this to some friends who thought their HD2 were a bit extreme and they've been doing that ever since. You're welcome.

      MojoPapi FPV ive been wondering about this, so could you use +diopter to get a larger screen on other models?

    • @MojoPapiFPV
      @MojoPapiFPV 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      bojangles yes unfortunately I can't find them for less than 60 euros. Keep in mind that it's like a Monet painting. The more you magnify the less sharp it becomes. This may or not he an issue though.

      AFIQ aFaT Xi2or is correct. These are switchable via the on screen menu, and the change in aspect ratio takes effect immediately. The default is 4:3.

    • @afiqaFaT

      Xi2or haha so stew have to make update on this goggles about 16:9. Might up the value of the goggles more right?

    This is what I was waiting for. Great review to wake up to. Well done Stu. My V1s are still going strong and the price is disappointing. Aomway came on the market as a cheaper option and for a bigger fov they’re following fatshark mistakes. Btw I thought the aspect ratio was switchable?

  • @ugpfpv361
    @ugpfpv361 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was hoping that these would be better as I would need the extra ipd width... But, they're basically comparable to fatshark from, what , 3 generations ago... And at what price!

    Nice to see another goggle instead of the FS HDO at the moment :) Love my skyzone v2+ , and even if ALL new one are good. Feels like the money are...... Its in a way where you are. first set or upgrade. rambling :P know what I need for an update, cant see it so far in any :P

  • @EnzoM

    I’m probably not right, but maybe the ‘extra’ step for the DVR might be necessary because that’s what might turn the DVR on, and then you press again to start recording. Maybe that’s for people who don’t want to use DVR.
    It’s the same on my fat shark attitude v4’s

    The thing that I love about the Aomways is the fact that the goggle COMES WITH diversity receiver! You dont have to spend $100 on a diversity setup in addition to the $400 that you have to pay for the googles. Its an all in one solution ready to go. No spending time setting up your receiver and upgrading software. It has scanning and a great OSD. Cant go wrong with Aomway!

    Great video! But you got the pricing wrong. Their $440 here in the US not $500+. Yeah their still a bit high right now but not as high as the fatshark HDO's. I still can't decide which goggles I want now. Lol. But I really don't know if I could spend that much. Yeah I know it's something u use everyday and use more than most other equipment but damn. I just think I want the v1 or the dom v3's

  • @TweakRacer
    @TweakRacer 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Stew: Just set the DVR to auto-record.
    Trevor: A pair of FS HD's with a diversity receiver costs the same. Compare apples to apples, not apples to Commander V1's.
    Cal: Commander V1's can do 4:3 ratio. Price wise, same as the HD's with a diversity receiver, but a bit more than the Falcon's. Also, what's the point of the big FOV, when the edges are blurry, and you never look there anyways?
    All: Try the Newbeedrone Max Comfort foam. I had light leakage on the sides though, so stuck cut-up straws between the foam and faceplate.

      it will also reduce the screen size, some one roughly worked it out to about 40 degrees. Still larger though

    • @UAVfutures
      @UAVfutures  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sam Horner the native screens are 4:3 I don't think a single pilot would crop their screen just for an aspect ratio but I'll try do an update soon about it

    • @Xi2or
      @Xi2or 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sorry Stew, I don't agree. Cropping the 45 degree 4:3 screen to 16:9 will give roughly the same resolution as the V1 (800x480) and also a larger FOV of about 40 degrees. I think this is an important point to point out in an update, please.

    Have the v1's. The battery connector is a good idea, but it is prone to failure (had mine fail at a race day which was a real bummer - fortunately had a spare fatshark style battery so could fly again that day, but missed a heat and lost enough points to kill any chance of making a final). I ended up making my own cable.
    A power switch would be nice (as mentioned). Have had an incident where I forgot to unplug a battery and almost killed a lipo.
    Also agree that the foam needs fixing. Maybe something like the Fatshark HDO's.
    I prefer a 16:9 screen (and have 16:9 capable cameras), so even with the bigger FOV the 4:3 is actually a turn off.
    DVR I find a little iffy at times, and a smaller on screen notification would be nice (or better yet customisable).
    Price is a killer though. v1's are better value for money in my books.
