    I received my Commanders missing a button (DVR button) and was about to just let it go. I decided at the price I paid to try and contact them. Great experience, nice guy I worked with, I paid $3 US to ship a full set of buttons so actually have spares. This wasn't a huge problem that I needed help with from them but was impressed with the speed I received a reply.

    First time I've ever felt the need to comment on a TH-cam video!! I've watched numerous reviews of these goggles, and I have to say yours is by far the best and most informative, it's as close as you get to using them, love how u go through all the features and explain everything with such clarity! I was worried that the FOV would b too large, noone else mentioned the zoom modes! Thank you, I will be subscribing 👌

    Great review - you do goggles better than anyone! I'm using the V1 now, and ready to jump to the V2. I've been using a 3-turn helical from IBCrazy in lieu of the Menace Invader - and it is superior to the Invader in terms of axial ratio and beam width - as well as eliminating crosstalk.

    I have Dom v1s and unfortunately I broke my SMA connector away from the RX module by dropping them so I emailed Aomway direct & got a fast response I was very happy with the experience all round I ordered a replacement at a cost of only about £12 so I also brought a couple of spares lol
    I also broke my clips on my goggle casing that hold the face plate on this cost only £8 for the entire casing including replacement buttons I ordered all the bits together + £30 shipping all was received in about 3 weeks I was very satisfied with the service.
    P.S. nice 1 for the review Andy

  • @billsomrak
    @billsomrak 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree ... a bit pricey, but then, you don't have to buy diversity modules separately as with the FS. Will be interesting to see if anyone posts about Aomway service. Thanks for the look. Cheers.

    I do agree it looks a little cheap , but compared to the features it aint bad ... I have the V1's and have no issues at all besides stock antennas and a little light leak due to my skinny face , but all in all solid goggle . Good reviews as usual Andy 😊👍

  • @jordanbass3210
    @jordanbass3210 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    On the diversity RF mode race probably means it's which is very fast between the two and long-range means it's which is slow that way when you're on your patch it doesn't come off of it quickly it will stay in locked on I think

  • @dvdrwsor
    @dvdrwsor 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The problem isn't the price, it's the people who buy them.
    Another big con for me is you can't add a aftermarket module.
    Yet another great review Andy !

    I've had my V1's for about 1 year with no real issues. Luckily, I haven't needed customer service, but I feel Aomway is making a quality product (other than the cheap, self destructing faceplate foam). That being said, I plan to sell my V1's to buy the V2's for 2 reasons, both personal preference. I need a wider IPD and I think I will like a larger FOV. I was nervous when I bought my first pair from Aomway as they were un-tested, however, after owning a pair, I'll give them my business again. Just my 2 cents. Excellent review Andy.

    Nice review Andy! Personal opinion, but buying goggles is probably the hardest part of starting out in the fpv hobby, nothing is quite so very individual as "what looks good" and so its really hard to get a feel for what your going to like and what would work for you. Having said that, as with all your reviews, they always seem well thought out an well specified (eg, your comparisons and proviso's about support). One thing I wish every goggle maker/seller had was a returns program because (much like clothing) theres just too many biological factors that affect the suitability of a goggle

    I have both these and the v1’s. I think I like the v1’s better. It seems as though I don’t have the “zoom” options on the format choices. If I could get the 16:9 zoom option, I think that might make me like them as much as the v1’s. Is this a firmware or region thing?

  • @lievenvv

    Hi Andy, thanks!
    About the DVR resolution: it actually makes sense. NTSC video is (roughly) 720x480 pixels, and PAL comes in at 720x576. Indeed, the (digital) pixels aren't square...!
    This DVR format is great, as it represents the actual full 'D1' signal resolution. It's also why we want at least 800x600 resolution in our goggles - to see things in *full SD glory*.
    About those racing / long range diversity modes: my wild guess would be that it adjusts the speed or sensitivity of the diversity switching algorithm (i.e. stay on one antenna longer before switching, while in long distance mode). But I am sure that Aomway will be able to enlighten us ;)
    Cheers

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      NTSC d1 is 704:480. 720X480 definitely looks stretched and incorrect in my opinion compared to 640 : 480 and ill be changing it in the editor every time for me. very close to a 16:9 res

    The tabs on the main shell of my Commander V1 set that hold the faceplate on broke off. It took a couple days for them to reply to my email, but they are sending me a new shell for just the cost of postage. I've had the goggles about 6 months. Not too bad at all. For reference I live in Southern California. Not sure how it will work in other parts of the world.

  • @BrassStacks
    @BrassStacks 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've really enjoyed my V1's that I got when they first came out last year. I'm starting to get unreadable files on my DVR footage though.
    The worst thing about the googles is the proprietary band and channel thing though. Having to figure out what I'm on compared to everyone else that's flying is a pain in ass.

    I had a problem with my first V!s and contacted Banggood, I just wanted the faulty component sent to me but they requested I send the whole goggle back to them and they would replace them with new ones, which they did and in due course received the new ones, I thought it was very good service, however it did cost me $50.00 for postage. I feel the new ones are way too expensive, however the wider FOV would be great.

    Excellent review as always, Andy. I have the V1s, so this is about the first time I was able to sort of "fact check" what you're saying - and you just seem so honest. That's becoming increasingly more important, because you're getting so much of this stuff for free - and people are easily bought. That doesn't seem to be the case with you! Gearbest has them on "Flash Sale" for $399 USD right now. I've been flying the Y1's for a year now and love them. My only complaint is the foam face plate. My greasy schnoz causes it to break down very quickly and I've needed to replace it numerous times. I bought another after market type but too much light leakage. That's my only complaint with Aomway!

    I love the technology built into this, the menu is is pretty damned good but some of the other buttons seems a bit fiddly and they seem to work quite well.
    But at that price and with no battery supplied....... ? Ouch!
    I'm so glad that (finally) my only goggle solution is one that involves one of the cheaper box types. :D

    I had a decent customer service experience with Aomway. My V1's diversity wasn't working to begin with. I sent them back to my local supplier in Australia who then sent them back to China for Aomway to assess. I figured that I wouldn't see them for months and I half expected Aomway to not honour the warranty, but they fixed them and it only took about 4 weeks all up. Not as great as having local repair, but better than expected.

    Did they improve the optics between the original release and the updated version? I have the original and I really like it, but it's really hard to get the optics right and there always seems to be a little more blur on the right than on the left.

    • @andygsp
      @andygsp 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have free same question. The optics are not really great on the v1, the edges are perpetually blurry and the corners (where you put things like battery voltage etc) are often unreadable.

    I emailed Aomway with an inquiry and they responded immediately. I had a DVR issue and used the same email but never heard from them. Fatshark on the other hand has a service center located in California and responded to every inquiry I had....

  • @Fliptality
    @Fliptality 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Fat Shark does not even cover the postage when it is an issue covered by warranty or a DOA like my HDO. And guess what? I have to send them to their UK service center from Germany every single time. The only good thing about FS is that you will get your goggles fixed. They are pretty slow and you have to spend a lot of money on postage. Ridiculous for a 500€+ product which does not even come with a receiver

    • @Fliptality
      @Fliptality 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      licensetodrive everybody knows that. does that make it a good deal? hell no dumbass. My HDO came DOA, the screens did not work at all.... had to pay shipping and wait for 4 weeks.

    • @Fliptality
      @Fliptality 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You do know that the cheapest receiver with AchilleS is actually on par with some of the premium receivers? I don't complain about the lack of receiver, I just mentioned it. Do I like the price? no. I still bought them and two earlier models hence I have a lot of "experience" with FatShark customer service. It is okay to charge postage if there are any problems with the googles within the years but if a brand new HDO, wich is on the market for a few weeks arrives DOA they shouldn't charge you for postage. Like with all the people that got the HDO withe the new shell and the new light leak "feature". they either send it in or do the repair on their own. The service is ok but not premium at all.

      licensetodrive 1st prize for most ridiculous statement ever goes to licensetodrive. His statement is perfectly valid - it raises the purchase price so should absolutely be factored in when they can’t be used without them. Also whats wrong with buying something and being unhappy with the price?

    • @pwsmanowar
      @pwsmanowar 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why would you warranty brand new DOA goggles? Even cheesy eBay sites have return policy's where you can exchange or return within a certain time period (usually a month). It doesn't make sense, unless you bought them off the back of a truck - or off a site based in China... which wouldn't make sense either.

    Just thought I'd jump in here. I just got my V2.1s (newest revision I guess) and I was a bit worried the FOV would be too big. I was coming from EV100s so I'm used to looking at a postage stamp which is still way better than the god awful box goggles. Anyway, I'm happy to report that after 10-15 flights I'm really liking the V2s. The FOV is not at all too big, it's perfect in fact. The only issue is that I can only seem to get about 85% of the screen sharp (blurry edges) at the corners. I'm pretty sure this has to do with the large FOV or maybe my 43 year old eyes are going to shite. If I squint or move the goggles slightly I can get a sharp picture at the edge but then other parts of the screen get bury. Ether way it's not a problem as you focus on the center of the screens 99% of the time.

    I love my V1's, they do everything I need for freestyle flying, massive upgrade from box goggs, one thing I hate is the IDP at full travel, wide as they go only just makes mine usable, I wish I could widen them so I don't have to adjust goggs so they let me see entire view, if I squint while flying I will lose half my view in one eye, my eyes really aren't that far apart, so many ppl must not be able to use them if eyes further apart than mine. Just a tad more adjustment is all they need. Good review thx. Sticking to these for now, V2 look way too much $$ and I hope I never need CA because they sound shocking.

    • @donwilson6384
      @donwilson6384 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brigzy FPV It’s weird, because the v2’s have more IPD adjustment, but they seem much more difficult to tune to your eyes. I’m all the way out at the end of both adjustments on the v1’s...but in totally different positions in the v2’s. I figured that extra little bit of adjustment, I’d be one more click out and it would be perfect. Not really the case. The huge fov changes everything. I like both...but the v1’s just still seem to be a little bit better to me. I didn’t need diopters in the v1’s, but had to use them with v2.

    Andy with the native field of view 16:9 bit you talk about, if the HDO's dont do it right is there going to be a fix they could put in place without us having to buy new goggles do you think? Just a thought 🤔 (You speak about it at 5 mins 40 secs ish) would they be able to fix this in a firmware update you think?

    The DVR is broken on my Aomway Commanders, I can't even get a response from Aomway, just crickets, there is no customer service as far as I can tell. I wanted to buy a replacement part and fix them myself, I can't even do that.

      MUNKY FPV , The DVR on my V1's died and it turned out my SD card was just full. Once I emptied it everything was fine.
      Now, months later I'm having issues with corrupted files on the SD cards and the footage it totally lost. It's starting to happen at least once every time I go out.

      yep scooter, I still use my eachine goggles and I have not had a problem. 130.00 dollars vs 500.00 ill buy two pair of the 130.00 dollar goggles before I spend 500 on one pair.

    My nightmare of an experience with Aomway (and yes I went through Sean). To be fair I did buy the set used. Once I received them I found that the DVR button was broken in a way that would allow the playback screen, but would not record. I went ahead and modified it so that it would record but I lost my playback function. What use is playback without record? After awhile I contacted Sean and requested a new main button board at $32 USD shipped. Even better yet they sent the v2 board which by all reports (from them) should be compatible with the rest of the v1 electronics. Essentially I would have a v2 with v1 optics. It took awhile, but the day came when they would finally arrive. That is where the easy part ends.
    After installing it the diversity did not want to work. I moved the cables and receivers around to eliminate those as the problem. Shortly after the DVR stopped functioning as well as the AV input. After explaining it to Sean, he requested that I send them to Aomway (another $23 USD) and they would troubleshoot for me. After 10 days tracking showed they arrived and Sean confirmed their arrival 4 days later. I then all was well for a week or two and when I inquired he would say he hadn't heard anything.
    Then nothing. 2 weeks of absolutely nothing. Finally, after pestering him several time daily for the last 3 days writing if he is tired of my emails to just answer me, he did. He told me his tech team was on vacation and would be back the following Monday. So not so patiently waiting as my patience was worn thin by then I waited some more. Finally, just over another week passed and they blamed it on me with ribbon cables causing damage. They had then told me they fixed the problem and my goggles are working. However there was one more hurdle to overcome. After all this time waiting for them to actually fix my goggles I now have to pay another $10 for return shipping. Grrr... Sigh... OK... Paid.
    Now these goggles was sent to them on May 30, 2018. They arrived June 9th. June 20th to July 3rd was the no response period. July 11th they said they fixed them. July 17th they told me the shipping fee. July 20th I paid said fee. They thanked me for the payment and told me they would give me the shipping info ASAP. Here we are Aug 3rd and no shipping info and no goggles...

      AndyRC thanks for replying. Are they twice as good though?? I don’t mind spending money if it’s worth it, but are they worth the money? That’s the question! Would be ok if u could go somewhere and try all the options. Here we just seem to spend our money on a bit of a gamble really.

      I was in the same position and comparing the aomway commander v1 and v2, what convinced me was the commander v1 are on sale at bangood for 285usd at the moment. I couldn't justify the extra 200 bucks for the v2s
      And if heard people say going from box goggles to the 32 degree for wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

    Andy, where can you take the AOMWAY to get it serviced locally. You cant that's the problem and that's why the fatshark's dominate the market. Customer Service is king!

    • @Fliptality
      @Fliptality 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      not quite true. the FS support once told me that there is only one support centre for Europe which is in the UK. The have one (or more?) in the US, one for AU/NZ the rest is China. As long as you live in China, US, UK and AUS everything will be fine, fast and cheap.

  • @neojeets
    @neojeets 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah this new Commander version should have been a "Pro" version or something to justify the increase in price. As for Fatshark customer service, I sent my HD3s in for LCD replacement recently and they came back with dust and dirt all inside the optics, so quality control wasn't so great for me. It looks terrible. Also, email communication with service was painfully slow.
