    My 10r140 had this same problem with the bushing in the CDF drum, 2022 F350.
    Was making a grinding noise and vibration on the 4-3 downshift. Did so from day one, 13 miles on the odometer.
    Sat at the dealership for 6 months because the sealing rings were on backorder.
    When I got it back, only made it 5 miles before the new bushing shifted again...
    Randy's Godzilla 10r is the only solution I have researched so far, they claim to "stake" the bushings to keep them from shifting.

    I used Motul VI transmission fluid and filter on my 10r80 and solved everything. Its not gonna repair any damage, just the cold morning jerks, from drive to reverse jerk and so on. 3-5 shift smoothed out, 2nd and 4th also shift better. Shifts are crisp and quick, when slowing down and punching the gas its always in the right gear, but before it seemed like it was searching.

    Thank you for your vedios. I wish your shop is near Seattle!
    My 2021 F150 transmission when up to working temperature, it will start having some whining noise during shifting, especially from 1 to 5 gears, above 5, the no noise or maybe unnoticeable. But within each gear, everything is good no noise. And each gear shift is very smooth if I don't push gas pedal. Downshift though, sometimes it has a bump from 4 to 3,but if I control the brake pedal, I can avoid it.
    do you know what to do to fix the noise? It is not loud, bbut annoying to me.
    Thanks again for your great vedios.

    • @BigBensCarsAndCycles
      @BigBensCarsAndCycles  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for watching, I'm glad the videos are helpful to you! Some whine is normal on those due to the offset pump drive gears. And firm shifts are pretty much normal too. Ford can run an accelerated break-in or clean the valve body which can help with random firm shifts. But they all get firm sometimes

    Im having issue with my 2021 f150 it’s got just over 65,000 miles just started 3 days ago. Truck suddenly shifts a bit hard into drive after driving it for a while and it had a slight harsh/bump feeling when shifting from 4th to 5th and only in light accelerations,(almost every time when trans hot) mid to high acceleration shifts perfectly into every gear. Don’t have any issues when cold. I tried clearing the trans adaptive tables and no luck (does down shift smoother after) could this CDF from be the issue? If not should I be worried about it? No one else feels the shifting concerns but me
    Forgot to mention I did do a trans service (fluid change and filter) at 60k miles (1st one) should I be doing services sooner maybe 30k?
    I do have a extended aftermarket warranty but I’ve always done my own services and repairs

  • @duck9191

    I hate this trans. My 2017 never shifted right, bangs into drive, 1-3 and 3-5 shifts cold feel like you get rear ended. Starting to shudder and slip now, everything getting progressively worse. All the dealer ever did was a adaptive shift re-learn (which I have been doing monthly to try and make it liveable) or tell me "you don't know how to drive it right". Well it's out of warranty and now my $10k problem if I want it to work. Fords not getting a dime, Suncoast trans and torque converter. Who needs to do warranty work when you have months of retail work I guess.

    I do have a question. My 2019 f150 had to have a transmission rebuilt under warranty. But before they rebuilt it they tried to reprogram it and I was driving 70 mph and it shifted from 10th gear to 1st. And just messed a lot of the transmission up. But anyways after they rebuilt it. Sometimes it still shifts hard and jerky

    • @BigBensCarsAndCycles
      @BigBensCarsAndCycles  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Shifting from 10 to 1 may have been a cdf bushing fault. Your remaining jerky shifts are likely characteristic, but if it doesn't feel right to you, you can have them clean the valve body and install new gaskets under warranty (if you still are)

    Dang, I wish I cudda seen ya Pull that outta the Truck...🤔. I get that it's a Warranty Repair Big Ben, but why aren't the Clutches, and some other known Defective Parts just replaced while the Trans is Out of the TRUCK? (Or a New Updated CompleteTransmission) That's a Ton of work to just replace a Few things. It just seems as tho this Issue is just gonna keep coming back??? Isn't it. And sooner or Later, the Customer is going to get Stuck with a Hugh Repair Bill down the road. I here tell this Tranny can be 4/8K when Replaced. It looks like a Lot of Defective Part's are just being replaced, and all the rest is just Re Installed?

    • @BigBensCarsAndCycles
      @BigBensCarsAndCycles  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Hey..the clutches are in good shape, and the only common internal issue is the cdf drum on trucks older than 2022. The drum I'm putting in is redesigned and they shouldn't have an issue again out of this transmission for a long time. My hands are tied with warranty work. Especially this one. This is a technical service bulletin. I have to follow ford's instructions to a T, or they will refuse to pay. Then I will get charged for it. If it were up to me, yeah a fresh new transmission would be nice for them. Or a complete rebuild. But Ford doesn't want to pay for all that. Just the bare minimum. Thanks again for watching. This is a remake of my previous teardown video. That video was sideways lol.

      @@BigBensCarsAndCycles, I have a 2018 F150 with this transmission and it made it to 87,000 miles and now it has failed. It started out having trouble shifting from 1st gear to the next gear and after a few weeks it got really bad. Now it jumps from 1st to 4th and then to 8th and then back to 4th and then it stalls and has no power. I need your advice about what to do. I don’t trust a fix or rebuild because I am afraid I will just have more problems down the road. I am not sure if I have a new transmission put in if it will be with upgraded parts or an old, new stock transmission. So, that concerns me because if it is just a new transmission and it is just like the one I have now, it will eventually do the same thing. My big question is, if I trade it in and get a new F150, which year has the new upgraded parts that will prevent this from happening again? The 2022, the 2023, or the 2024? What would you do? The dealerships are backed up 2 to 4 months on repairs-rebuilds and I really don’t like that option anyway. Also, there are no independent shops near me that rebuild this transmission. If I get a new transmission, that will still take a month or so to get put in and it may be new, old stock, so I am leaning towards just trading it in on a brand new truck, but I need to know which year has the redesign to stop that bushing from moving in that drum and destroying the transmission. Thank You, for your time and advice!!!

    • @BigBensCarsAndCycles
      @BigBensCarsAndCycles  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @stonecoldflipper9503 I believe late 2022s have the updated drum. So a 23 would be safe. If you decide to let a dealer fix it, this is a common problem and they're knowledgeable about fixing it. And there's not really any other common issues with these other than firm shifts which aren't a big deal - they'll all do it

    • @BigBensCarsAndCycles
      @BigBensCarsAndCycles  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      The cdf bushing moves and blocks fluid pressure ports, leading to slip. It's mainly on larger vehicles like an f150 or Expedition. Fluid changes won't help, only replacing the drum with the updated design, which is a permanent fix. But, if I owned one I'd service it every 30k and install an aftermarket metal pan with a drain plug

      @@BigBensCarsAndCycles, does the new CDF drum just have better parts or does it also have the lip on it to hold that bushing in place and prevent it from moving and causing the same damage all over again. I have read on other videos where people said when this first started happening that when the transmission was rebuilt all they did was push the existing bushing back into the proper position and put in a new set of seals. That would get you going again, but down the road it would fail again. Then I read that some independent specialty shops started fixing the problem by adding a lip to hold the bushing in place permanently. I just want to make sure Ford is doing the same thing now because my 2018 F150 transmission has failed and I can’t wait several months to have it rebuilt or replaced with a new one, so I have decided to trade mine in on a new 2023 model and hope and pray the 2023 has better parts and that lip. I love my Ford truck and really like everything about it, but that doesn’t mean anything if the transmission or engine has a catastrophic failure before 100,000 miles. If a water pump or an alternator goes out before 100,000 miles, I can live with that, but not an engine or transmission. I have never bought an extended warranty, but I think I will this time because of all the problems people are having. The only problem with that is my truck was out of warranty when my transmission broke, but even if it was under a warranty all the dealers were saying that they were behind 2 to 4 months on rebuilding these transmissions and most of the time the customer had to get a rental and continue to pay their monthly truck payment as well. I am lucky I had a backup vehicle and that bought me some time and allowed me some time to decide what to do. Thank You so much for your help!!!
